There isnt any real details about this yet.
But maybe its part of the deal with Qatar Bank, that Kimi needs to join them?

15 million for Kimi in his current state? That's insane.
probably would have boiled down to only 15 million sponsoring if they didn't get kimi so i don't think his pay is much of a deal for williams in that sense

Doubtful. I don't see a big comeback from him, especially not in a Williams. He can be lucky that Ruben's time is over, otherwise I don't see which team could've offered him a seat. Again, we're talking about 15 million here. That's Ferrari salary.

e: In 2010 he got €16 million from Ferrari. That's €2M more than Massa got in the same year.

In 2010 he wasn't even driving and he got that kind of money, which when you think about it was pretty insane, as he was earning more by not driving than 90% of the active drivers. IIRC, he was being paid 40 million a year while active. I think his contract stated that he is to be payed 10 million if ended early, plus another 5 or so million if he doesn't get a drive anywhere else in F1 for that year.

The Robertson's are very shrewd managers, he'd wouldn't have even half of his fortune without them.

Just watching the highlights of Germany 2007 where Hamilton gets a lift from a marshal's crane back onto the track. Properly mental. :D

Hamilton goes to RBR, Koba to McLaren and Webber to Sauber? Perfect.

lol, kobayashi is a shit driver and next season will be his last in f1.

Can that Qatar deal help Williams get rid of Maldonado?

if the deal goes through - slasher and raikkonen at williams in 2012 is my prediction.

Koba has been so disappointing for the 2nd half of this season. Perez has been aweome this year.

Don't care about Kimi except for the awkward interviews. He will do nothing exciting at Williams if the car is still crap.

What do you know about F1 drivers anyway? You can't even read the FAQ.

i know that kobayashi is no better than takuma sato. where did the love stem from?

Flavio Briatore admits he was wrong about Jenson Button after admitting he didn't realise how good the McLaren driver is.

Briatore was Button's team boss when the Briton raced for Benetton and then Renault in 2001 and 2002, but dropped him after two years – declaring at the time that the youngster was a 'lazy playboy'.

Since then however, an ever-maturing Button has gone on to take his maiden F1 title and has shown team-mate Lewis Hamilton the way this season in what has been an impressive second season with McLaren – all of which has led to Briatore re-evaluating his view.

“I was quite wrong about the English driver,” he was quoted by The Mirror. “He has been the surprise this year. I would never have guessed he was so good.”

Team-mate Hamilton however fared less well in Briatore's assessment of recent events following another clash on track with Felipe Massa.

“They make me laugh,” he said. “They are like Laurel and Hardy.”

This.

Kobayashi and Perez both had great starts this season, but lack of development now has Sauber fighting for its place in the constructors championship where they had built a nice lead. Koba has been very low key this second half of the season.

Exactly, it's been a common pattern for Sauber since they began.

Aggressive driving without causing too many accidents and good overtaking. It's fun to watch him drive.

Cause of his crazy overtakes!
And the fact that the laws of physics do not apply to him

Just a shame he doesn't have a good car to drive :( Going to suck to see him never get a chance at a big team (if that happens).

Name changes for next season:

Team Lotus --> Caterham
Renault --> Lotus
Virgin --> Marussia

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/95874

I wonder what came out of this.

One of the main discussion points at the meeting, however, is the future of technical collaboration between teams - such as that enjoyed between McLaren and the Force India and Virgin Racing teams.

Their collaboration has led to fears that they could be stretching the limits of the Concorde Agreement, which demands that each team designs and manufactures its own car.

...

The discussion about technical collaboration will also likely include talks about the possibility of third cars in F1 – a subject that divides opinion in the paddock.

Other things up for discussion:
- Q3 tyre strategy
- Using helium in wheel guns will be banned, slowing gun speeds by 30%
- Calendar issues:
-Bahrain move to November 25 suggested
-Korea $100m losses
-Valencia and Barcelona alternate each year suggested
-Austin GP already in debt and in a legal battle over the $25m state money
-Third cars
-Intelectual property
-RRA
-Increase team operational staff from 45 to 55 at each race

They really do need to look at the qualifying tire issue. No reason cars should just be sitting in the paddock in Q3.

And I have a better date in mind for Bahrain...
NEVER

I thought Williams got a deal with Renault?

They do, my mistake. I guess this means that Williams have to design a gearbox which will work with both Cosworth and Renault engines.
