The Gundam |OT2| Another 5 years of Gunpla, Origins, and GUNDAMUUUU!

I enjoyed Destiny, a lot. I know I'm in a really small minority. I loved the characters and it has some of my favourite MS designs of the whole gundam universe. The IJ, the Legend, the Destiny and those reimagined UC suits, like the Zaku phantoms are amazing looking.(Even better then the originals IMO).

This is wild and I know I'll get flack for it, but I enjoyed Destiny way more then Z and ZZ. These 2 UC series have the most annoying characters I have ever witnessed in my gundam watching experience(everything watchable legally here)and they made the shows worst because of it.

Hate my opinion, but this is my honest opinion. I'm ready to be exiled from this thread now.

Eh I'm not going to hate it but your opinion confuses me.

At least Zeta and ZZ have consistent writting for the most part.

Athrun fully resets and it's hard to take seriously when he acts like he's been lobotomized.

Same for Kira who goes from love or hate but some lvl of character to completely one note.

Don't get me wrong I like SEED more then Zeta as I think Kamille is barely better then Shinn but I just dont see how one could really look at Destiny aside from Mecha and Music and say it stands up to any Gundam positively that isn't Gundam AGE.

I finished building two legs this week of a gundam exia that I've been building since 2009 this week and I'm exhausted.

I've only got the waist and some weapons to go and I know if I don't finish it before I go back to work in a couple weeks It'll be another multi year haitus.

I'm wondering how much I can blame my friend for letting me buy 5 more of these things when we were in japan last month.

Also gubdan markers ate horrible for large pieces, just a streaky ass mess, well at least the The exia comes with like 5 other swords.

I just like Destiny's characters more, Kira's god mode never bothered me and Athrun fully resetting either, which I honestly barely saw any proof of. If it weren't for Quattro and Scirocco, Zeta would have my most hated cast. I can easily say that at the very least Destiny is better for me then Z, ZZ, G Reco and 00.

Also I liked AGE lol, and aside from the the last part from Kio's story, it was really enjoyable. So yea.

Hey we all like what we like.

I think Episode 1-5 Heero is the most unique and best Gundam lead the series has ever had.

Jumping from Igloo to 0080 was a massive shift, but one he really appreciated. Ultimately he seemed to really enjoy all six episodes, but had a few issues in the end. Bernie's speech about "don't hate feddies for mah death" he felt didn't came across as part of Bernie's character and for some reason he continues to feel like 0080 is aimed at children, although he seems to generally feel like most of Gundam is aimed at kids (10-15 I guess? He always gets a bit wishy washy when I ask what he thinks the target audience is.)

Personally I've never felt like 0080, or any of the OVA Gundams were specifically aimed at younger audiences. Maybe the mainline series is more teen oriented, but I don't feel like the others (OVAs specifically) have quite as narrow a focus. Especially 0080 which I've always felt was the more 'realistic'/'adult' of the Gundam series, taking the situation very seriously.

Anyway, now we're moving onto Thunderbolt. We watched the first 15 minutes until he nearly nodded off. He's having trouble distinguishing the difference between Feddie pilots and Zeon pilots now, before it was mobile suits, now it's pilots. I wish I knew what was causing him such a struggle.

whats so bad about destiny?
It's shit. The reverse on Athrun's character development from Seed, Kira's a tosser, Shinn's a fucking crusty shit stain, it's just not the best...don't even get me started on Stella...ugh half ass Four Murasame, but done in a bad art style.
Is it just me or does Zeta look a million times better than ZZ?
I honestly think ZZ went too hard in the paint with the 80's character designs. I think Zeta struck a better balance. The 80's cast is still pretty 80's looking, but it's not obnoxious about it, ZZ on the other hand is. From Roux's hair, Judau's red jacket to fucking Chara who likes like Siouxsie Sioux did her make up job.

