I dreamed about F1 last night. I don't think that's ever happened before.

Can't really remember much about it, but one minute I was watching qualifying at someone's house, next minute I was there watching a tussle between the Red Bulls and the Lotus cars.

No, that doesn't make any sense. ;)

I had a dream that I was at some port city, I flew a plane over a boat that was being raided by mega pirates, I jumped out, wiped out half of the boat, got captured, flew off the boat and then tried to run back to the respawn point but my friend beat me there.

Yeah, pretty fucking random.

Casey's surpassed Vale as the fastest man in MotoGP. He did wonders at Ducati riding the Desmosedici's. Only the other two 'aliens' (Lorenzo and Pedrosa) can match right him now and maybe Ben Spies as he continues to progress.

It's awful seeing Rossi struggle on that shitty Duke :(

In my dream world we'd have Rossi, Lorenzo and Stoner on that beast of a Honda.

Ped and Dovi are there just to make up the numbers.

Ha, over the past couple of weeks I've had a few dreams about F1. Yesterday I dreamt I was watching the race as a marshall and Vettel crashed his car. He got out and Horner was also their, I asked Vettel something and he gave me his gloves and shoes as a souvenir and thats when I woke up. About a few days ago I had one where Alonso and Schumacer were battling it out for 1st and 2nd before I woke up.

Don't worry... I'm renting, so the landlord would have to pay for it ;)

I watched today's MotoGP race, what an ending! There's a thrill that a lot of motorsport races miss, and it can only be found in MotoGP!
Yeah, even though MotoGP's going through a rough patch in terms of entertainment, the best races still produce the thrills.

Also, welcome to memberhood. :)

Tweeted this on the train to work this morning:
@AussieGrit Loved hearing our anthem at the end of the MotoGP yesterday. Can't wait to hear it again at Singapore this weekend. Good luck :)
If he wins, I'll tweet him the week before every race until he beats Vettel to the WDC.

Yeah, I actually read the article after my post and it's more Newey that said it (I think, I used my 10 min quota and can't read the page again before using another non-work related time block).

It's all Newey. There's no quote from Vettel at all.

Moreso, those quotes don't hint at anything being boring etc. He admires Vettel for being so gutsy and thinks he is proving his critics wrong. Saying he wants to win his championship style isn't admitting Vettel has made the sport boring because which driver wouldn't? He doesn't want to just phone it in for the rest of the season, he wants to make a mark and will continue to fight.

Ark completely misinterpreted that article if he got "Vettel: I've made the sport boring." from it.

Some food for thought.

McLaren have only won one constructors title and two driver titles in the space of 20 years. In comparison Ferrari have won 8 constructor titles and 6 driver titles. Williams have five constructors titles and 4 driver titles. Renault have two each and Red Bull will have two each soon. Brackley have one constructor title and one drivers title under the guise of Brawn GP.

This means McLaren are the second worst of the the established teams and considering the amount of money they spend, it's not a particularly good return.

1992 Honda Marlboro McLaren 2nd (99 pts)
1993 Marlboro McLaren 2nd (84 pts)
1994 Marlboro McLaren Peugeot 4th (42 pts)
1995 Marlboro McLaren Mercedes 4th (30 pts)
1996 Marlboro McLaren Mercedes 4th (49 pts)
1997 West McLaren Mercedes 4th (63 pts)
1998 West McLaren Mercedes Champion (156 pts)
1999 West McLaren Mercedes 2nd (124 pts)
2000 West McLaren Mercedes 2nd (152 pts)
2001 West McLaren Mercedes 2nd (102 pts)
2002 West McLaren Mercedes 3rd (65 pts)
2003 West McLaren Mercedes 3rd (142 pts)
2004 West McLaren Mercedes 5th (69 pts)
2005 West McLaren Mercedes 2nd (182 pts)
2006 Team McLaren Mercedes 3rd (110 pts)
2007 Vodafone McLaren Mercedes DQ
2008 Vodafone McLaren Mercedes 2nd (151 pts)
2009 Vodafone McLaren Mercedes3rd (71 pts)
2010 Vodafone McLaren Mercedes 2nd (454 pts)
2011 Vodafone McLaren Mercedes 2nd (Pretty much a foregone conclusion)

I think it's a mistake to judge Mclaren on just their results of the last 20 years considering they have 55 years of history in the sport, with a total of 12 Driver World Championship wins and 8 Constructors Championships over that time. It'd be similar to dismissing Ferrari as a wannabe for their dry spell from 1980-2000 (Just 1 Drivers Championship in that timeframe).

It's also a bit disingenious to call them "second worst of the established teams" considering that really, there's only 4 teams most would consider "established" in the sport, Ferrari, Williams Renault and Mclaren. The other teams on the grid may have been born from the ashes of previous teams, or worse, just new teams using old names but they can hardly count themselves as established in the sport IMO.

They'll have success again and I think will certainly be around long enough to weather a dry spell, Williams on the other hand, now there's an established team I fear we could lose from the sport sooner rather than later. :(

Over those 20 years, I think the difference has been their championship rivals have all enjoyed some degree of domination while McLaren never really has. That's how those Constructors Titles really rack up. Whether it's Newey, or Schuey, or Bridgestone, or double diffusers, or whatever, they never had that x-factor which enabled them to cake walk it even when they were winning races and championships.

I think it's also fair to say that at times they've not made the most of their opportunities too.

Considering I posted that 5 minutes before I went to sleep, I'm really not bothered.

You're right. That's why I'll always remember McLaren as the almost-best team in F1.

Man, do you remember when they almost-won that race earlier in the year...

That was almost-amazing.

They did have Newey for quite a while.

you never saw Mika Häkkainen's WDCs? when they had THE most dominant car on the grid.

To be honest, that's not the best response in admitting to a mistake, but whatever. It does unfairly judge a driver for those who don't have time to click the link. I would do just a quick edit now so anyone else doesn't get the wrong impression - job done.

i thought second place in the constructors championship is a lot of money as well.

But yes mclaren has had a dry spell in the last decade, i think with the help of button and hamilton they can turn it around if they have a better car next year.

We've got 10 confirmed members at the moment, you can still get it after it's release but you have to make it to the qualifications!

Of course they can turn it around, if those two stop stealing points from each other.
