In case anyone was wondering, I opened the Revive Gouf box and thought it looked familiar... Most parts are from the Gouf R35 kit, with the exception of this one new sprue for the leg armor and left hand. Also has a different head piece/snout.

I was kinda hoping that's how they'd end episode 3, ending with the first part of OVA 2 rather than just ending at the Gundam face like in OVA 1.

But damn that was fucking lazy. Instead of a seamless segue, it's Unicorn transforms > Charges (end shot of OVA 1) > Beginning of OVA 2, like, the LITERAL beginning where they show the transformation that we JUST saw AGAIN before the fight starts.

This is it: http://puu.sh/okXYl.webm

What they should have done: Ended it where OVA 1 did, ED, rest of the episode, episode preview. Would have worked so much better.

Sometimes shows do that shit. Basically reintroduce the scene after a commercial. Filler.

Also, that file name for the webm. lol

Been out of the country on some Naval exercises for a month, I have so much to catch up on @_@

End of IBO, Begining of 0096, T-bolt, oh god.

Help me out gaf bros and broesses?

Hobby knife or sandpaper for getting rid of that last bit of runner nub. Commence argument/suggestions.

I'm not a big fan of using the knife. Personally I use Godhands to get the nub as close to the plastic as possible then a very fine metal file (if it's even needed). I highly recommend picking up a set of Tamiya Smooth Double Cut files if you haven't already. It's a good set to have. They dont damage the plastic too much, you could use a fine grit sandpaper after cutting down the nub with the file to make it smooth. Since I have to build weekly I stick to files for everything now since they can be used over and over.

Not sure how I feel about the Efreet either. The white missile pods... the orange shoulders. In general it's cool but as a model I'm pretty torn on how it looks.

Oh but I literally just walked into work and sat down, taking out my things, look up to see this sitting across from me behind my co-workers desk.

So curious as to why it's here, who brought it, who's building it!? Can I build it!?... IS GUNPLA ALLOWED NOW!?!?! If this is going to be something that just sits there for months or years I will be so mad.

Picked up the first volume of The Origin today. What a beautiful book. I've been trying to move away from physical comics, but I might have to pick this whole thing up. I watched the first episode of Mobile Suit Gundam after reading The Origin. It holds up surprisingly well, though I do like all the changes made in The Origin so far. Having some Zakus encounter the RX-78-1 was pretty cool. I liked that the eyes were a visor like a Guncannon.

Anyone have any tips for decals that don't want to stick? I keep coming back to my RX-78-2 and some of the decals keep peeling up. Specifically it is the shiny gold decals on the joints and the strips that circle around the pieces on the sides of the arm and legs. It seems like decals that fold around a piece tend to come off while stickers that are on a more flat surface are sticking fine.

Do it. One of the most premium feeling manga/comics in existence. Those watercolors are enough for me. I have all 12 volumes on my shelf with an MG RX-78 Origin version right next to them. It doesn't hurt that the series itself is an excellent retelling of 0079.

My roommate and I decided to watch Gundam 00. I'd seen the original series and part of Wing years and years ago. We loved IBO recently, and he loved Unicorn (I was less enthusiastic about that series due to the fact that it went full-on Final Fantasy at the end).

So I'm wrapping up Season 1 of G00, and I don't know how I really feel about it.

The first 15 episodes or so are basically OP robots styling on hopelessly-outmatched opponents for episode after episode. Any time someone comes up with a way to actually threaten Celestial Being, the show pulls something out of its ass to end the fight. Dynames gets disabled and captured, but wakes up in the cargo hold of the enemy ship and escapes with no real effort (I was furious when this happened, because I thought the show had the chance to do something really interesting by letting the Russian general capture and reverse-engineer Dyanames, but the show completely squandered it). The Gundams get pinned down by an overwhelming artillery barrage, and when it looks like all is lost, the Thrones unit shows up out of nowhere with zero prior introduction to save the day. Graham Aker is actually putting up a fight in his custom Flag unit... and he gets called off after exchanging 2-3 blows with a Gundam. Or Virtue shows up with hyper mega ultra beam to end an interesting battle. Just cop-out after cop-out.

I really wanted to see one of Earth's militaries reverse-engineer the GN drives. Then their best scientist gets killed (this had me stewing). Then they get gifted a bunch of GN drives out of nowhere. Kind of a cheap way to do it, but whatever. Finally some parity. Finally the promise of some real fights. But we get one freaking episode with a real fight with legit tension, and then the show pulls the Trans-Am system out of its ass to restore the status quo of OP Gundams styling on fools. Between that and Conservation of Ninjutsu, by the time we get a fun space battle with GN Drive-equipped opponents, these ostensibly Gundam-tier mobile suits are getting one-shotted by Virtue and Kyrios again.

It's clear this show is just not what I want it to be, which is sad because it actually has a damn good cast, if they could just be utilized properly. It's a damn good scenario with awesome world-building... which is wasted by poor story beats. Every interesting battle is ended early by the show pulling something out of its ass. Even Lockon dying didn't really feel earned. The aftermath was sad as fuck, but the actual death felt like the result of bad luck.

If Season 2 doubles down on these bad choices, as I've heard it does, I might have to stop watching and go for a different mecha series.

IBO was so great in large part because the battles were so tense. Barbatos was obviously a powerful unit, but not so powerful as to make every fight a curbstomp. And the victories felt like they were due more to Mikazuki being an amazing pilot than to the inherent power of the Gundam.

If you hate it now, don't even bother with Season 2. Go watch Code Geass or something. In fact go watch Eureka 7 since it's actually a good show. Or even Full Metal Panic or Rahxephon

Thing is I actually really want to like Gundam 00, because it does a lot of things so well. There's so much potential in the show that's squandered by weird creative decisions.

But yeah, I guess I'll skip Season 2 and watch something else.

I haven't seen season 2 in years. I think awakening the trailblazers just broke. Season 2 is everything wrong with season one cranked up to 12. Go watch the vision of Escaflowne.

The only thing good about Trailblazer and Season 2 was that it gave use BRAVE, Masurao, and Susanoo.

Any chance @ a G-Gundam BD release in NA?
I'm certain G Gundam will arrive on BD as part of the Sunrise/TRSI partnership, but it will take some time since Wing isn't hasn't been released yet and that came out in Japan awhile ago. At the moment they're still working through UC titles like ZZ.

I see. I have the old Bandai DVDs for almost everything they did release, which excludes ZZ, so I'd probably pick that up.

Finished G-Reco. I honestly don't even know what to talk about with this show. It was disjointed from the beginning and kept falling apart as it went. The factions and politics were really hard to follow and made no sense by the end. I think that art style, mech design, and Bellri were the best parts of the show. In a lot of Gundam, the protagonist either kills so many people he stops reacting to it or pulls a Kira Yamato and never kills anyone ever again. I liked that Bellri tried to not kill whenever possible, but when he did he was always messed up by it.

Now that I've seen all the mainline Gundam shows, I might start rewatching Mobile Suit Gundam or maybe give 00 another shot since I barely remember it. I'll eventually check out IGLOO and some of the other movies.

To barely remember Gundam 00 is the best way to remember it. I kind of want to rewatch it, but at the same I know there are parts that just do not work and opt to waste my time doing something else.
