The Gundam |OT2| Another 5 years of Gunpla, Origins, and GUNDAMUUUU!

None of these responses give me any confidence. I lost a bet and have til June to finish this show. I'll just take the L and detail my disappointment at a later date.

Watch as many as possible to get the pain over quicker. I've watched it at least four times. Yeah it's shit and Shinn...well I don't have nice words for Shinn, but at least the OST is nice. Do you have to watch all of the clip show eps too?

If you're talking about episodes where it's just flashbacks the entire time, than yes I have to watch those as well. My punishment is the "entirety"of Seed Destiny.

The only thing I liked from Seed Destiny were the return of the Newtype flash and the voice actors for Char and Kycillia Zabi. Everything else was a completely misdirected shitshow, guided by petty grudges and over corrections to fan response.

You got off easy. He could have made you watch Gundam AGE.

EDIT: Quick question, are you watching the HD Remaster or the original? If it's the original, skip episode 50 and watch Final Plus instead. You can thank me later.

Then watch Stargazer and lament over what Destiny could have been.

We made a bet about the NBA playoffs on who would advance between the Clippers and Jazz before game 1 was played. I clearly lost and am being punished. If my friend lost his punishment was gonna be G-Reco.

P.S. I'm watching the HD remaster.

I would take 25 episodes of G-Reco over 50 goddamn episodes of Destiny any day of the week

Destiny was serviceable if you liked the Freedom (Shinn fight was bullshit).

Can't even watch G-Reco for more than 3 episodes; I'd rather watch Gundam X...

edit:
Freedom is actually my favorite Gundam. God bless Bandai for the 2.0 release:

I actually lost the cheek vent piece on this one when I took it apart. Like any sane person, what I did was I bought another one. Couldn't sleep with the thought that I have an imperfect Freedom with me...

I used to think so as well but looking back on it, that was one of the few scenes in Destiny that was actually somewhat decent. Shinn pushed the Impulse to its absolute limit and used it to its full potential. I mean, he managed to pressure Kira so hard he actually tried to kill Shinn out of sheer desperation.

Hmm...I have to check which Freedom kit I have.
Why not use an RG Freedom while you're at it

Eh, it was still mostly plot armor though. Kira could have stopped targetting the head/limbs and started shooting at the body mass and Shinn would have died then and there. The last slash to the mid-section was so contrived as well, since Kira has been shown to surgically dismember other mobile suits in a single pass.

That was actually one of the few okay parts of the show. Shinn did his research and formulated a battle plan that actually worked. Unfortunately, it's also the point in the show where it completely goes off the rails and Jesus Yamato was reborn as our lord and savior.

Because I have enough kits on my hands to last a goddamn lifetime. Also my Freedom is the HGCE one. I guess I will use the METEOR Freedom as practice since I've never painted/lined a kit.
I've been sitting on those for so long that by the time I get to them their HGCE counterparts will come out :(

Jesus Yamato was reborn as our lord and savior.

AMEN!

Shinn is a god damn clown. Athrun and that Orb Colonel who went down with the ship are the only redeeming things so far out of the 30 episodes I've watched.

P.S. I'm tired of seeing this face

Oh man, if you're tired of his raging manchild face already, you'd better have some alcohol nearby for the coming episodes.

Just tried using primer for a gunpla paint job and holy shit, this stuff is awesome! The first pass already looks better than even two passes without primer.

Destiny is pure beauty on television. Two trains set on the same train, neither aware that the other is heading right for them. Both filled with highly volatile explosives.

I actually just rewatched Destiny recently haha. other than the soundtrack (which is absolutely incontestably superb) I think that it is possibly the most wasted potential of any Gundam show. It knows everything it wants to do and all the points it wants to hit, it just can't seem to ever find it's feet and execute it competently.

I think the opening premise is really, really strong. Orb's destruction in SEED was a big plot point but showing the real personal impact of that event on Shinn was a great idea. Sometimes in Gundam the combat and the action and the cool impacts and stuff make you forget the people who have their lives utterly destroyed by the "good" actions of our protagonists. And that further tied into the entire premise of Orb doing everything in their power to stop that ever occurring again, defying their principles and their honour and everything we as the audience say is "right".

But instead of showing the strong-headed, assertive, tomboyish Cagalli work within that framework and national trauma caused by her father's principles, they decide to utterly decimate her character and hand her the biggest idiot ball I have ever seen. Like seriously even if we ignore all the stupidity that came before it, the whole jumping into the battlefield and trying to talk Orb into stopping is seriously the stupidest thing I can imagine. AND THE SHOW KNOWS THIS! Athrun's exasperated cries for them to go back to Orb are echoed by the audience but the show refuses to make up an answer as to why they wont. And the problem is that it isn't an isolated incident, again and again the show sets up an interesting moral/emotional conundrum and then absolutely flubs it's way through it.

I am emotionally invested in the characters they built in SEED, the show is great at setting the mood with great music and lighting, and the main plot points are pretty well thought out (Stolen suits, Junius 7 colony drop, War restarts, Orb loses neutrality, etc.) but the actual storytelling is so bad most of the time that you can't help but get annoyed.

