They do, my mistake. I guess this means that Williams have to design a gearbox which will work with both Cosworth and Renault engines.

or just sell the cosworth 2011 gearbox to hispania.

True, hadn't thought of that.

One for the Americans, Rossi will drive for Lotus in the young driver test at Abu Dhabi at the end of the season.

YAY :D He's racing for Caterham in GP2 at Abu Dhabi as well.

I have a hunch that he'll have a better shot than the other drivers, given where F1 is heading.

Possibly, but Rossi also has talent; he's not just going to be a pay driver or some token American in F1. He's run very well in Formula Renault (third place this past season with two wins and six podiums; it was also his rookie season) and he's been running all the series he should be running to keep moving up the ladder. I'd expect he will run a full GP2 schedule next year for Caterham and will be a tester for Lotus on some weekends.

As long as he doesn't start praising the lord and going on about his prayer's the night before then all is well.

Fully aware that I sound like a complete dick saying that, but it's the one thing that annoys me so much when I watch NASCAR. And I'm not even Atheist.

Is there currently any talent in F1, that we got from those young driver tests?

I found a list at F1Technical, but I don't know how accurate it is.

Drivers announced for 2011:

Red Bull-Renault: Jean Eric Vergne
McLaren-Mercedes: TBA (I think it will be Oliver Turvey or Lewis Williamson here)
Scuderia Ferrari: TBA (I think it will be Jules Bianchi)
Mercedes GP: TBA (I think it will be taken care of by Sam Bird)
Lotus Renault: Romain Grosjean & Kevin Korjus
Williams-Cosworth: Valtteri Bottas & Mirko Bortolotti (However a day could be put by if Kimi Raikkonen signs for 2012)
Force India-Mercedes: TBA
Sauber-Ferrari: Esteban Gutierrez & Fabio Leimer
STR-Ferrari: Stefano Coletti (Im thinking there could be one more driver in the STR6 here)
Team Lotus-Renault: Alex Rossi (im also thinking that Luiz Razia and David Valshecci will share a day)
Hispania-Cosworth: TBA
Virgin-Cosworth: Robert Wickens & Adrian Quaife-Hobbs

Daniel Ricciardo topped the test last year.

Not really definite proof of talent, but it gets a drivers foot in the door and gives them a chance to impress their team. Overall times from the test will be inconclusive as they will all run differing test programs.

Also I'd imagine Gary Paffet will do MRL's test rather than who is suggested in the list you found.

More Kimi to Williams news from speed TV

http://formula-one.speedtv.com/article/f1-williams-to-announce-kimi-raikkonen-deal/

Williams is almost ready to announce Kimi Raikkonen's return to Formula One for 2012, according to media reports.

"(The) Raikkonen (agreement) is almost there," a source inside the famous British team is quoted by FAZ newspaper.

Italy's Autosprint reports that the funding is coming from Qatar.

Williams on Wednesday hinted at the deal by revealing that a memorandum of understanding with Mowasalat, a Qatari company, was signed in Doha for the use of the team's simulator technology.

"The funding for the 'Iceman' is coming from the heat of Qatar," said the Italian magazine.

The Finnish broadcaster MTV3 said the sponsorship of a Qatar bank is the next step.

That will validate a contract that Raikkonen, 32, reportedly signed recently "and the announcement will be made in Abu Dhabi" next weekend.

The Swiss publication Motorsport Aktuell said the 2007 world champion is Williams' "first choice" to be Pastor Maldonado's new teammate.

"He (Raikkonen) has been at Grove several times for talks," the report added.

Thanks for mentioning Stewart GP.

I read the wiki entry and I didn't know they were that successful in their last year. Coming in as 4th in the constructors championship is quite impressive, imo.

And thanks to that Wiki, I got to read some other fun facts.

Things I didn't know:
- Cosworth is one of the oldest engine supplier in F1 and with 176 wins, the second most successful engine manufacturer after Ferrari (of course)
- F1 cars had 4WD in the 60s
- Rory Bryne is 67 years old and was born in South Africa

155 of which were with one engine (DFV), over a period of 17 years.

Funny to think that Stewart GP went on to become Red Bull. Always forget that.
Not that hard to forget, because they became Jaguar Racing first and then RBR. Man, Jaguar Racing, later lead by Lauda. What a disappointment that was, after the great season Stewart had in 1999.

You never know; Ferrari were written off for around 20 years, then came their renaissance.

It's quite the spectacle really.

It's been twelve years since McLaren won the WCC and they've only won two WDC's in that time too.

At least they're the almost-best team in F1 and they didn't suck that much in those years like Ferrari did back then.

Speaking of defunct teams, there was always something about Prost GP that I quite fancied. Maybe it was the sumptuous livery or the car designs; they just had something about them. It's a shame they failed, but not every F1 great is destined to be successful team boss.

How many great F1 drivers were great team leaders after their career?

Hope the list is accurate. I would love a Canadian back on the grid, I have missed cheering for a fellow countryman.

Wickens will be driving for Virgin in practice next week. He also gets to test for Renault since he won the FR 3.5 title.

I was watching the Australian Grand Prix on youtube (part of it) from the 90s I think, and the announcer was absolutely jizzing himself over the color.

I don't blame him.
I was too.

This post almost had an offensive stereotype against the French in it.
