It kind of surprises me they had no concrete structures in front of the glass to prevent these kind of burglaries.

So each years adds to it say 2013- vettel 2014-hamilton etc.

Do they engrave a brand new trophy with all the winners every year?

Yes. The idea is that the WDC trophy for that year is unique to the driver because he won the championship. It's the same deal with the Constructor's trophy. Hell, if I recall correctly, there's a picture here somewhere of Hamilton with the WDC trophy for 2008 and one for this year, as he won those years.

Palmer's stock is a lot lower because it took him five seasons or something to win it. F1 teams usually want drivers who won in their first or second season.

Yep, same deal with Valsecchi and Leimer. In a world where there are very few seats for those who don't bring sponsorship or just bags of cash and where 16 year old phenoms are getting a run unless you make a dramatic impression straight away the teams move on.

"We are happy to announce that we have recently secured a trophy cabinet already stocked full. This is continuing the long years of McLaren ingenuity and hard work."

"In addition to taking our own driver's trophies, our innovative methods at McLaren has now enabled us to acquire other team's driver's trophies."

Announcement by Sauber ;-)
In a long expected announcement, Monisha Kaltenborn presented the new additions to the Sauber Family at the press conference in Hinwil, Switzerland.
The constructor, entering its 22nd Formula 1 season next year, presented Fabio Leimer, Esteban Ocon, Axcil Jefferies as well returning driver Kamui Kobayashi to a group of journalists at the official press conference. These drivers will be joining Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericcson, who were announced earlier this year, as well as Adrien Sutil, who still hangs around near the factory's main entrance, claiming he still has a contract.

The Swiss constructor also announced new additions to their group of affiliate and test drivers, which currently consists of Giedo Van der Garde, Sergei Sirotkin and Simona de Silvestro. Monisha Kaltenborn announced that she will announce those additions at a later date, which will be announced soon.
