Humphrey to leave the BBC for BT to present their Premier League football coverage.

Jake to BT, DC to Sky, and the BBC pulling the plug on their F1 coverage will happen.

:( Source?
He should talk to Adrian Chiles about what moving channels for football coverage does to your career.

WOW, BT really paying out big bucks for their sports coverage in the UK. Hope it works out for them or else they'll end up as another Setanta Sports.

BT have the rest of the company to leverage against any losses they might (will) take on it.

I know that there was much surprise that BT got the contract within the broadcasting industry though.

Hello F1GAF. A little off topic but I just thought I'd share I'm off to Silverstone today for the first time to attend a Ferrari Racing Day. Over 1000 Ferrari's are registered to attend and that does include some F1 cars which will be going around the track.

I have never been to Silverstone and I've never heard a F1 car in person before. I hear they are loud. I will try and get some pictures!

Felipe Massa was there! He was flown In by helicopter and when people realized who it was he was quickly surrounded. There was no chance of me getting a actual picture with him, his body guards were ruthless. But I fought my way through and got some good pics of him! I will upload when I get home.

Also, dem F1 cars. Man they were loud. I got down to the pits and the back of the garages. I watched them start the cars, the starter they used was loud enough but when the car fired up, man it was loud. I was no more than 15-20 foot away.

Awesome that you got to see & hear those cars :)

The only time I've ever seen & heard an F1 car was in London many years ago when a bunch of F1 teams did a promo thing driving down a few streets in London, I only really saw the top of the cars because it was so crowded, but they sounded damned amazing.

Very nice, cheers! It's interesting how most of the cars vary in wing choice and even engine size from the sound of it.
No problemo. I figured it's one thing to watch the summaries of those years in a 30 min clip or see them in a documentary, but to have the whole thing recorded (with original commentary) it's quite unique. There may be others, but that was the only one I've ever accidentally come across.

So great to see some massive-name drivers like Rindt and Hill and watch them for an *entire race*. Feels unique and very different, yet not dissimilar to what we have now.

I think I like that the teams still came across as almost being one-man operations (figuratively speaking, obviously) with no real futuristic technology or aero or regulations or commercialisation short of an ad here or there. It's kinda wonderful :)

One of the "one-man" is Frank Williams who fielded Piers Courage's Brabham (P2 on the grid). That gives you idea how long he's been around, and how much he loves his racing.

My sister got her photo taken. Will get them up when I arrive in SG.

Edit: At the gate. Tons of Pirelli and Mercedes guys around!

Kubica had a massive crash rallying today. Car is a complete write off but he got out unharmed.

I'll upload my videos when I can of them firing one up! Incredibly loud, but for the moment here are a few snaps I got!

The Wing. I went inside it too, very smart inside. They had a Ferrari show room and other stuff.

I didn't even dare ask how much these life size replica F1 steering wheels cost. I got a brouchure and the prices are not in there. But they were all made of the exact materials the real ones are and all the dials and switches operated. So cool.

At the end of the day I took my chances and walked under the shutter and into the pits! I just had to lol. I got snap happy and a Ferrari mechanic soon asked me to leave :lol But at least I can say I have stood in the garage! There was 6 of those FXX's if I remember right.

The classic cars were beautiful. Simply stunning on the whole.

To get theses pics I had to literally push my way through a scrum! Loads of people everywhere and his bodyguards were doing their best to keep people back! I got snap happy and these are what I got.

Nice seat.

Thanks for the photos by the way.

I noticed that too! The rest of the car was immaculate and that seat kind of let it down a bit. :/

Some of the other classic cars though we're perfect, all the leather inside too. There was a Ferrari 166 which was awesome.

the reasons jake has for leaving F1, IF he leaves, are perfectly sound, his missus is up the duff, all that travelling is not suitable for a first time father, he doesnt really have much choice

Agree, he seems to be very driven too. He wants to be lead sports broadcaster and he can't do that when Leineker is at BBC.

The Perez to McLaren speculation is moving into the realm of rumors and inside sources. that was rather quick. Exciting.

I highly suspect it's just some gamesmanship on behalf of McLaren. Perez may well be an eventual target for them, but anything that gets 'leaked' while the negotiations are at this stage can't really be taken at face value.

I've read on some other forums that the 'Perez to McLaren' odds have been slashed after numerous bets were placed in and around Woking.

Whether that is true or not, I don't know.

Also, dem F1 cars. Man they were loud.
If you can, try attending an HTCC Historic Superprix and listening to the F5000s race. Stupendously loud and my favourite noise.

I bet the driver seat is sitting somewhere in the owner's garage. Too expensive to ruin with all the racing he probably does.

So F1 on BBC is pretty much over then.

Jake's reasons for leaving don't seem to have anything to do with F1, so I don't think it can be seen as a signal of the BBC losing interest in it, nor do I think they will take yet another early exit from their commitments because a presenter has moved on.

Jake's departure may lead to EJ and DC moving on, in which case I think it puts their coverage in a slightly more precarious position, but only if they can't secure suitable replacements.

Damn, I think I'll miss seeing him from F1 (regardless of channel). Best of luck to him, though... it's not exactly like it's for any nefarious reasons.

That sucks, he was good. Lee mckenzie would be a fine replacement. Scared about what it could mean for dc/ej and bbcf1 in general.

Rain forecast for the weekend? Race might actually be red flagged because of the glare from the lights no?

It depends on the amount of spray lifted by the tyres. If it's slight rain it shouldn't be a problem.

Rain would probably result in an epic race where only 7 cars reach the end.

Unusual to have rain late at night in Singapore this time of year. It usually rains at exactly the same time every day.
