Just paid for my MG Altron at N-Y. Forgot that thing is coming so soon. It's probably gonna get here before my Akatsuki that shipped more than a month ago, haha. That's what you get for cheaping out and picking SAL.

Started building a HG GM Custom. First kit I've build in 14 years. Building has been going semi-smoothly. I'm having trouble sanding down the sprues so that they aren't visible. I get them mostly gone, but I can't seem to get rid of them. I have 1000 and 2000 grade sand paper. Panel lining hasn't been too bad, but I don't have the steadiest of hands and I tend to have to fix my lining a lot. I've had 2 moments of panic so far. First was when I was using one of those larger red Gundam markers to color the verniers. It ended up bleeding into the line between too panels. In my rush to clean it up I ended up smearing red marker over one side of the panel, haha. Luckily it wasn't hard to clean it up. Second was when I was trying to place the rear camera decal. That thing was tiny as hell and in an awkward position. When placing the decal it decided to pop up and vanish into the abyss that is my carpet. I had to cut out the surrounding green on the decal sheet and make a makeshift camera. Turned out better than I thought it would.

Building these models is fun as hell.

Is Gundam Igloo and the Gundam Evolve shorts worth watching? They aren't long, so I guess I might as well watch them, but I'm curious on the general opinions on them, especially since I never see anyone talk about these.

If y'all are into mobile games, Super Gundam Royale just came out for iOS and Android. Did the OT here: http://neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1126664

It's pretty damn fun if you're into stuff like OPTC, Record Keeper, and Dokkan Battle.

I really liked the first two Zeon-based Igloo OVA series. The focus on (mostly) non-mobile suit engineering struggling to stay relevant during the OYW was neat to watch, and the cast, while not anything amazing, were entertaining and sympathetic enough to want to follow through the six episodes. Just regular soldiers doing their duty. I thought the CG looked pretty good as well, especially during the Zudah episode.

Igloo 2 was weird. On the surface, I liked watching the exchanged with how the Federation fought against Zakus before GMs and mobile suits were standard deployment, but everything else about it was weird as fuck, especially the supernatural elements. And the lack of a consistent cast throughout the series made it hard to care for more than just the spectacle.

Worth checking out.

Use a hobby knife to remove excess plastic before sanding it. Just be careful not to cut the piece itself. I'm having trouble with that myself. Been cutting too much from the Dom. Maybe I should switch my knife.

I've actually stopped using my hobby knife as much. I keep getting the white marks caused by plastic strain when using my hobby knife. It is a new knife too so maybe I'm just using it wrong. Instead of the hobby knife, I've been using the nippers to remove the excess plastic. I place the nippers close to the surface of the piece then quickly and forcefully clip the excess off. If I do it slower it leaves the white strain mark as well, but when done quickly I've been able to sand it down to near invisible levels.

I use gundam markers of the same colors to cover any nub marks. It works great and hardly noticeable.

That's a good idea. How does the black marker hold up on the dark grey plastic that is used for hands and what not? I only have the panel lining marker and the basic set of markers. Sadly the standard markers aren't too helpful for the GM Custom. I've used the red marker to make the thrusters and verniers more interesting and the black for where the hand connects to the arm. The larger markers bleed like crazy. Had a panic attack when I accidently smeared the red marker all over the backpack and some of it bled between two panels. Had to pop it open and use alcohol to remove all the excess ink that went everywhere. Luckily this stuff comes off fairly easily.

I hated igloo so much. The Zudah episode was good though.

Get a good pair of snippers and cut the sprue so that it is a few mm from being flush with the surface of the part. This leaves some room in case the snippers are dull and/or leave stress marks. When first removing the part from the sprue, try not to cut too close.

Then get a small plastic file and use it to slowly remove the remaining few mm of sprue from the part, until the area is smooth. If you don't go overboard, it should appear as though the sprue was never there. If you still see discoloration, then you probably cut too close or your snippers are too dull.

This process takes more time than a hobby knife, but should damage the part less. Might be preferable for locations that are externally visible once assembled.

Hmm, so it seems liek Strike Rouge has one of Freedom's side guns on one side of the back and one of Freedom's heavy guns on the other side.

Fuck, I NEED the Strike Rouge Ootori. The best thing in all of Destiny was seeing Kira go nuts in Stirke to get to S. Freedom. I love to see ace pilots do great things in grunt suits. I wish it would happen more often. Athrun did well in the Zaku warrior in the first episode... although Gouf didn't go so well for him, lol.

Still now Akatsuki? Damn, I got mine in less than 2 weeks with SAL Registered included...

I hope it works out for you, I have never had to wait that long for a package...

The Strike Rouge Ootori has asymmetrical guns yeah.

It kind of bothered me so I repainted them and the Blue Anti Ship Sword too.

Strike Rouge Ootori looks great with crimson panel line/wash.

Less than a month until this HG comes out...

Horrifying.

I only got one because it might actually be rarer than the HG Nobel Gundam and even HG AGE suits.

This thing sold out in less than and hour each time it showed up on a hobby store website.

Man, good luck trying to find that one. That has 'sold out' written all over it.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DGN8640/?tag=neogaf0e-20

I have no reason NOT to buy it, except I'm out of room to display the shit! If it's still in stock, I'll get it for a Thanksgiving build.

