The Gundam |OT2| Another 5 years of Gunpla, Origins, and GUNDAMUUUU!

So I'm finally watching Zeta Gundam in earnest for basically the first time, sort of I started a long time ago got up to episode 20 and stopped for some reason, so now I read up on what happens until then somewhat and continued. I'm on episode 27 right now and the only thing I have to say so far is: Everybody's got the hots for Emma, Katz is a little shit, and Jerid is an idiot. Also, because of Corvo I'll keep calling the guy with the O on his hair Papsmear Sriracha, which sounds horrible but it makes me giggle.
Everybody loves Emma Sheen:

Captain Henken is just too fucking thirsty.

Emma is cute as hell, can't even deny it. Also Jamaican as a name is probably one of the best Tominoisms I've seen until now. I couldn't stop laughing at it.

I just ordered Vol 1-3 of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin. I'm not sure why since I'm watching 0079 and it'll be tough to go through them at the same time.

You should have just bought all of them. I love the original 0079, but The Origin is just superior in every way.

The absolutely beautiful hardcovers help a little bit too.

UC Gundam? Or specifically Tomino shows? Yeah, it's either that or Turn A.

G Gundam has the best names period though.
I guess UC. Seed/Seed Destiny had god damn alphabet soup names, Turn A's were pretty cool too though. I really need to do a rewatch of G Gundam.

Between him, Jamitov Hymen and Quattro Bajeena Zeta probably had the best names.
Makes me wonder if Tomino just pulls out an english dictionary flips to a random page and points to any word regardless of meaning to use for the name. The pronunciation can come later.

I mean Schwarz Bruder and Chibodee Crocket are amazing but aside from them which others stand out on the same level as Jamaican?

I'm planning on it! They're pretty large so I thought the first 3 would keep me busy. Is there a deal on getting them all as a set somewhere?

Master Asia while amazing doesn't count!

Chico is a normal name, I can believe Wong Yunfat too and Natasha Zabigov. Everything else is good but I don't think it approaches Jamaican or Quatro Bajeena levels of hilariously dubious. Chibodee Crocket is probably my favorite of the overly stereotypical names though. It's perfectly crafted in it's absurdity and MURRICAness.

I have it with like 90% of the cast of Turn A. None of them are Four Vaginas bad but this is a quantity argument with this particular show.

Sweatson Stero?

Agrippa Maintainer?

Gym Ghingnham?

Is there a good resource for Gunpla? One where I can search for mobile suit to find all kits and how recently they released? I can search stores' listings, but I was wondering if there was a good database or wiki for it. I think I want to ease into building by making a RX-79 Ground Type or RX-79-Ez8 and want to see what grades exist and release date. Someone mentioned the newer the kits the better. Is there a specific period of time where they started to get good such as, "Don't by kits before 2008"?

You can find all brands of kits with release dates here. I guess kits start to become really good by 2005, though you can still buy kits from before, but just make sure it doesn't have any big problems. I often say to buy new kits because htey're less frustrating to work with, especially if you're new to building kits. Besides even modern kits can suffer from issues. Sometimes they'll even release a new kit that recycles most of its parts from an old kit so the same problems return.

I think the EZ-8 has a new HG kit so you can pick that up if you're just starting.

I disregard 00 because I wanted more comically bad names, not straight up awful ones. Lyle and Neal Dylandy are alright though, but SUMERAGI LEE NORIEGA and SETSUNA F. SEIEI are grating.

Ribbons might be the least intimidating name for a villain I've ever heard.

But Ribbons is such a lame villain it suits him.

I'm getting pretty antsy to building some HGs after my tools get here. SDs are cool but I'm ready for something more intricate.

I can't believe it took me this long to realize Ramba Ral from MSG is the inspiration for Mr. Ral from Build Fighters.

Ramba Ral was a cool foe. Sad to see him finally die.

Dude looks like the short haired male version of C.C. from Code Geass.

I thought his Gouf car made it obvious, cool character though.

