You guys that use the panel wash method, if you use lighter fluid what brand do you use? Gonna do some shopping after work, planning to get all the supplies for this.
If you don't paint, just do acrylic with alcohol.
Any lighter fluid or lacquer thinner works, but you need to be careful in applying. If you don't pay attention and use too much thinner you will melt the plastic or make it brittle.
Just use a little thinner or fluid and wipe the excess off, it will evaporate fast enough not to break anything so long as you don't use a lot.

I usually only paint areas that need it to be fully color accurate, rather than the whole kit (HG examples: head vulcans, little areas that need grey, usually on the feet or legs, ect.)
Acrylic and alcohol? Just rubbing alcohol I assume. That might be easier to get ahold of.

What, how can someone that enjoys Gundam dislike 0080 so much? So surprisingly to see.
Like, even as a 13-year-old boy I liked and felt something. Now that I watch it as a 30-year-man that's gone through shit, it's so much more meaningful and strong. And has the fucking Kämpfer.

If you notice...my like of Gundam is almost never from the characters and while I get the emotional value that War in the Pocket it had I simply didnt care or feel invested in them.
Also I think Kampfer is hideous and it was the single worst suit that Tatsuya got in build fighters.
Alex is decent but honestly NT 01 still has many problems with its design for my taste.

I'll be posting thoughts on various shows I haven't watched for some time yet, so hopefully that continues to generate a bit of discussion. It seems like it's helped a little bit so far, when combined with other members posting model kit pics and hatred posts toward Frozen Teardrop, hehe. And also David discovering Crossbone, which I look forward to checking out, myself.

I was rereading Gaia Gear recently and man I don't like as much as I used to, but I started thinking, what is it about that far UC that is hard for anyone to pin down. G-Savior, Gaia Gear, G-Reco, all really flawed.

I do that on many forums (Jeff O'Connor) but the apostrophe in my last name is treated as an "illegal character" on many sites (lololol) so I took to JeffZero -- the "Zero" is the "O" in O'Connor.

Well, since you don't really watch the franchise for its characters, I have to ask -- do you enjoy any of the plots, at least? I really like 00's setting and overall narrative (with some key exceptions, but yeah) but I dunno. If you're really mostly in it just for the mecha and you don't much care for Exia then I can see how it'd be a 4/10 for you (or whatever it was you listed).
Still, I love much of 00's mecha, including Exia.

I still need to read a few Gundam novels to get a feel for how mecha authors visualize their stuff through words. My book plan is coming along nicely (25-30 pages of my draft per week) and my preview staff thinks I'm pretty decent at describing my mechs, but I worry those descriptions will grow stale withot guidance. I have dozens of units in mind and I'm still quite new to mecha fandom.
Watching all this Gundam is helping, but I need to read, too.

I love the plot of the Zero System actualy melts the mind of the user. It gave After Colony something like NewType with a legit downside.
Char is amazing in 0079 and Zeta.
Kira and Athrun are wonderful and one of the best relationships in all of Gundam and but they couldnt mash it with the whole Ultimate cordinator stuff.

I used to think you might be a woman, Jaded, because I have a habit of associating everyone with their avatars quite a bit and I was like, "oh, well, Jaded is probably a gun-toting animated woman, and that's cool, we're all unique."
I'm not surprised that even in the West the franchise skews heavily male. There haven't been too many examples of strong pilot chicks who don't feel compelled to waggle their boobs a lot or something. I got an ex into the franchise with 00, which she loves, but she hasn't branched out from there.

The original gundam novel trilogy is fantastic, definitely worth reading. Lots of craziness and surprises and it is way different from the show. Don't wanna spoil anything.
I don't know if any of the other novels are in english though. For the Barrel was serialized in newtype USA but it was never compiled, you would have to hunt down back issues.
What are your thoughts on fan-translated Gundam novels, if there are any?
Good to know re: the originals. I am loving this trip through MSG so I intended to get into the Origin adaptation. I'll check that out, too.
I went back to go check your rating for 00 and I'd say it's rather accurate if it includes the 2nd season because that was shit.
OO inluded both Season 1 and 2 in my rating.
