Sometimes you wonder if a show can get better than this happens.

Master Asia the best. He pilots a Gundam as a handicap.

I just finished episode 15 of G Gundam which finished the arc of episodes in Shinjuku. This show just keeps getting better. I would be get a MG of shining Gundam right now, but I believe that it gets another form or something at some point so I'll hold off on getting it, since I don't want to spoil myself trying to find out. I also want to grab a gouf and the ver. ka of Sazabi to go with my Nu Gundam.

I've been waiting years for ver 2.0 of MG G Gundam kits but still nothing and I'm starting to lose hope ( ._.)

I'd kill for some HGFC Shuffle Alliance kits to go with that updated Shining, Master and Nobel from a while back; but I really just want a good Maxter.

I just finished marathoning Iron-Blooded Orphans and need more Gundam. I was late to franchise and didn't hop on until SEED/Destiny. Which I actually really enjoyed, I know the newer Gundam series can be pretty divisive. Watched 00 and didn't mind that too. Orphans was fantastic though.

Keen to get onto Unicorn. But should I be watching the OVAs or the split up series RE0096? Are there any major differences I should be aware of? Honestly the series suits my viewing style more since I don't have time to sit down and watch a long OVA very often so I would prefer to do that if I can.

Also playing with the idea of going back and watching older shows at some point. The original would be interesting and I've always wanted to see Wing. Do these still hold up relatively speaking?

I'd also like to go back and see Wing sometime. I've seen Endless Waltz countless times but have never watched the actual series. I'd highly recommend watching Gundum Build Fighter & GBF Try if you haven't seen those.

1. OVAs. There are absolutely no differences aside from some shading, so go with the one that has better pacing.

2. Relatively, I'd say yes.

As far as I know the there's no difference between the OVA's and the series for Unicorn other than some small art details, so if you would rather watch the show it's probably fine. Although that may just ruin the pacing depending on how much you watch at a time.

You should watch the original I think it holds up fine personally. The movie trilogy adaption of it is also available to stream on the gundaminfo youtube page until september 21 (I might be wrong about that date), and while I would rather watch the series the movies are fine.

I will say that if you want to watch Unicorn you may want to watch some of the older series (namely the original, Zeta, ZZ, and Char's Counterattack. At the very least the original and CCA) before you watch Unicorn; you don't have to but it may make it more enjoyable. That or watch Unicorn again after you watch these series.

Wing is sorta divisive. For a lot of people it was their first experience with Gundam and they perfer it, but to others it may be too different from some of the other series. Like all series it has it's issues, but I would say it's worth a watch if you're interested.

I think I started GBF Try awhile back and never finished it. I do prefer the more serious stories of the mainline series, but I might give them another try at some point!

If they're pretty much the same I might actually go for the series, since I tend to just have time to watch an episode or two every now and then during breaks etc at work it might be the better format for me.

Great, I might go back and watch them after Unicorn. Will I be missing a lot of backstory in Unicorn having not seen any of the shows in that continuity yet?

Okay, yeah was wondering about continuity with Unicorn. Might check out the movie adaption of the original then, just for the sake of saving time! Thanks!

Here's the UC Gundam crash course I put a friend through before she watched Unicorn with me. She didn't seem to miss any continuity nods, but she did go back later and watch the older series.

1. Original movie trilogy.

2. Zeta - A New Translation movie trilogy (but know the end of the last movie is, in VN terms, a Good End. I recommend after finishing the last movie to find the last half of the final TV series episode for the True End).

3. Wiki plot summary of ZZ.

4. Char's Counterattack.

Okay cool, seems like there's a lot of catching up to do.

A bit worried whether it will be easy to keep interested despite the old school animation but if the stories are compelling enough it should be fine I guess. Will give the first movie a go today and see how it goes from there.

Gundam Seed Destiny Episode 12

Episodes like this are why I cant see how people can dislike Shinn. He was so epic with the Core Splendor immediately after he awoke to the Seed and got the new legs and sword. All that massive destruction to the mobile armor and the ships destroyed like bath toys.

I hope the guy that is head of military in Orb gets off'd or something, he's terrible. At least Azrael looked good and had a good command over an cool squadron, this guy has nothing redeemable.

Wiki ZZ is the single worst piece of advice in this thread outside of getting ideas of which shows to watch based on what DTL thinks is quality gundam.

My advice is to watch the whole original series then go straight into 08th team. Never watch any movies.

After I am done with 83 stardust I am going to watch zeta.

ANT doesn't really replace Zeta, tbh. If you're watching UC, you can't really get away with not watching Zeta.

The original movie trilogy works better as a replacement. But if you watch the movies, you won't see Quality Zaku!

Oh didnt see this post. I would highly suggest watching Gundam Age, its one of the strongest entries in the Gundam franchise and offers many innovative and provocative sound and drama experiences.

Wing stands up, I just finished rewatching it. Best cast and character designs for leads in Gundam since Seed/Destiny.

Probably going to do the 0079 movies, Zeta movies and then Char's Counterattack.

