The Gundam |OT2| Another 5 years of Gunpla, Origins, and GUNDAMUUUU!

I'm trying to get through Naruto

You are a better man than I. I thought I was hardcore watching all of Endless Eight in Haruhi... I don't think I'll ever touch Naruto/Bleach/One Piece just due to how many episodes I'd need to watch to catch up @_@

IBO is on my to do list at least, but times a rather rare commodity for me now. How is it? I heard good things.

I saw up to episode 11 before my Internet got cut off, I thought it was pretty good. Definitely more character-centric than recent Gundam shows imo.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Some people are getting a bit pissed with it lately, due to some clunky plot decisions, but I've been watching it weekly and really enjoy it. It has a nice bit of humor in it too which I think helps balance out some of the weaker plot points, and the characters are all pretty cool and the show does a good job at dividing up the screentime.

But yeah, there's long gaps without a single Gundam battle which is interesting. I remember some of the classic shows, like Zeta, would have a fight in every episode even if it didn't make much sense...I guess that's part of the advertisement element of the show, you gotta showcase the mechas every episode to sell toys, but IBO seems like it aims a bit higher age-wise so they have reduced that element substantially.

Speaking of, I'm a horrible person because I made a friend sit through Endless Eight with me.

I haven't managed to catch up on IBO just yet, but I've enjoyed what I've watched. It's different, but not a bad different.

Also no beam weaponry, which is a nice change of pace.

Oh god if you want to read honest opinions I think I've laid into it at times in the Naruto anime thread recently, yeesh that fucking show... As long as IBO isn't as character centric as Turn A I should be fine. Don't get me wrong I adore Turn A, it's just not something you watch for the battle scenes.

IBO has had some nicely done mobile suit battle scenes, but hasn't had one in a long while (
since fighting the Teiwaz girls probably, since the space pirates fight looked pretty cheap
). I like to think the "A" team is still working on the next big battle.

At any rate, the show has been fine so far overall. But it still feels like it's in setup mode where it's spending most of its time establishing things rather than resolving them.

IBO is pretty character centric, though I don't think anyone on the main cast is as bad as that Gavan Gooney dude.

Does the Zeta ever pop up in Build Fighters Try? I don't remember if it makes a battle cameo in GBF.

Don't let Shun find out,
he'll want to have your babies or something.
Honestly not sure.

I remember that most second leads didn't so it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't.

Well that sucks. Why is my favorite lead suit so ignored now?
Lol.

Lightning's final form is Zeta and thry have a brand new Dom G animation for Z3 Vs Red Delta Gundam.

Zeta will never be ignored but at this point with Strike Freedom, Exia, Zaku, 78-2, snd Unicorn it doesnt stand as tall as it did when it was just 0079 and Zeta as kings of Gundam.

IBO is good so far overall, I'm only on episode 12 though. Gotta catch up. But like I've said before, I feel like ~8-10 (on or about; I don't recall the specifics) went too far into some of anime's lesser aspects IMO, and dragged hard with the exception of a few great scenes. I was really happy when things started picking up again.

But Zeta is a suit design that has stood the test of time Strike Freedom and Exia are just for angsty teenagers. Seriously. Who's going to care about Strike Freedom 30 years from now?

Same thing was said about Wing Zero EW and while its not number 1 in Japan, its still in the top 3 world wide if we just look around.

Granted I strongly dislike Strike Freedom...I wouldnt be shocked if people love it.

I just looked up the Strike Freedom for the first time.

...kinda surprised he isn't piloting it.

Do people really love the design of Strike Freedom or is it because it was in the most accessible gateway Gundam of that era? I know Wing was another iconic gateway Gundam but the suit designs are still legit. In fact the only one that does rub me the wrong way in Seed Destiny is Strike Freedom and that thing Rey gets towards the end. I didn't exactly like Providence either.

I love Xenogears, it's practically Evangelion the video game.
Exia is legit, yo. Check yo' UC privilege.

okay it's a bit much with the evil eye and cape
Regarding 00 I don't hate Exia, I'm just more of a Dynames and Kyrios fan.

Maybe because they don't do much at this point, I don't find any of the IBO MSs particularly memorable---

Wasn't Barbatos supposed to transform into a bull or something? What happened to that?

You're my new favorite person.

Both of which are phenomenal, aye. I'm using several of their defining angles for inspiration in my books. >_>; To be fair, I'm doing that from all over Gundam, but for those two it's rather obvious.

...now I wanna rewatch 00 a fourth time... must resist... I still have several Gundam shows to watch...

I'm worried that the unremarkable mobile suit offerings will lead to decreased interest in the series over in Japan. It's true; at least up through the twelfth episode (where I'm at right now), there's nothing but Barbatos that really sticks out. (And Barbatos doesn't really awe me either. At least not yet.)

I actually started xenogears today but the slow text is a killer

I can image that being a real slayer in 2016, yeah. I was hooked as soon as my friends and I got our hands on its pre-release Pizza Hut demo disc, so I'm immune. Stick with it if you can. The stories of its troubled second disc are (mostly) true, but the game's a wild ride with a relatively satisfactory finale.

