Now for the movie rankings

Top 3 is perfect IMHO. Not sure why Galaxy Quest is on there.

That list is surprisingly not bad! My only issue is that FC is too high; I think FC is a decent movie, just not great Trek. It's still exponentially better than the other TNG movies which are all absolute garbage.

How isn't it Trek? It's a story about friendship, how revenge is self-destructive, and how we can be better people than we think we are. There are gunfights, redshirts, ship beauty porn and space battles. Doesn't get much more Trek.

Maybe saying it's not great Trek is not really what I meant; I think it'd be more accurate to say that I'm annoyed at how out of character the TNG cast is in this film (specially Picard, considering the way he handled his Borg past in the series).

I'm also not a fan of the Borg Queen. I much prefer the hive-mind-with-no-central-figure version of the Borg.

Just saw this on TV and got a little excited, they're starting a magazine model collection for Starships in the TV show. I've always wanted a nice Star Trek model collection but they have a habit of being expensive for proper ones or hard to find, that is unless you want to make the model kits yourself but I am a terrible painter from when I tried so never got very far.

But these look pretty neat, I think I will have to get them.

edit:
Looking on the site there is a US version too.

There's a list of what ships will come with the first 30 issues too, spoilered incase anyone likes a bit of surprise in their life, lol.
1 Enterprise NCC-1701-D
2 Enterprise NCC-1701 TMP
3 Klingon Bird-of-Prey
4 Enterprise NX-01
5 Romulan Warbird
6 U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656
7 Klingon K'Tinga battlecruiser
8 U.S.S. Excelsior
9 U.S.S. Defiant NX-74205
10 Borg Sphere
11 U.S.S. Reliant (Miranda class)
12 Akira class
13 Jem'hadar cruiser
14 Cardassian Galor class
15 Equinox
16 Ferengi Marauder
17 Dauntless
18 Bajoran Solar Sailor
19 Stargazer
20 Klingon V'orcha class
21 Enterprise NCC-1701-E
22 Krenim Temporal Weapon Ship
23 Nebula class
24 Xindi insectoid ship
25 U.S.S. Prometheus
26 Tholian ship
27 Romulan Bird-of-Prey
28 Maquis Fighter
29 Jem'hadar bug
30 Nausicaan Fighter

They don't look too bad for magazine models. Reminds me of the Micro Machines collection from the 90s, just upscaled a bit.

Might keep my eye out if they hit NZ shores.

Negh'var, Valdore/Norexan, or Steamrunner
classes? I am disappoint.

I'm slowly but surely making my way through DS9 season 1, and I finally hit my first good, memorable episode. It was a long wait.

s01e19, "Duet"
A Cardassian sick with Kalla Nohra, contracted at a Bajoran labor camp, is passing through DS9 and is detained at Kira's request.

I got teary at the end, at Martiza's last conversation with Kira. I had to look up the actor, Harris Yulin on IMDb. Dude has had a LOT of work over the years, and I'm surprised he's not more high-profile.

Ay that's what I thought, not too bad, and saves me having to make them myself, lol.

They've only shown the first 30 off, there are also models like
DS9
which aren't in the list but the model itself has been shown off in pictures, I imagine space stations like that will be part of the special issues they will occasionally do. Theres two images from facebook. here and here, with a number of models, I don't know if any in there are ones that haven't been announced as coming yet though.

mmm, £300 for the lot.
More than that, £678.30 for their planned 70 issues, and that is ignoring ring binders and special issues they mention of their site.

One of my favorite Trek episodes. As you said, it's the first really good episode of DS9. A nice taste of what's to come when the series gets going.

Just picked this up on a whim, the model isn't great but for £2 it's not bad. Magazine is wafer thin.

No interested in others at the usual price of £6, although I might be tempted by Voyager and The Defiant.

gah, I can't find the starship collection magazine in stock anywhere. Would have been worth £2 for a dinky Galaxy model.

In case anyone didn't see it, they've got TOS movie lithographs over at StarTrek.com. 12" x 24", $25 or a discount if you get them all. I got myself the STVI one--strikes me as the right balance between the "retro" look and a cinematic poster, less tacky than the episode-specific ones they've been doing. Should be here in a couple of days, I'll report on the quality if anyone's interested. Kind of sucks buying something based on GIFs.

Watched TNG Lower Decks yesterday. Hit me right in the gut. ;(
Was that the one where Picard basically told a young and insecure Bajoran that if she wanted Starfleet to ever place trust in her she had to go on this suicide mission? That was so out of character for him. It bugged the crap out of me.

Those are all pretty snazzy. They'd look great framed.

I didn't see it that way. He was tough on her at first because he wanted to know if she was serious, but all the while he knew she could carry out the mission. Then he offered the mission to her as an opportunity to go above and beyond. What bothers me is that the mission itself didn't make much use of her skills - she was sharkbait, basically.

