The Gundam |OT2| Another 5 years of Gunpla, Origins, and GUNDAMUUUU!

Is Victory the Gundam show where the most people die from the cockpit being targeted? Anybody else find it interesting that Katejina is the only person that tries to look out for Uso instead of just using him to aid their survival in the early episodes? She gets into actual arguments with people regarding how he's treated.

Might be, since they need ways to kill off people in a way that pushes Uso to PTSD that much quicker. And nuclear reactor shots are ridiculously huge in Victory too, so they usually do try and non-explosive kills.

And given how Katejina ends up, I wonder how much of that looking after Uso was because she legitimately cared or because she considered Uso "her's". Since some of the people she argued with did agree that she was correct about how forcing Uso to pilot wasn't right, but they really had no choice given the situation.

Yeah Uso and Katejina legit have the most unique relationship I can think of. She does tend to use Uso's crush on her against him in the later episodes though. She cared for the kid, but it eventually became so twisted.

He sees some pretty fucked up shit for a 13 year old. You know if you look at Chronicle as a person and not just another "Char clone" he's not too bad actually.
Wattary: "I'm fighting a fucking kid?! Fuck dis shit I'm out." It is pretty messed up how it's effecting the people of Zanscare more than the League Militaire. It's odd how with this rewatch I'm noticing and enjoying the Victory soundtrack a lot more, it's beautiful.
The Counts a bit fucked...
giphy.gif

Is it just me or does Rau kidnapping Flay and turning her into his prisoner kind of echo Chronicle with Katejina, though not was well done? Tassillo Vago sounds like an espresso company. Fuck these old ass men trying to force this 13 year old to kill people and then scolding him as well for not killing people. The child soldier aspects of Gundam seem a bit white washed after Victory cause they never really delved into this whole aspect of it in Gundam Wing. "Hey Uso come watch this man get beheaded." No wonder why Katejina didn't give a shit about the town getting carpet bombed.
Ep 8:

"We're not asking you to go out and kill people." You were literally just breaking his balls about him letting the enemy get away in the previous episode. Katejina finds the war machines beautiful, yeah...she's Dorothy Catalonia from Gundam Wing alright.

Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket

While I found it predictable near the end and sometimes I wasn't too invested. War in the pocket was a pretty decent OVA. The action was great, had a serviceable story, and managed to pull the heart strings near the end.

It's better than decent, but at least you're not a heartless monster.

Actually watched this last night with my friends. They were wanting to get into Gundam so this is one of the ones we watched in our marathon. Was with both Japanese and Canadian friends, they seemed to enjoy it and Al's insane spying lol. Then we watched Thunderbolt and everyone needed a drink after it haha. After that we just watched a few episode of the various series, IBO, 00, G, and what not so they could get a feel for it.

Reminded me how effing big this franchise is lol.

Oliver didn't just simply Bright Slap Uso, he fucking sent his ass flying. Did Lupe Cineu just have a drink with some guys and then shoot them for no damn reason? Shakti is clearly insane, just planting seeds in the middle of a chaotic warzone. You know Zanscare people may be crazy, but when they're not being depicted as military nut jobs they're actually quite nice. They seem to frown on kids being in the military and even take more lenient actions with them. Meanwhile the League Militaire just come off as the German army late into the war during like the 1945 period where they're using old men and kids to fight the war for them. Watching Fuala actually being nice to Suzy and the gang is actually pretty nice to see.

Well, League Militaire is technically just a bunch of civilians scrounging up whatever they have to fight back, because the Earth Federation is mostly just doing nothing while Zanscare invades. Gotta get whatever talent they can, even if it has to be retired seniors and children.

Watching AGE recently the first phase plot did remind me a lot of Victory. Flit is super young, the earth federation could not give a fuck about an alien invasion and a bunch of near enough civilians just fight them on their own.

Hell the planned series after VG was going to be an Earth versus Mars Colonists war. Luckily we got G Gundam instead. Just like after AGE we got Build Fighters.

They made a Gundam out of a box of scraps.... I must admit on this rewatch I'm actually liking the designs in Victory as hated as they are. I can actually see the evolution from the Shokew, Zolo's and Tomliat's so far. On top of this Uso is pretty resourceful as a pilot. Does anything go into why the Federation just stopped giving a fuck?

Since I could actually enjoy and be moved by the plot of Victory I'm going to say Victory is better than Age.

Victory looks better(Still has trash suit design though), flows better, and has by far and away better characters and general story. I don't like it, but it's better than AGE, especially part one, which is dreadful.

I actually don't mind Victory's suit designs this time around. There seems to be a logical evolution to them, ignoring the shit with wheels that's going to pop up eventually of course.

