I still don't get the second-season hate here. It had problems, but my least favorite part of the series is still a stretch in the first half of S1, instead.

Ceallach is the other one. Maybe someone else is a woman but won't admit it. My ex used to do that. She had too many cringeworthy experiences with the usual internet nonsense.

I used to think you might be a woman, Jaded, because I have a habit of associating everyone with their avatars quite a bit and I was like, "oh, well, Jaded is probably a gun-toting animated woman, and that's cool, we're all unique."

I'm not surprised that even in the West the franchise skews heavily male. There haven't been too many examples of strong pilot chicks who don't feel compelled to waggle their boobs a lot or something. I got an ex into the franchise with 00, which she loves, but she hasn't branched out from there.
Gundam hasn't had decent pilot chicks for a while. Well yeah there's Lunamaria and Nena Trinity, but Luna crushed on a psychopath and Nena was a psychopath so I guess in some ways they're just read headed versions of Tomino era gundam women. Last good one was Emma from what I remember...and Christina I think from 0080. I really have to finish 0080...ugh.

The characters got more irritating. Louise pissed me off, Andrei pissed me off...the multitude of dumb as shit names...though that's Gundam in a nutshell, villain being named Ribbons "Hallmark card" as far as I'm concerned, shit tier romance.

What are your thoughts on fan-translated Gundam novels, if there are any?

Good to know re: the originals. I am loving this trip through MSG so I intended to get into the Origin adaptation. I'll check that out, too.

I dont know that I have ever seen any tbh.

Origin is fucking amazing, my absolute favorite version of the OYW. There is a decent 90s version Gundam 0079 that had an english manga too that was decent. It had a bunch of MSV MS you don't see much of in it. It isn't crucial, but Origin absolutely is,

It's kind of weird to me how few there are. When I was sketching out stuff for my project that would help ensure it doesn't feel like Gundam fan fiction, one of the first things one of my preview people suggested was to ensure there's decent female pilot representation that isn't psychotic, lol.

He was so right.

One of the reasons I think I love V so much.

Marbet Fingerhat, Katejina, the Shrikes, tons of amazing females in it. Even if is Tomino at his worst(in a good way, not bad Tomino like G-Reco).

Hey physchotic can be great and Gundam really needs more of it.

The problem is it sets up psycopaths like Heero and Setsuna but it doesnt have the spine to show them for any real psycopath they should be.

Itd be nice if they let a woman do that, a heroic woman who takes pleasure in killing those below her.......okay that sounds wrong.

Im thinking if Hilda from Cross-Ang forgive me.

Jaded, re: 00 S2. I don't know, I liked Louise a lot more in S2 than in S1 (well, S1 before her pivotal event). I was just getting back into anime when I first watched 00, though, and I flinched every time she hogged S1 screentime being a bitchy spoiled high school girl. I don't like school anime very much and I was like "ugh why Gundam why." I knew it had to be going somewhere and I was pleased that she went crazy. It was a lot more tolerable to me than her previous self, prior to getting involved in the wars.

I admit though, if I had watched 00 after some other stuff I've seen since, I'd probably find it more trite. I hadn't really seen that kind of plot point yet in Gundam.

The Innovade names are all really dumb but I enjoy it. Objectively they're awful, yeah.

I like Allelujah x Marie. I hate how little screen time she gets for a while though.

I dont know that I have ever seen any tbh.

I don't know who Hilda is yet, but I get what you're saying.

How fucking Marbet escaped getting thrown into a fridge in Victory is a shock to me cause I thought she was so going to die. I think most of the good members of the Shrike Team died though. I think after the first batch he didn't even bother giving them names from what I can remember.

You asking for Ophelia from Claymore insane?

I keep forgetting about Marie, she's actually a good character when she's not just something for Allelujah to beg for. I liked Louises character growth, but I don't remember liking her dynamic with Andrei too much. I might have to run through 00 again at some point, it's one of my least watched Gundam shows.

For me I dislike season 2 because they made all the characters Power Rangers and what they did with Lockon. It is silly to put all of the characters in the colors of their Gundams in their casual clothes. The stuff with Lockon is ridiculous. They take seriously something the movie Beerfest does as a joke. The second season was such a huge drop in quality. I really enjoyed the first season, but my feelings for 00 as a whole is hurt by the second.

Honestly Ive never watched Claymore.

I just want someone who is trained and broken by war to be that way. Someone who doesnt fall pray to the pacifist ending and if they laugh when killing to people we see that they are deranged.

Sunrise has done this with other women. Mai Tokiha, Shizuru Fujino, Hilda....pretty much all of Cross Ang's cast.