Jaded the thing is I don't know if you can argue it's a gate way Gundam.

Strike Freedom comes after Strike, Freedom, Impulse and Destiny. Given the love it has and the fact it can sell perfect grade models and metal builds tells us that hi-end collectors and lovers do value it and it's not just a bunch of casual fans.

Also I didn't like Legend either.

Haha will do since it has mechs in it

Ehh...I'm just not much of a lead suit guy. Granted with UC shows you have no fucking choice with Zeta and Nu being my favorite ones...do I have to count the Sazabi as well cause I love me some Sazabi. My other problem is Seed just isn't too high on my faves list. Don't get me wrong, I like it and enjoy watching it, I just rank it lower cause of Kira. I guess I mainly just don't like things associated with Kira. Athrun is an exception cause he's a fully fledged character that can stand on his own two feet without Kira stepping in. Dude just can't win a logical argument with Kira...cause it's Kira. That derp face is a logic reflective shield.

I grew up with PS1 JRPG's. I played that on my vita and wasn't phased at all. Enjoy, there's even a Voltron sequence late in the game. It's cute till the boss kicks your ass.

Oh I'm with you on nearly all of that.

However I think that is personal bias and if we take a step back and just let go we see that Kira and Strike Freedom are truly loved by many, many people. We've had 6 lead characters, and a dozen lead Gundams supine Strike Freedom and nothing before or after can touch it and no character including Links touches Kira.

Only Wing Zero EW and Exia come close and neither command the love of SF.

Even more I personally hated Zeta and think the only suits from Zeta enjoyable are Titans Mark 2 and Shiki which is improved on in every way by Delta Plus and then Delta Gundam. So really To me Zeta and Strike Freedom are both head scratchers lol.

Titans Mark II cause of my bae Emma Sheen. Sometimes I think I'm the only person that liked most of the suits in Zeta...except the Methuss, fuck that transformable junk trawler. I mean it has its shit in there, but come on I can't be the only one that likes that Baun Doc and Ashimarr, the flying cheese wheel of doom.

Nah you're not.

I know several people who love both suits.

I feel that way about stuff like Virgo 1 in Wing because it gets an upgrade and is left behind by the likes of Tarus, Aries, and Leo in so many people's eyes.

My favorite suits are basically all grunt suits, mostly from Zeon. Lead suits just don't really do a lot for me most of the time. The suits from Wing are probably the few I actively dislike, however. Heavyarms is cool, though.

I do have a huge soft spot for robots with a knight aesthetic, though, so the R-Gyagya's one of my most recent favorites.

I also liked most of the suit designs from Zeta, so eh.

Wing grunts are best grunts though. You could tell what a suit does just by looking at it for the most part.

The Gelgoog can die in a fire because I died against it like seventeen times in the PS2 game Journey to Jaburo.

it rocks tbh

Holy crap, Gundam SEED's first OP is amazing workout music.

0079 had so many great grunt suits

Gouf and zaku 2 are my favs
Outside of GM 3 I didn't care for most UC Grunts unless you count things like Zeta Plus.

That said even the grunts in Unicorn are amazing with the new grunts like the Jesta, ReZel and ReZel Commander type.

Wait until you get to OP3. Dat opening riff, unf.

Destiny OP1 and 2 are also some good workout music.

Best is "Zips (UNDER:COVER version)" that was used in Destiny Special Edition 1. That song will make you want to go RUN.

Is that game good. How cheap is it these days?

Haha, man. I don't know if it's good; I last played it when I was like 15. I'm 28 now. I remember liking it! I liked Zeonic Front as well. There was a third big Mobile Suit Gundam game for PS2; I don't think my friends and I ever got a chance to play it.

It looks like eBay sells copies for under six bucks.

If you don't plan on watching the Special Editions, go ahead and get "Zips" and its UNDER:COVER version in your ears. Both are equally good.

T.M.Revolution is the artist.

What's the Special Edition again? Oh, right, it's the four 90-minute movie treatment. Cool, I'll check those out. I probably won't watch those versions, yeah. (Unless everyone tells me to watch it instead.)

The only thing relevant from the 3 SEED movies can be shown to you as a screenshot once you finish the series (basically a scene in the penultimate episode was changed)

The DESTINY ones are a bit better.

And I suppose I could have included YouTube links earlier, my bad.

Oh my god these songs hnnnnnnnng.

I do this really nerdy thing and constantly imagine all these Gundam OPs/EDs as if they were used in my mecha books. It's a good sign when I plug in my headphones and within seconds of ZIPS my brain is coming up with new scenes and plot twists.

That's cause the Gelgoog's first outing was Char getting his shit wrecked and Lala dying thus setting off years upon years of Char chasing swans in space.

I haven't seen the original TV series in a while, but in The Origin, the Gelgoog's first deployment is at the Texas colony and it had the upper hand on the Gundam before it gets the magnetic coating.

Char has the Gelgoog for a little bit in the series, but its only real battle is when he gets wrecked by Amuro. They're also at A Baoa Qu, but they're mostly piloted by novices and also get wrecked.

Haven't read that far into The Origin, though.