Strike OOtori... you should have been the final mobile suit for Kira instead of that boring ass 1-man armada.

To be fair Cagali and Mu La Flaga deserves it. It's better than being owned by Flay.

The Strike Rouge Ootori is bigger than the other Strike variants only cause the backpack takes the most space.

I think Kira used it to get S. Freedom, but I can't remember, It could have been just a regular Strike. Definitely didn't have the Ootori pack. It just sucks Cagalli did so little with it.

So the Z-Gundam just appeared in Zeta Gundam... It was only in ship mode so I'm hoping there is a better reveal for it in the next episode because that was pretty underwhelming.

Cagalli was my favorite character in SEED, and I was so excited that she had Strike Rouge but yeah, they didn't do much with her at the end.

Cagali traded in her Strike Rouge for the Akatsuki Gundam.

Then gave that to Mu La Flaga.

Cagali's suits are my favourite in the SEED series other than maybe Red Dragon and Destiny Astray Outframe/Testament.

Did Zeonic just skip 10 chapters in Beltorchika's Children?

His current plan (or at least, the thing he's saying he's going to do. Can't be too sure he'll stick with anything) is to translate everything in Gundam Ace as it comes out and go back to fill in the missing pieces in the down time.

I'd rather him sit on it and mass release when things are filled in, honestly. I'm not the one doing it though.

I finished the building of my RX-78 HG. I just need to finish panel lines (his head, upper body and right arm are done) and throw on a top coat.

I think I'm going to do an RG Zeta next.

I'm pretty sure that the RG Zeta is one of the most fragile and finicky kits, which is made worse by the fact that it's a RG so there's a ton of tiny parts. It looks great when it's done but you have to be careful.

I can vouch for this, it's ridiculously fragile. I personally just leave mine in Waverider mode because it's just more stable than MS mode.

As for what I just finished (pardon my shitty phone camera):

Easy for an RG IMO, but a fun kit nonetheless. Really good looking in person, makes me wish they'd just had Blue Frame as a regular release alongside this ala the two MK-II versions.

Damn, I keep hearing this, but more about how it breaks easily if you transform it and I just told myself I'd keep it in MS mode.

My original idea was to try to build all the mainline Gundams one way or another and this RX-78 was my first real attempt (I built this previously which I don't think counts). I told myself I'd do one more cheaper kit before going to MG, which I really want to be Strike or Strike Rouge. I guess I could do a RX-78 mk2

I'm finishing up a GM Custom for my first model. I'm going to jump into the MG RX-78-2 right after if I don't get my HG Ez8 in first. I have a similar plan of making a kit for my favorite suit(s) for each series.

Very nice! I'm planning on starting the PG of it after I finish the RG Exia. Which by the way is much better building it and just overall compared to the MG.

That's good to know. I built the MG quite a few years ago (Ignition Mode I think the version with the repair parts was called), I recall not being terribly impressed with it.

Sadly I don't have the kit anymore, it got thrown out with a few other old MGs when my old house got foreclosed on. (Well, ones I left willingly because they had been broken at some point. Unicorn ver. Ka, Infinite Justice, Freedom were the others.)

For some reason I had taken the GN Drive with me when I moved. Now it's all I have left of it XD

Yeah, the RG is miles above the MG. The translucent bands are thinner making them easier to handle when you're inserting them in when it was absolutely frustrating with the MG. And having the bands bend easily in the RG makes articulation with the arms easier while the bands on the MG actually downright hinder arm movement.

You actually might want to built a MG before trying a RG. Real Grades have a lot of detail in a small package and, as much as I love them, can be some of the most frustrating builds. It's worth the hassle normally, but like I said before you have to deal with a lot of small parts, and they take more time than you would think. You should also still built the RG Zeta just be careful with it and maybe build a different RG first, for example the Strike RG is a great kit imo and it's pretty easy by real grade standards.

Also good job on your rx-78-2 it looks nice.

That looks really good. Did you find those free floating shoulder pieces weird too? And it sucks that the Blue Frame is pretty much always going to be a P-Bandai kit.

Yeah, they were so loose I thought I'd put it together wrong somehow. After I couldn't figure it out, I decided to just continue and discovered that the shoulder armor is what keeps it in place.

Also, my grey lining on the white parts looks thick because the marker tip is getting frayed. Pic I took with flash on to show off my shitty panel lining:

I found that taking a q-tip to the panel linings as i'm doing it, thins them out. Not sure if it works after it's dried for awhile.

Just over halfway through Turn A (first viewing since watching it in the early 2000s), and it's so damn good. It's my wife's first time watching it and she's really into it too. So many characters to like, and the mobile suits! Kapool is a supporting MS in the box art of at least two common HG kits, yet it still doesn't have its own HG version. I built one in an older kit and love it so much I bought another. Same with the Flat and Sumo. It seems like we're bound to see these all get the HG treatment at some point, but it couldn't happen soon enough.

Also, Iron Blooded Orphans has me hooked already. I'm hoping some of the things that happened so far carry weight and aren't just for shock value. I'm also warming up to the Barbatos a bit, but that damn V-fin is the worst. Almost as bad at Age's spoiler.