I want to see that scary side and a woman lead in Gundam.

I find that revelation surprising since it's fandubbed "Gaymore" I heard Cross Ang was shit though.

Tomino's novelization is great... But not really in terms of mechanical or battle descriptions. It's more of an essay on what human evolution will be like, with a plot attached to it.

Is the RX-78-2 the only Gundam with non-green eyes? I don't know why I just noticed this, but most Gundams have green eyes. The only example where that isn't the case is the RX-78-2 with yellow eyes.

Strike Gundam (yellow) and Build Burning Gundam (blue) off the top of my head.

edit: lol there's Ez8 too but... bleh

Sweet Goddess above is it ever.

Plus its Gundam SEED ZZ with Flay as the lead. Its weird, all Gundam fans know it has SEED weapon cameos, but the scary part of Cross Ang is that it rips off entire character designs and animations.

Thet litterally reused Destiny's Shining Finger, "Tusk" is a blatant Kira recast and the opening nearly copies one of Destiny's opening.

Its a total trip for a Gundam fan.

Can't believe I forgot about the Ez8 since I just finished building the model for it. I forgot about the Strike and Build Burning. Looks like the Freedom and Strike Freedom also have yellow eyes.

Delta Plus has Red eyes like the Shiki if you count them.

Banshee has red as well.

Try On 3 has yellow.

See, this is sorta why I don't get it. Some of the complaints feel relatively trivial to me. That's not meant to say that I'm trivializing what matters to you, but to me it seems like a small matter. Specifically, the pilots wear their Gundam's colors issue. I don't think that I could ever personally perceive that as contributing greatly to a significant drop in quality.

Lockon II is really cliche, but not a big deal to me. But I can see how it'd cause people to knock a point off of S2.

Good to know.

My books won't win any awards for mechanical description, either, but I need to feel comfortable doing it.

I will say this.

Im hard pressed to think of a show that has a a more phychotic, selfish and hateful lead in anime that isn't a Hentai or a specialized ova series and this includes both men and women.

Ang is so detestable she makes Flay appear as kind as Lacus and even I in my weird character love, hated Ang.

I agree that the clothes thing is trivial, but that and Lockon are easy examples that illustrate the drop in quality. Ultimately I think the second season suffers from significantly worse writing and mishandles some characters. I don't hate 00 by any means, but I'm highly disappointed in it do to the potential the first half had.

I AM SO IN.
JeffZero I will say this as a warning she is Flay taken to her most extremes in ever negative regard.

There is lots of Mecha action and its like what would happen if they took Gundam Seed Destiny mixed it with Rin Daughter of Miyxoniese and then said we still want to gross people out.

The fact this was aired in the time slot it was is shocking to me.

That said as a Gundam fan and someone who has watched SEED and Destiny there is alot of Ironic fun to be had.

Last two warnings...Im a sadist and given the lack of women leads let alone Lesbians in Anime I had a high level of tolerance and I almost quit by Episode 5, but Hilda makes it all worth it.

Yeah I STRONGLY recommend waiting till you finish SEED at least.

Granted I love Flay even in the end....just like I think Riddhe is the best Unicorn character so to me I can get Flay love.....but yeah by the end 90% of people hate her.

Nah it's fine. I think I know it's the Gusion since it's outer armour has been removed and given some pan shots. I just want to see it in action.

Gotcha.

I don't fInd the writing too much worse and I love the scale of two of the battles in S2, plus the improved cast chemistry. All told, it's enough to balance out the issues I had with it.

Kampfer is really old and could use a 2.0, but I kind of doubt it'll actually get one. It's a decently popular design, but it seems like you need to be Freedom/Main UC Suit popular to get a 2.0.

It is the 15th anniversary though, so it might be a good time to do some 0080 stuff. I wouldn't bet on it. If anything comes, it probably won't be until the 20th in 2021.

Gusion ReBAKE has sub-arms? Damn that's cool. Too bad the HG needs so much work to look right. So much paint detail missing.

Crossbone X-2 has red eyes. You can kinda say the same thing for the Blue Destiny Units if you want to count EXAM.

EDIT: Hi-Nu has yellow eyes as well.

LOL bruh I am half way done with the straight build on both my Wing and Quabley.

They are very easy to build compared to a Zaku 2 for sure.

wat? halfway done on two??? ;D

some people don't so it's not a big deal, it's really for painting but a few say it helps decals stick on the surfaces better.

the runners at times come from the factory with mold release agents remaining. the residue can keep paint from sticking but if you don't plan to paint it won't make too much of a difference.

that makes sense and yea build wise, the arms, head, and torso are done on my wing, and main body done for the Quabley.