Due to the animes existing in the Build Fighters universe, I like to imagine that some guy liked the anime and that character so much he dedicated his entire life to being him. I like to imagine he got his name changed to Ral and goes through lengths to keep the same physique and be as close to Ramba as possible. The biggest of Gundam fan.

Finally a return to finish up the Wing EW suits? Nice. I really want to be able to buy a full set of the guys from the OVA. I always dug those designs.

PG Unicorn Banshee looks sexy as hell. Assuming I skipped the LED Kit this time (which I totally would) the price isn't bad. Unicorn was a fun as hell build as well, except for installing the LEDs. I may pick it up sometime. I probably won't get a PG again until next year, but Banshee and Red Astray are both very tempting options.

This is completely in-character for Mr. Ral.

Also, these later episodes with Lalah are making me trip balls. Like goddamn, the ending to 2001: A Space Odyssey wasn't this psychedelic.

Welcome to Newtypes. Things just get crazier from here. I had a really hard time following Newtype shenanigans when the UC timeline got deep into it. Hell, I watched all of the UC shows and still only have a basic grasp of what they are. From what I gather Newtypes have the ability to learn quickly, have very good reflexes/combat ability, and some level of psychic powers.

Amazon has a number of them for like $15 off retail price(which is like $30 I think), but Vector hasn't finished them all just yet. They're currently on volume X, with two more to go.

My favorite source is this guy right here. It's all in Korean but since it's gunpla, you'll get a good idea about everything from the very extensive amount of photos available. My favorite part about that site though is that everything is out of box, which is important if you're lazy like me and your idea of finishing a kit is lining, decaling, and matte-coating it. Unless it needs paint.

The rule of avoid pre-2008 kits is debatable. Obviously if you don't mind completely painting kits and leaving them in brick poses it's a silly rule that you can ignore. There's a couple of recent kits(MG Unicorn Unicorn) that are still bricks and a couple of older kits that are pretty much ready for coating and action posing(MG God/Master Gundams). The technology and engineering used in newer kits is great too, but sometimes you get ones that are way too complicated and you can't do anything other than stand them up(MG Nu 2.0 and every Real Grade). Where to start depends on your preferred universe(if you have one) and how comfortable you feel with plamo in general. Personally I'd recommend starting at either the XXXG line kits(Gundam Wing) or the GAT-X line(SEED) kits. They're all just really well made and really pleasant builds. Or you could do the right thing and do all three Tallgeese kits like me.

Finishing MSG, it's really a show that aged better than I would have thought. The final battle is completely badass (I love how all the major vehicles and mobile suits get absolutely wrecked), and the pacing doesn't feel like it suffers at all despite being a 35 year old show. Only disappointing part about the final battle is that Char didn't paint the Zeong red.

Guess who makes it to Sanq Kingdom in time in GoL?

388AwFwl.jpg

The chapter is basically just Zechs fucking up some Virgos. And finally someone uses the WZ EW wings as shields.

Next chapter should be Zero vs. Epyon.

Use this site too. Lets you know exactly what you are getting into before buying, without having to only rely on stock photos. Even without knowing Korean.

I'm so in love with the quality of these. I cannot wait to finish 0079 so I can dive into these and collect the rest.

4xMQykxl.jpg

I also want to try out Gunplay and purchased this and the following equipment to start out:
RX-78-2 Gundam Animation Color
Xacto X3311 N0. 1 Precision Knife With 5 No. 11 Blades
ALVIN® Professional Cutting Mats-CUTTING MAT GRN/BLK 18x24
Sakura 30062 6-Piece Pigma Micron Ink Pen Set, Black
Xuron 410 Micro-Shear Flush Cutter
3M(TM) Wetordry(TM) Sandpaper, 03006, 3-2/3 in x 9 in, Assorted

I might pick up some clear coat, styrofoam block, bamboo sticks and alligator clips from a local shop, but I'm not sure if this kit is worth clear coating.

Just finished sanding my Dahack. That took longer than expected. Now to figure out how to go about paining it. I'm even thinking of covering its eyes with putty so it looks like it has a visor.