Gundam the Origin IV - Eve of Destiny

This was really, really good as an adaptation of the lead in to the First Year War in Gundam, but at the same time it is a pretty odd and terrible climax to what was originally billed as the Char and Sayla origin story. I not intimately familiar with the manga material, so I don't know if it does the same thing, but for something that started so strongly in the first two installments showing the closeness of the siblings and how they eventually got separated by the growing conflict and their different ideologies, it's odd the in the last two installments there's pretty much nothing about Sayla at all. In fact this final episode doesn't have any Sayla in it at all. It feels more like a split origin between Char and Amuro as they are moved into place to inherit their destined roles at the start of the original Gundam.

I love the way Origin is directed though. The operatic style with exaggerated character movements and expressions, big movements accompanied with a bombastic score. Everything is larger than life and feels mythical and important. The character animation is really good too. There still isn't any CG action sequence so far that tops the opening moments of the first episode though. Maybe in the next arc they can show off some of that.

The only other surprising thing about Origin IV is how it seems that the director Imanishi has been completely scrubbed from the credits. It's really odd given how he co-storyboarded the previous 3 episodes, only to be completely missing here. In fact the episode doesn't even have a main directed credited at all, simply crediting Yasuhiko as chief director as usual. The only storyboard credit is for Yasuhiko too. I wonder what happened there... :p

That Providence looks fantastic. So fantastic that I'm a little afraid it won't look nearly that good fresh OOB. The cone dragoons are my biggest concern - They have tiny barrels everywhere. Molding those into separate parts or making the armor pieces lay on top of them looks demanding from a design standpoint.

Never mind that though.

Did you guys see the promo picture below it:

Look. It's the Justice. In the same, new style as the Freedom 2.0. MG Justice confirmed (clearly).

With that backpack Providence could have made for a cool MS but I just find it so boring. Sad.

And Beth must be happy about MG ZZ Ver.KA.

Watching these early episodes of victory gundam again...

it's hard watching scenes with katejina, knowing what she becomes. She's a victim.

TURN A GUNDAM #19 Sochie's War

Less time with Sochie please, the reparing of White Doll and battle with the two legged scarecrows and seeing lt. poe lose yet again would have been so good without Sochie getting in the way.

I missed harry being in action too.

Victory 19-25

These battles were pretty fantastic, which is something Victory is pretty consistent on since the start. Uso is still having a hard time killing people and the representation they did with that scream was really good.

I liked how the victory's backpack suddenly got repaired super quick between 2 scenes, I guess they had those tolls, but I was actually surprised. The colony escape part that came afterward was reallt nice.

Also since Connie talked a lot, I was so sure she would die, but nope she survived so far.

Shakhti's relationship with her mother is kinda weird and the moments around those 2 are kinda meh so far.

Gundam the origin iv..

Pretty good. Interesting that they cut out some of the amuro story but I'm okay with that.

This definitely would have been a bad place to leave it. Glad they're doing loum.

When's the next episode?

Moriguchi should sing every UC theme. It's the right thing.

Ceallach

Smells like fresh rosebuds
Legend and Providence are both ugly af. There are so many great suits untouched and we still keep getting seed trash.

There are two more episodes announced right now. The Battle of Loum is Fall 2017. Birth of the Red Comet is 2018.

Agreed, but at least its not another Strike Freedom.

On the fence about that MG ZZ though. As much as I hated most of ZZ and the general design of the thing is nonsense and looks cheap/fisher pricey. It's head is one of my favorite designs in Gundam... But yeah feel like I'll skip it.

Partly cause I voted for God Gundam on the poll haha. Rewatching G is amazing all over again.

I thought all the options were UC for the .info poll.

Cool they had God listed.

hory shit this is never going to end.

This will basically be the end of The Origin exclusive material. After the battle of loum, they'll kind of either have to commit to a full reboot of 0079 or end it.

I really hope they go for broke and remake the whole thing, but that might be better to spin into a TV series than a set of OVAs. You want to see something last forever, a remake OVA set would take ages.

Theatrical TV run ala Yamato and GuP Final.
