What are the starts from the Maccas like?

As long as they don't bog down, they're starts are fairly decent.

All eyes on Alonso tomorrow though, the Ferrari's usually have great starts.

First time Vettel not on front row, with Webber on pole. Even if he comes into the first corner second, at least he has the balls to take it to Hammy without being amateurish.

Fucking excited.

I think that Mclaren messed up once again with Button tyres, he was probably on used ones for the last attempt

Bwahaha, Vettel's face. :lol He's so disappointed.
Vettel looks down. Big pressure on him to deliver in front of his home crowd.
Should be a great start to race tomorrow unless it pissing down and SC start.

It's a great track for Vettel to be humiliated at.

He'll still probably finish on the front row tomorrow anyway.

I think the cooler temps harmed the Ferrari's pace.
They used to struggle to get heat into the tyres but it could be better in the race if they are easier on them.

A very exciting qualifying, the MP-26 is a confusing car at times how is Jenson a second down from Lewis anyway interesting all round

Great lap from Hamilton to split the Red Bulls, didn't really look like he had the pace get up there but should make for an interesting start. I just hope Webber doesn't stuff the start tomorrow.

Man, Felipe is really a happy fellow.

Vettel doesn't need to win anymore. Collecting points from the second, third or fourth place is enough for him, I suppose.

Jenson looked like he was about to cry there. It felt a little like he was suggesting that Lewis has a bit more backing than him.

I think that was Lewis's settlement with McLaren, make me you No.1, McLaren can't afford to lose Hamilton, there is no one to take over from him. They could easily lose Button and get someone like Koba as second driver.

McLaren have never been able to support both drivers and win a championship...

I reckon Vettel's feeling the pressure on this one, he's all about ticking the boxes and his home GP is the next big one for him.

Alonso along side Vettel :) Amazing lap by Hamilton. Hope Alonso gets a jump on Vettel and keeps him behind at the start.

Omg so exciting the potential battles that could manifest from this tomorrow... ugh so awesome

I really want the trio of Lewis, Mark and Alonso to just rain on Vettel's parade

More like Hamilton takes out Webber & Vettel cruises to victory.
Most likely, if anything.

Webber has 2 poles in a row. If he can get a few more and start converting them (and getting team strat preference, theoretically) then who's to say? Hopeful, but not unrealistically so I don't think.

But if he‘s battling in third or fourth, then there‘s a chance that he might be involved in an incident. A DNF here or there and suddenly the pressure‘s on.

I was thinking that as well. He's older and replaceable. McLaren won't find anyone better than Lewis. I wonder if they involved Jenson in that discussion...

Webber on the come back. Hamilton is flattering his material.

Is there expected any rain for tomorrow's race? Hamilton was pretty dominant in Silverstone before the track dried up.

The Vettel and Alonso fight will be awesome.

On that note of Button driving for McLaren, does he have a contract for next season? If he doesn't I think McLaren will let him walk and go for Koba (or Di Resta if they want to go British) instead as a defined No.2 driver.

Hamilton to speed up the inside of the first corner to claim first place. Vettel and all the other Germans to crash out! :D

It'll be like the Battle of Britain all over again.

The 'Magic Alonso' feature looks hilarious.

Oh look, yet another oscar worthy short movie at the end of qualy. Awesome BBC is awesome.

McLaren have the option to retain him for next year. I think they would expect him to sign on after that as well. He's not going to find a better drive.

the lead vettel build when the track was wet, was more impressive.

but yes the start will be exciting tomorrow.

mclaren to chew its tyres up like valencia and silverstone, they better hope for rain tomorrow because the race pace of ferrari and redbull will be superior if the long runs are to go by.

Yes, I don't think Button will find a better drive than No.2 at McLaren, but as to whether he will take a No.2 drive is questionable. He may opt for a smaller team and No.1 driver.

I don't think that will happen on this track going by the track itself and Pirelli's 'upgraded' version of the tyres, but who knows.

Edit:

I think people blow this whole no1 thing out of proportion in regards to Mclaren. Mclaren are one of the few teams I feel are capable of making the even and 'let them race' system work, they have come close to winning both championships in the past ...just that they made silly mistakes along the way. I don't think Lewis needs to be declared as No.1 he just needs to feel supported, give him back hi engineer if that's what it takes and have Ron in now and again *shrug* who knows.

Best scenario for tomorrow - Vettel and Alonso crash in the first corner :)
I reckon we'll see Hamilton take Webber at the first corner and Alonso take Vettel sometime just after the start. Beyond that it'll come down to how well DRS works. I don't think pitstop strategy will have much of an effect.

I actually hope it doesn't rain, it's perfectly set up for a close race as it stands.

I think rain or shine it will be entertaining which is what we need so I don't mind I just like that we (seemingly) have a three way fight :)

They come close to winning championships while supporting two drivers but they win championships when they have a defined first driver, second driver structure. If Jenson is happy being second driver at McLaren then that's fine, but it is becoming more and more clear that Jenson just isn't in the same league as Alonso/Hamilton/Vettel/Webber and by having the 'let them race' attitude it is clear McLaren are harming Hamilton's chances of winning the championship.

Even McLaren would rather have 1st and 4th every race than 2nd and 3rd and win the drivers championship under the first scenario than a few podiums and one or two race wins a season with second scenario.

When has it hurt them this season? There have been very few occasions when they are next to each other.

Lewis in Montreal. The vast major of the time it doesn't though.
Montreal was a mess for a lot of reasons. I don't think blatant in team orders would have guaranteed that collision didn't happen. But yeah, other than that, any in team orders would not really have changed very much so far this season.

Well on the face of it you don't really know, but how fast can Hamilton go if he got 60-70% of resources like Alonso does at Ferrari? There is a big gap between Massa and Alonso, but we know Alonso brings about 0.2s to his team yet he is 0.5-0.6s faster in qualifying.

The first qualifying of the season where Button sounds unhappy about McLaren seeming to favour Hamilton and there is a huge gap...

There's been a huge gap on plenty of other occasions. I don't get where you think we KNOW how much Alonso brings and how many internal resources he gets.

I still maintain that they can more than make the system work, especially with the level of respect that their drivers seem to show each other. It is just a few tweaks here and there that they are missing. People can argue about the past all they like but truth is Mclaren has learned and is continuing to from it, and i'm sure at some point it will slot in nicely for them. If the benefits to the no1 driver was absolute then they'd be running that system, but imo it just isn't a necessary structure for them to win either and/or both championships. I think people get way too critical when things go bad myself included. I think though if there's one thing that they shouldn't really be berated for it is their approach to equality (though again they probably need to tweak it a bit). Even small things like Coulthard mentioned of never making a driver's engineer request for him to move over like Ferrari with Massa, I think is quite a nice touch.
