The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

I STILL haven't played the full game of RE6 yet, so I'm not sure how the game presents its focus on stun and melee, but it does sound like a big problem is the game doesn't tell you any of that stuff.

The demo actually shows the control configuration screen during every load screen, which I remember thinking was a pretty inelegant way of teaching a player the controls, but I guess not teaching them at all is even worse. I still plan on buying the PC version during a Steam sale, because I really like all the leaping and rolling stuff, but the game obviously has huuuuge problems.

That looks kinda fun. More so than Mount & Blade.
From what I've played of the beta it devolves into guys with spears in full plate mashing for the win. It's OK if you have a duel with a single enemy, or if you use a cross- or longbow.

War of the Roses looks fantastic in the QL but I've heard bad things about lag and imbalances.

Realism is shattered in the first few minutes when guys start clipping through each other.
That, and the horrible controls for aiming your attacks... yikes. I just finished Skyward Sword and seeing a similar attempt at swordplay done here so badly makes me wonder how anyone could knock Skyward Sword's controls.

If the game is obtusely withholding gameplay information involving those abilities it's hardly his fault that he hasn't adapted to using them. There's something to be said about experimenting with the mechanics yourself, sure, but I also wouldn't give the game a pass for basically making that the only option. Especially with such apparently important systems.

(If the info is only present in the loading screens, that is. I'm going by Brad and Patrick's word.)

And when Jeff brought up possibly being able to dive back to avoid that, instead of trying it Brad pretty much just said 'whatever' and that he didn't know that at the time. He never tries to improve upon it after knowing that. You can roll out of the way of the dog jumps, which was also frustrating him pretty clearly.

There's even the part at 23:10 where he tries to step on the head of a zombie that's standing up. It does give a prompt, but the zombie is...getting up and he wonders why he didn't stomp on his head. If you wait too long, stuff like this can happen. I'm guessing brad was holding forward which made him kick instead without actually trying to stomp, but the stomp would miss anyway. And Patrick going "see? yup" for no reason doesn't really add much.

Also, you can move around while reloading so using that as an excuse for getting hit by that guy doesn't really make sense from the start.

Never played Skyward Sword so I can't compare the two. Drew seemed to be doing fine directing his attacks. The issues come from using the mouse for camera controls and attack controls but that isn't unique to this game. If you are trying to look one way but swing the other it's going to be tricky.

We need a sequel quick look

Guys, Vinny is gone this week. GONE. They already did the Sherlock quicklook without him, and they might do the Harry Potter one as well. Do you really not want Vinny back for Farm Simulator?!

Jeff killing it out of the gate on the Sherlock Holmes QL.

Ryan listing off the bishop's injuries made me think of SmokyDave's tag.
Looks like an okay game. Never seen the "bishop's tour" puzzle thing before. I might check it out on steam some time.

I think it's actually physically impossible to do the Dragonball Z QL without Vinny.

Kinect doesn't pick up on human power levels when a DBZ game is in. Have to wait until Vinny brings his Saiyan bloodline along board. Ultimately it is good he reproduced, Max will be critical in the next saga.

Going to call you out here, he didn't say whatever, he said "I don't know, maybe?" Then goes on to explain that at that point of the game there wasn't any explanation that you can do that, and from what I've seen that's a pretty common problem, if the way the game explain things to you are as shit as I keep hearing.

That's really not just "whatever".

Catching up on some older QLs... Trying to.

I knew it. I knew this would happen.
I should have never watched that DOA5 video.

The bombcast had pretty much already resold me on the idea after I cancelled my preorder, but the game looks like so much fun. I'm going to be picking it up. : (

This looks great but it's too bad it doesn't have a single player though. At least i'll have Mount and Blade 2 to scratch that itch.

Yeah, like Dave I spent most of my time in the single player portion of M&B. Love the look of WoR but I have no interest in multiplayer.

I'm so far behind...

Finished up the XCOM QL, and it looks like a lot of fun. It still looks kind of overwhelming from the outside, but it looks fun enough that I might be able to get into it if I gave it a chance. A rather fun QL EX too.

Who would have ever imagined Ryan was as good at bouncing a basketball as he was? Putting Jeff to shame here, man.

That Sesame Street kinect game looks absolutely dreadful compared to Double Fine's. I'm sure kids will love it, but it was such a step back from my point of view.