I *may* replace Zeta movies with the series but I did a bit of reading which said the changed ending doesn't affect Unicorn much and I can probably just read up on that anyway. From what I've seen ZZ doesn't have much bearing on Unicorn and seems to be pretty divisive in tone? Not sure if it is required viewing or not.

It's very easy to dislike that noseless shit stain.

The new ending retcons ZZ out of existence which kind of effects Unicorn a bit.
No its not ideal but it's obviously good enough for some people outside of GAF who don't have much time to watch full series. So "worst advice in this thread" is nothing but hyperbole.
It's hard to have the worst advice in a thread when you share a thread with DTL.

Sorry, you're going to have to watch ZZ and Z's TV series.

What Gundam shows are you comparing AGE to? Because it doesn't fly unless your pool of Gundam shows is really small.

You really should watch Zeta series if you can (it's one of the best imo). But if you really just want to get to Unicorn and have time issues then it's fine to watch the movies now and go back to the series later. Same goes for ZZ in regards to watch vs skip.

Ignore this advice. Age is not good. It has good element's and parts, but overall is bad.

That zaku woah. Does it really look like that from the movies

That's from episode 15 of the TV series. It was notorious for some even dodgier-than-usual art, to the point that Tomino called it substandard and it's not included on some DVDs. It's a filler episode, where Amuro gets seperated on an island populated by some kids and a Zeon deserter (With Karate Zaku Action).

I swear I've seen somebody modified a HG/MG Zaku to look like this.

Watched the first 50 or so minutes of Mobile Suit Gundam I on my lunch break.

It hasn't aged as badly as I'd expected - the animation definitely has a certain charm to it, although the designs of the Gundam related vehicles definitely have a Sentai feel to them haha.

You can really see where all the tropes later down the line came from with this, it's quite interesting. It opens really similar to SEED if my memory serves me right.

Found a good ending point with Amuro fighting Char outside the colony and then returning to White Base and being given custody of the Gundam proper. Keen to see where this goes.

Might watch the Zeta series after these I guess.

Seed is a retelliing of 0079 in some ways and Seed Destiny is bastardized down syndrome Zeta.

Before watching Zeta, try to give it a go to" War in The Pocket", one of the best Ovas in the uc universe

I do think that, even if you start with the movie trilogy, it's worth watching the TV series of the original at some point. There's a lot more filler episodes, but I thought it did a better job of developing and showcasing the growth of its characters moreso than the movie, which only hits the major events.

I've only ever seen the original movie trilogy as opposed to the series, but I would try to watch the Zeta series instead of the movies. It's really great. Friends who have seen both series always tell me that Zeta has aged better than 0079.

The new animation clashing with the old in the Zeta movies is one of the most jarring thing ive ever seen.

Though there is 1 new scene in the moves i absolutely adore. When Kamille saves Fa they do this super awkward, helmets still on but still try to angle for a kiss thing...it's so so dumb but cute at the same time.

Kira will never rescue me from my wedding. The wedding rescue is one of his best moments and Freedom looked so amazing flying among the doves. One of my favorite Gundam Designs.

You shouldn't watch the older UC shows so that you can understand Unicorn. You should watch them because they're damned good shows in their own right. If you want to watch unicorn just watch unicorn.

UC Gundam is a journey. Why see Frodo throw the ring into Mt. Doom before he even meets the fellowship?

Because just like Banagher, Frodo is a boring and shitty you character so skip to the good stuff and enjoy that.
So to hell with him and his fellowship (0079, Zeta and Nina Purpleton) and just get the good bits.

Skip around I say!

But Zeta and Gundam 0079 aren't shit doe. Nina Purpleton is trash though with her selective amnesia. How do you not remember banging a guy like Gato and then the guy infiltrates your base?

I'd consider myself a big fan of Gundam, but I had watched Unicorn before watching Zeta and ZZ... and Igloo if you want to get dirty. It was really good even without all of the backstory filled in. That said, having since watched all the UC series/OVAs/etc. in chronological order, Unicorn was much better that time around.

she must watch ZZ

0083 is the greatest

Anybody watching ZZ for the first time can get away with skipping a couple of the first 15 or so eps. It's only really bearable the second time through cause you know where the show goes. The first time can be painful at times though.

I agree on 0083....ZZ and this bitch be ready to throw down.

Seriously though with how many people love Unicorn's awful Waifu ZZ should get more a push.

Shinn is so silly at times, when Athrun finally reaches Minerva and he says hes from Faith, then Shinn is all flustered and such, lol.

Also Phantom Pain always makes me laugh.

I mean, I've always wanted to get into the older stuff but it's fairly daunting being such a huge backlog. Unicorn has kind of given me a bit of a push which I think is more than fair.

Finished the first movie of the original MSG. I quite liked it. There were some twists I didn't see coming
Char betraying Garma was downright coldhearted.
Not sure how I feel about Amuro's character at the moment, but I guess this only covered the first 1/4 or so of the anime so we'll see where he goes from here.