One thing to finish off is that I really like how SEED/Destiny treats the mental/emotional health of their characters. To often TV treats war and the actions in it as barely consequential other than death/injury. But with SEED you see Kira crying, getting mixed up with Flay, sleeping in his machine - all things done to specifically clue us into the impact that the battles are having on his mental health. In Destiny we have Shinn who mentally scarred by his experiences, and something I only caught in the rewatch is that I am pretty sure that Kira is depressed at the start of Destiny. People often take his reluctance to kill people as a super arrogance, but I think what they wanted was to show that the mental impact of killing people is so great on Kira that he simply can't do it. He locks the Freedom away and gives the keys to Lacus and has to practically beg her to let him fight again. Often fighting, being the hero and coming home alive is shown to be the absolute best but I think showing a character reluctant to fight and angry that it's all they are good at was well done with both Athrun and Kira.

All this SEED talk makes me want to rewatch it at some point. Literally the only two things I remember from it involve Athrun. Athrun stealing the Aegis, Athrun beating Kira's ass with it, using the capture mode at the last second, about to melt Kira's face off, running out of energy and without a second though turning on the self-destruct, and bailing out. One of the best moments in a Gundam imo just cause the sheer (I'm a better fighter than you-ness of it all.)

Then Destiny Athrun
bodying Shinn instantly when he tried to get uppity in the Destiny against Infinite Justice. Cut his sword, leg, and arm off. Instead of killing him,
just lets his ass crash into the moon and gives him the best "your a fucking joke" look
from the gundam and flys off
WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING. Might be one of my favorite Gundam moments ever because it could have easily been ruined with a speech or anime one liner.

Spoilers cause the person watching Destiny at the moment. No one needs this glorious moment ruined imo.

Athrun is the best.

Also feel like I need to rewatch it cause despite having the MG Providence to make, I seriously cannot remember it hahaha.

-oh- and I started my Patlabor this weekend since my nose sorta stopped running from my cold. Man.... I popped the box got the runners out, looked in the manual... this thing has like 30 metal screws and nuts in it!? How!? WHY!? I mean it seems to be making it really tight and stable, almost no wobble so far, but even without them it feels like they are not needed. Also the build order in the manual is all over the place and not marked (arms, legs ect.). Arms first, then the feet...body to put it all together last lol...

Won't be soon for me. Started Turn-A for the first time last night.

Man... that late 90's animation, soooooo good. Ended up watching the first 7 episodes in one go. Moving very slow and I assume in typical Gundam fashion it will just pull the "oh yeah we gotta end this" and start going fast out of nowhere. Also Sochie is the typical 90's anime busybody girl and her lines/way of thinking or lack there of are just... "so anime" shes been the only sore spot in what has so far been extremely interesting. Love the 1920's era USA vs. space idea.

Also that opening song, has no idea what genre it wants to be lol.

Reminds me so much of G-Reco (which I still have not finished) but you know... in reverse, and watchable. There is a fare bit of "the characters were thinking/learned this thing between episodes... we did not show it, or mention it, but they kinda said something so put it together that they know it now and roll with it while we do this thing now" but its not nearly as off putting. And no character personality changes between scenes like G-Reco.

lol Getting all my friends to ride the AGE train with me.

Also, the AGE-1 MG is now my go-to recommendation for beginners looking to jump into the MG line.
It's such a wonderful build!
Except the shoulder pads which are wobbly and feel weak without extra support on the bar that gives it a hinge motion.

Athrun
beating Shinn while covered in blood and bandages is great, Shinn was never on his level. Shinn only won once cause Athrun was in a Gouf and getting double teamed.

Finally finished my rewatch of Gundam Wing. It was a little better than the last time I watched it. Certain events stuck out to me as at least decently entertaining, but I still find the total pacifism tint to make barely any sense, especially towards the end of the series. Also there's so much side switching, I'd forgotten how many different factions and instances of people switching allegiances there are in this.

Anyway I need to find the time to do a rewatch of 8th MS team, get through Transformers Headmasters and then I'll finally watch Gundam X, which I haven't seen in like 15 years and never saw more than six episodes of.

Also as far as subjecting my father to Gundam has gone: He's now on Gundam Unicorn with just five episodes left. He thought Zeta was okay. Felt it was a lot of good ideas executed poorly. Double Zeta was straight up bad for him. CCA was better, but again, good ideas done bad, and finally Unicorn has been, on a whole, an improvement.

Just passed the halfway mark of Seed Destiny. Please tell me it gets better.

Late but...nope. It actually has a decent start but then devolves into a complete train wreck by the end. Shinn and all the other new characters are completely wasted. I've heard the movie versions are somewhat of an improvement but I've never seen them.

As a staunch Athrunist I can never kneel at the altar of Jesus Yamato.

someone needs to make an Athrun savior avatar, better person to follow.

AGE 1 MG is indeed great, first MG I got after being away a few years and was surprised at how much had changed. The small grills being actual openings instead of just paint are great.

AGE 2 sadly isn't nearly as good.

And worst of all AGE 3 MG doesn't and probably will never exist...

Orb wasted too much gold building Akatsuki. Also this whole Shinn/Lunamaria fling is ridiculous.

"Hey I just murdered your sister. I'm sorry, now give me those cheeks" -Shinn. Shoulder to cry on, dick to ride on was in full effect for that garbage.
