I *love* how secretive some teams are of their cars. Reminds me of the old days of the Americas Cup.

Possibly the only sport that is as secretive and spends if not more than F1. I was in Auckland, NZ during the America's Cup and holy crap they would only bring their boats out at night so no one could see the hull shapes etc

Just thought I would bump this to let people know the Bathurst 1000 V8 Supercar race is on this weekend, Speed will be showing the race live on Saturday night in the US. 620 miles of racing around one of the greatest tracks on the world, in archaic V8 beasts.

Speed TV Website coverage

I know not many will care, but I thought it was cool it was going to be live in HD in the US so people can see what the noise is about :) Also a great chance to enjoy one of the worlds best tracks.

The Mclarens look mighty quick in the first sector, somewhere I expected RBR to dominate. Could we see a Mclaren on pole? Although this is only practice.

Definitely some sandbagging. Even so, 8 tenths faster than Vettel. I made changes to all of my components on race manager but the engine.

It's gonna be awesome. Even if DW is commentating.

Im awake! Its 6am - so don't let me down Button!

6 AM here as well and I just randomly woke up 10 minutes ago without an alarm clock; I guess my brain wanted to see this as well ;P

Hm...can only find streams in Japanese though.

Indeed. Somehow I see Vettel spoiling the party, but I really hope Button snatches pole.

If he does, I think he can win tomorrow. Vettel has basically won most of his races by buggering off at the start of the race so if Button can get in front, and keep ahead while his McLaren gets up to speed (As we have all seen he gets quicker the longer the races go on), then we'll have a race on our hands.

Anyway, goodbye tp the usual 3 teams and who this time? I'm honestly unsure this time.

DW is great in small doses. Dont have to hear from him until the duels next year after his.

Got a growler of beer ready to go for Bathurst and then the F1 race.

Vettels went back to the old wing. Pay attention after spoon corner on the straight and through 131R too his front wing. It is dragging on the floor. I've never seen it so low. and when he brakes hard for the before last corner, the front raises tremendously. I understand aerodynamic load reduces with your speed in step but that is ridiculous. Compare it with the McLaren.

Kobayashi uses the soft tyres to go pole in Q1, as DC says, the Japanese crowd will go mad, heh.

Well, Rosberg is the one gone, so basically all the cars using soft tyres didn't need to because the new 3 teams were doomed and now the Mercedes is out in Q1 too.

I notice all the commentators and Ted seem to be almost whispering. I wonder if that's deliberate given most of us are sitting here in a zombie like state at 6am on a Saturday.

Finally some more cars on the track, guess everyone isnt saving tires for the race (anyone else think they could use more/different tires for qualifying?)

Well, Kobayashi gets into the top 10, the crowd goes...well, mild, haha.

The Force Indias just miss out on Q3 and the Renault team finally find form with Petrov 8th and Senna 9th.

Well, after that little interview with Rosberg I can't help but think he's not in a total disaster zone. He has a full set of new tyres to play with tomorrow and as long as he gets an ok start could find himself out-lasting the other cars on the tyres and getting some points.

I think red bull have left some sandbags stuck in the sidepods!
Well, if the BBC team are correct the teams are all using old tyres for their initial run. If that is correct then one of the teams could chuck new soft tyres on and steal pole position. Will anyone actually do this? It's not looking that way.

Edit: Yey, they're going out on new tyres.