Next month I'm planning on watching Zeta Gundam in english for the first time and Gundam 00 Season 2, a season so bad I'm not entirely sure if I ever finished it.

You probably finished it, but you blocked out most of that shit like I did. I have all of 00 plus that accursed fucking movie on blu ray and dvd, haven't watched either since I bought them. I enjoy Victory more than a lot of post season 1 00. Lol at Uso getting pushed into Mahalia's cleavage with G Force acceleration. With as bad as Victory is supposed to be I still think it's better than a good amount of the Gundam I've seen, which is a lot of shows. I'd easily rank it above the Seed franchise and 00 franchise.

I loved SEED back when I saw it as a teenager. Somehow I don't think it would hold up that well today though.

How are you surviving Victory? Seed's OK, but I usually try to give Victory some credit for actually trying to be unique instead of being a rehash of 0079 like Seed is.

It's been okay so far, only have just over 15 episodes left. I don't feel as invested in at as the early UC stuff though.

Federation soldiers like Gomez literally had to take a leave of duty so they could fight alongside the League Militaire, so the higher ups were either too out-of-touch with how dangerous Zanscare was, or were bogged down with off-screen space politics. And when the EF did eventually start doing shit, they pretty much immediately accepted a ceasefire, which did nothing but let Zanscare build up their forces.

I mean, it's not the first time they did absolutely nothing for most of a conflict. A lot of stuff post-OYW is them not giving a fuck, like with the Titans, then Char's Neo Zeon, then Cosmo Babylonia. Zanscare was just another extension of that, where they only ever started taking action at the very end.

Then they're like the NUNS from Macross.
SEED is utter trash. Victory is a classic Tomino series. SEED is like a shitty cover band.
Victory is like Tomino fuckery at it's finest. Not slamming Turn A with this post since Turn A isn't Tomino fuckery.

What's the mental state of Katejina so far?

The attrition rate of the Shrike Team is fucking abysmal. Why did Tomino even bother giving them names. Helen and Mihalia so far have bit the dust. Could've been worse, Uso could've looked in the cockpit to see her remains. These bonding moments Uso has with the Shrike Team are simultaneously sweet and fucked up.

The same reason why most Zeon grunts get names or at least show cockpit explosions on death in other Gundam series. Every one of these pilots are people and deserve recognition as such, no matter what side of the conflict they are on. I love the Shrike team, even if they are mainly there to die. Uso might be one of the tragic protagonists in Gundam. He sees so many people die.

The Shrike Team adore Uso and he enjoys their company, it's just morbid though when you know what happens to most of them. Uso's seen far too much shit, though Uso does have the highest body count, which is scary. Down goes Kate, that's what 3 and they were introduced 4 eps ago? Sad thing is these aren't even the worst Shrike Team deaths. I wonder if Ramyeon has seen the most fucked up Gundam death yet? It's in Victory, I don't remember which ep it is in, but that shit's straight fucked the fuck up. I'm pretty sure everyone here knows which one I'm talking about.

My local B&N gets so much gundam stuff, and yes there is even gundam stuff in the clearance. Decided to get this for the week.

Welp, I know where I'm going today.

Earlier this year, I watched the three MSG movies. I bought the blu-ray of the actual season, and I'm going to start watching. I'm excited to see how much Amuro gets smacked.

Canadians burned my passport
Got a chance to go to Tokyo last month and the Gundam statue was everything I imagined and more. I now know how religious people feel when they go to Jerusalem or something.

I took like a billion pics of this beauty

Lol this shit with Fuala is hilariously fucked up!! "The ice cream is delicious isn't it. Your sentence is exile in space, your last meal is finished." That's some cold blooded shit.

I'm surprised she hasn't shown up again (At least not yet). That didn't feel like a death scene at all.

It was a rather horrific sentence. How batshit is Katejina so far and is Uso still looking for his parents? I'm trying to figure out how far you are from certain things.
Victory had one of the best soundtracks in the series.
Yes it did, it's serenely beautiful at times.

Fuala got launched into space like a fucking photon torpedo.

Uso'a mother just got squashed by the rear tire of one of those motorbike battleships and he brought back her squashed head in her helmet.

Kid can't catch a break.

That has got to be the most fucked up death in the Gundam franchise period. If there's another contender then somebody has to show it to me cause I will never forget that death.

So Uso just leaves those stranded dudes there some oxygen, but no food. So at best they live long enough to either starve to death or the surviving healthy guy ends up just eating his dead comrade to survive?

When watching Stardust Memory hearing that the RX-78GP02A "Unit 2" can be armed with tactical nuke along with it being stolen just makes me think about MGS 1 with REX. It also doesn't help that Gato looks a bit like Liquid.
