I´m judging more by the fears uttered from other teams than by hard data - which isn´t to be had yet. Like I said the last time we discussed this - its still incredibly early.

RADIO PITLANE
- Pirelli contract to be extended by a year, all on the quiet
- FIA is forced to hold a call for bids on tyres in 2014 - but no one expects anything by this, as Pirelli has, also on the quiet, extended contracts with most teams well into 2018
- ever wanted to know what driving straight costs? Many teams had test prior to Silverstone in Idiada, where they tested new aerodynamics parts (and LOT the DDRS) while doing straight driving tests (which are allowed, before anyone asks). A day there costs from 23000 Euro. BTW, many think teams do way more there than allowed, as the track near Tarragona is hard to be seen into from outside
- Paddy Lowe first day in new uniform. Got asked, when he´ll take Brawns job. Answer: Whenever Brawn decides to quit. Is proud to work for a man now, who beat him several times in his career.
- BUY THE BOOK: Tyler Alexander is going to sell his book soon. As a man who was with MCL right from the start, his memories and pics will make this thing a must have!
- FOI still mad at DIR qualy penalty. Car was too light by 1.5 kgs. FOI wanted the car to be reweighted, now the scale all of a sudden showed 0.5 kgs more. So FOI insisted on DIR reweighting. Now DIR was 2kgs heavier - which would make the combo legal. But FIA did not accept, as DIR could have been drinking two liters of water in the meantime. Szafnauer joked, pointing to his tummy: wouldn´t have happened with me in the cockpit...
- Mateschitz stays loyal to WEB, he´ll continue to be a Red Bull pilot at Porsche
- Lauda pays 50 Euro bet to Dr Marko. He had bet, Merc wouldn´t get fined by the tribunal. Paid up now.
- WIL celebrated 600th race at the 599th race. The real one will be the German GP, where they´re going to put pics of all 691 workers on the cars. The Man himself said, that since WIL founding, 78 teams have either come, gone, or be renamed.
- Martin Brundle takes the bike to Nürburgring. Wants to do a classic tour, driving Silverstone-Nürburgring-Spa.
- three parties for ROS: birthday #1 on Thursday, birthday #2 on Saturday, race win on Sunday
- RAI new haircut was due to a lost bet. But he didn´t like it at all, so never removed his hat the full weekend.
- minute's silence in commemoration of Mark Robinson on Friday Evening in the Pitlane. Mark was the steward killed in Montreal.
- the press center in Silverstone leaks, badly. Some problem with the AC killed several laptops and smartphones, mostly on Saturday
Fucking called it! Knew it would happen.

Also, could you give us a reminder when that book is due out?

One more: RBR feels forced to hire RAI, as they see the need to have two elite drivers to be able to compete for the constructors championship.
Who's the other elite driver?

yes please, VET vs RAI would be awesome, as much as I love WEB, RAI is the one who could give hell to the German... RAI or ALO, but the Spaniard is so committed to Ferrari.

That's not the reason it's impossible for Alonso to join RB. It's because he can't stand having someone on his team competing with him.

New design limits defined by Pirelli:
- no more side switching allowed (was: not recommended)
- cold pressure 15 PSI (was: 14 PSI) (tyre pressure usually goes up by 3 PSI when racing)
- camber front 4.5 ° (same)
- camber rear 2.5° (was: 3°)

Teams used WAY less than recommended pressure in Silverstone qualy, to make them faster, so some damage could have happened already then.

Less camber means it´ll become harder to get the tyres on temperature.

New measurements show, that G-forces in the turns in Silverstone have gone up by 15% compared to last year, said Charlie, so this track is now even harder to the tyres than Spa and Suzuka. HUL said he´s never been so fast in the Silverstone turns before, thinks the unusual wind direction on Sunday helped even more with this.

I didn't expect Massa and Alonso to speak Italian between them, even though they know it pretty well (and they drive for Ferrari).

"Say hello, say hello (to the camera)."

I love that it hangs on Hamilton to punctuate a point.

"Now I'm seeing him..."
"All by himself."
"I'm seeing him."

I'm not sure I understand the problem with the tyre switching. Scarbs wrote an article on it here.

According to that the tyre has no direction but WAS sided. The tyre swapping was more about tyre conservation (putting the more worn used tyre on the side that dealt less damage to the tyres) than it was about performance. So once the tyre was on the rim it doesn't matter what side you put it on, it's all still the right way around. And it was Pirelli that mount the tyres to the rims, not the teams.

The inner shoulder was still the inner shoulder, the outer was still the outer. Pirelli aren't even the ones that mark the direction on them, the teams do it themselves.

The drivers have come out and said they will boycott this weekend race if there are any tyre issues during practice & qualifying.

The GP drivers Association have said that the drivers will withdraw from the German GP if there are more tyre explosions during the race.

Some of them would carry on even if a tyre exploded. It would be quite interesting to see which ones do.

One thing is certain, RBR will use too low pressure on Webber's car, so his tyres will go kablam and after that more witch hunting

Is that even in their interests now? Mercedes were the biggest tyre killers on the grid and they'll be welcoming even tougher tyres with open arms.

They would be seen as scum though right. This is like their union and they would be crossing the picket line.

Of course they would, but if we take marussia for example if they stay out alone and get 43 points from 1st and 2nd thats 9th place in the championship virtually guaranteed. For them that extra money could mean survival as a team. Tell the drivers to drive around at 50mph so theres no safety issue.

So then caterham have to stay out. Then williams. Etc. Its just like Indy 2005.

Then we have the separate issue that the article mentions that not all drivers are part of the club, namely hamilton and raikkonen. They can stay out without breaking any agreement. And if they stay out so will vettel and alonso.

But the tyres probably wont fail anyway, so its fine.

If the GPDA have said they'll boycott then all of them will do it. They won't ostracise themselves by going against the thing they will have all voted and agreed upon. Isn't Vettel the current king of the GPDA?
