It'll be even better when EP3 is released, You'll get another copy of HL2, EP1, and EP2 to give away for only $40!

I've played it on a PC with a 360 pad. You can adjust the vertical and horizontal sensitivity seperately, so I'll assume the same for the console version.

Essentially, the Scout is uncontrollable/ineffective (you need to stop to shoot, big minus), the Spy is difficult because of the quickness you need to switch between weapons (sap, knife, pistol, disguise and cloak) but at least still doable, demomen and soldiers can still grenade and rocket jump, but for both - the soldier's especially - it's really difficult and requires the sensitivity all the way up. Which hurts the game because it's mostly "low-rise" as in you don't want much vertical movement to begin with, but you'll be twitching around and staring at the floor. Snipers? :lol.

Engineers, medics, pyros and heavies remain largely unchanged, but engineers are now much more powerful as their stuff is harder to take out (which is the job of demomen, soldiers, spies - scouts are meant to run past).

Also I think there's movement acceleration ie. when you look around it speeds up. Can't be sure though - it could just be the motion blur.

EDIT: also I have no idea how to do fucking vocal taunts on the keypad, which is a shame as they are really useful for acting when disguised.

Thought it was Wed. @ 12AM PST?

Don't have class until 1PM on Wed. but 3PM EST is cutting it close for a night I usually get a good amount of sleep on.

Can't validate it until Steam allows you so even if it does (think the PC version is only shipping) so it wouldn't matter in the end.

Comes out Wednsday at retail (10th)

Comes out tomorrow night for Steam pre-loaders. 12:01AM PDT (Wed Morning) 3AMEST.
 
I wonder what they are going to do for the release of Half Life 2: Episode 3... especially since I'm getting the console version. If there is some way I would be able to get Ep 3 for $20 by itself as a retail release, that would be pretty cool.... don't expect it to happen though.

Makes me wonder if I should get the Orange Box at all, instead to just wait for the completed HL2 set for the consoles.

They aren't doing a guarantee. It just says "available Tuesday" for the PC version, and "in stores Wednesday by 2pm" for the 360 version.

I might stop by tomorrow evening and pick it up. If I can't play it... yeah, that'll suck, but only for a few hours.

Will the 360 version have party system match-making like Halo 3, Cod 4, PGR4, and other newer 360 games?

As excited as I am about Orange Box I don't think I can handle the can't play with my friends in ranked team games (especially in a game as teamwork intensive as TF:2).
 
Got some games to trade in so I'll definitely be getting The Orange Box this weekend. Can't wait! Probably be playing through all the HL's first.

Nice this just moved to a gamefly rental because of that. Stupid fucking developers need to learn that people like playing with friends on their team in ranked games on Live. MS doesn't allow it unless the developer uses a party system to keep friends on the same team so they don't cheat/boost.


Hell if I'm playing ranked with a bunch of strangers on my team in a game that requires a ton of strategy/teamwork.
 
Well/ My X800XT is beeping at me and I am getting a message that my card is overheating. X360 version or bust. I hope the controls aren't a dealbreaker.
 
I'm really, really looking forward to this disc. I consider Half-Life 1 to be one of my favorite games, though I never got the chance to play HL2 or Episode 1 because my PC hardware has never been powerful enough to handle them. Since I recently got a 360, getting this game is a no-brainer.

So I now know that Portal ties into the HL2 universe and story, but by how much? I don't know if anyone can answer this, but should I play through HL2 and its episodes before starting Portal in order to better appreciate the allusions to the HL2 storyline? I'm guessing it probably doesn't matter, but I'd hate to spoil the experience by jumping into Portal before or during HL2's adventures if the games are tied closely together.

As far as which one to play first, someone on SA emailed Gabe Newell asking him that very question. Gabe responded with something like "Either one, but I'd play Portal first personally."

I'm just assuming it doesn't, as no preview has ever made mention of it. I can't personally confirm it doesn't, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

a big drag if you cant party with your friends on ranked. the single reason LIVE urks me.
 
Seeing as how CS:S came with HL2 does that mean when you buy the OJ box you get HL2, EP1/2, Portal, TF2, AND CS:S? If so, if i give HL2 away does that mean my friend gets CS:S with it as well?

I have all that (or i will have orange box when its out). It's just that they have the option to give away HL2 in the orange box if you already bought HL2. Just wanted to see if CS:S was included.

So, Dell is going to replace my X800 for me under warranty (gotta love EPP perks). Should be here by Thursday. PC version for me.