Need to get III... it's beautiful.

what?
That Undiscovered Country poster rules, as do the other ones. I especially wish I liked Star Trek III more, the poster is lovely.

Think it would have been stronger without the Spock face, I like the simplicity of VI and V more, so that's what I went with (interesting that he chose the camping scene.)

Frame has arrived (they actually sell frames this size, who knew) and I should have the prints by this weekend.

Just watched Little Green Men from s4 of DS9, holy shit it was awesome. Quark is the best character of the show, he can carry an entire episode by himself without the rest of crew and make it the best episode of s4 so far.

Some great lines from the episode:

"In stores? If they buy poison, they'll buy anything."

"The 3 of us... And millions of primitive hu-mons, I like those odds"

"They irradiated their own planet?"

That's the best DS9 episode right there. I liked the universal translator bit, I wonder if it was actually the first episode where we saw how it actually works...

What in the heck is this new Star Trek Renegades TV series?

Is this real? Is this the project Michael Dorn (Worf) was working on back in July? Is this really happening?
I posted about it already. lol

It's not Dorn's project (that failed and was going to be an indie movie). This is Tim Russ' project, based on the "success" (???) of his last Star Trek fan film. They've gone to crowdfunding for the movie/episode twice (once on Kickstarter, and most recently on IndieGoGo).

I honestly have no idea which is considered the "best" Star Trek fan film project any more (the various TOS ones look pretty good now, but that's because 60s sets are so easy to recreate), but Tim Russ' projects have the most actor alums.

So I've been going through TOS.

Finally finished S1 today. Took forever with the extra long season and ~50 minute episodes.

I'll have more to say later, but my drive-by comment is that McCoy is one of my least favorite doctors (so far). Maybe better than Crusher, but worse than almost everyone else.

I know people were ranking them lately and I can't remember what you all said, but that's my opinion.

Young William Shatner as Kirk is great though and it really makes you appreciate how well casted he was in the JJ reboot.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
So, is Abrams working on a third Star Trek movie or is that up in the air? I mean, he's going to be busy as hells working on Star Wars.

Just wanted to pop in and say that I've caught a Star Trek bug recently. I haven't watched but probably 3-4 episodes before this, and right now I'm going through TNG. Picking and choosing episodes at the moment, but so far I've really enjoyed Yesterday's Enterprise and the first Borg episode ( I have a fetish for roboticized humans).

Are there quite a few borg episodes? What about the other shows? I demand more Borg.

Voyager has a Borg join the cast of the show after three seasons, so... yeah. lol

Voyager does the Borg, but not that well. Watch Deep Space Nine after TNG.

Deep Space Nine is taking Space Opera to a whole new meaning, but I've grown to appreciate it not to mention it reminds me a lot of the 90's. I used to think Voyager was better but after watching most of them, I've concluded it is, while still good in regards to some episodes, one of the weaker spin offs.

BTW, just finished watching Enterprise episode "Silent Enemy". Seen it before but forgot what happened. That's something they could always revisit being we don't know what the heck they were up to.

DS9 doesn't have Borg, and has more religious and political stuff instead. Voyager probably has most Borg stuff in all, but the big Borg episodes do not get even near the same quality as TNG Borg episodes. Enterprise did have one Borg episode, but it wasn't all that great either. Watch Babylon 5 before DS9. It does everything better, and DS9 is based on Babylon 5 plans that the show writer tried to sell Paramount first.

Well, DS9 does have the Borg. But after The Sisko scowled at them in the first 2 minutes of the pilot, they decided never to return to test him. In fact, they planned their attack on Earth in First Contact so The Sisko would be off on another mission, and out of contact.

Oh yeah, forgot the pilot. It's still funny how in Fist Contact Worf was the only DS9 cast member who was with Defiant. They were only trying to protect Earth, so it's not like they needed the best officers on board or anything.

Got my first three starships magazine models in the post, the Galaxy and Klingon Bird of Prey are quite nice, the Enterprise TMP however is however less so. Still, 3 out of 70 down, 67 to go not counting specials, lol.

Can't wait to get my Sovereign class, easily my favourite ship, shame it is all the way out there at number 21.

His company is still doing it, I imagine they will still run certain things through him, but I think he himself as director is moving on to Star Wars.

It would be neat if they took these pieces of lore from the game that they have expanded on into other media.

Because then they would need to write them into the film. Though it is true the stardate has Sisko off station and out of contact at the time.

Doing what?

I always thought it made more sense. Why they would pile all their exec officers and leave the space station completely unmanned was beyond me... At least Voyager never shoved everyone into the Flyer.

The Search For Spock at #5!? For me, that was the worst of all the movies followed by Nemesis. At least First Contact is in the #2 spot, although I would have put that as my #1.

Yep The Search For Spock would be bottom. Insurrection though, I think is a nice enough movie.
