I do not buy that many games, and I'm a bit picky so generally what I buy turns out not to be crap.

Same here, I treat iOS like any other platform any only buy things I will play more than once / get a lot out of. I still have a load of games I don't play but they are purged from my device so I never get too tight on space.

My issue going forward is how many games are now pushing that 2gb limit, yet Apple are still stingy as hell on memory, charging a fortune for 32/64gb. I now think for anyone who wants to play any games that take advantage of the iPads power and screen that they should look at 32gb as a minimum.

COH, BG, MC4, IB2, PQ2, that's about 8GB alone.

We know IBDungeons etc... will be nearly 2gb as well.

Speaking of this, I would like Apple to relive that 2 Gb limit (I know I know....).
There are some genres that would gain from that expecially on 2D assets on retina.
BUT....Apple should force at the same time iCloud support (or just instead of having a separate API for the iCloud sync thing just pull the data that are in the iCloud backup DAMNIT!!! which is separate) so I could delete and reinstall AT WILL without losing any progress.

So let's say I complete CoH and I need space for BG2....but after a while a cool update to CoH add a new campaign...I can reinstall CoH and continue from where I left on the new content.

Given the fact that some cool iOs games receive many updates during a long period of time...I think it's a MUST.
This would even partly resolve space contraints (at least in my case, I would rarely play MULTIPLE over 2Gb games concurrently...so I wouldnt' need all that space).

The iPad could be a "proper" gaming device, Gabe Newell said they could get Dota 2 running on the 4 for example, they just need to make it easier to backup saves (you can do the above with iExplorer but it's a bit Heath Robinson).

Apple memory prices are a ripoff and I'm fine with only playing one or two of the big games at a time. I'll move to 32GB on iDevices once my music library necessitates it, not because of video games...it would be nice if all games saved your progress in the cloud, tho.

Did anyone else have issues with the 1000 lums achievement not triggering on Rayman Jungle Run? I just finished the game (3600 lums), but it never gave me that earlier achievement.

Yeah...many games and genres would fit perfectly on the iPad; I hope someday every dev will consider it a proper triple A console (they have a HUGE installed base already).

Anyway the thing that strikes me most is that if you enable iCloud backups (not the iCloud data sync) you already have EVERYTHING on the cloud (synced to last backup time).
When you delete an app, I noticed that the data SURVIVE inside the iCloud backup for some time (let's say 2-3 subsequent iCloud backups).
I wish there was an option to retain that data FOREVER and pull data on reinstall.
It's already all there, nothing new to do, expecially from devs (obviously data is synced to the date of your last backup...just remember to backup before deletion).

I really do not know why Apple took ANOTHER route to save iCloud data, requiring new API to be implemented.

This is my most wanted thing for iOS 7.

Icloud is working for me in Clash of Heroes. I believe that the Iphone version, while playable is not very enjoyable because the sprites are sooo small. They have a huge landscape making up for the widescreen battles that should just be cut off, allowing for bigger characters. That can amount to a lot of work I agree, but would be worth it. On the ipad however there's no such problem (although it could use a little cutting too). I played the DS version back in the day and it was perfect for the size of the screen, they should try to emulate that for these screens, while keeping the HD look.

Of course, easier said than done.

You can zoom in on your half of the battlefield, which makes things a lot easier on the iphone. I only discovered this myself today.

I'm getting really pissed off with Capcom. We're still waiting for a release date on the Ace Attorney HD collection. Why the fuck is it taking so long?

Initial reaction to Clash of Heroes is really negative. The game feels completely random and vey little based on skill. If your reinforcements decide to lineup nicely you win. If they don't and your enemies reinforcements decide to perfectly block your attack you lose. I despise randomness like this in games.

The control scheme isn't terrible but on more than one occasion I've tapped for reinforcements and instead moved a hero and lost a turn. Very frustrating.

I hope I'm missing some big aspect and the game will click. If you don't like random/frustrating luck in your games, might want to wait on this one.

The earlier levels aren't quite the same, you get 2-3x the number of units as you level up, there's a lot more strategy of which units to prioritize removing and matching when you have a full compliment to use vs what you get when you start. If you properly remove units to form new matches you can get bonus turns... so even though you only start with 3 moves, you can end up taking 5 or 6 moves if you pick wisely. Luck is there, but it only plays a minor role, you will get matches every battle, sure some battles you have the 'perfect' setup, and some are worse, but on the whole things average out, and the game doesn't feel unfair the least (certainly not the SP campaign anyway). Definitely less luck involved than say a CCG, like Magic.

2-3 hours? Damn you must be severely underleveled or something. I have yet to do any grinding, but I did finish all the side quests that I ran into, and they give a large xp bonus. So be sure to do them.

As for the boss, I had no trouble fighting him, but I kept hitting the damn Druid when the boss had like 4hp. Took me 6 tries to beat him.
Yeah I've had that problem too. His hits just seem to do a ton of damage especially his gargoyle. I have 38 HP and it's decimated me down to nothing numerous times

Guys... Pixel People coming next week is SO GOOD. I went to check it out for a few minutes this afternoon and it consumed a couple of hours.

It's a town builder with a style close to Nimblebit, but combined with a "gene combination" system like Doodle God. It has lots of very cute personality. You start with two professions, and mixing professions together unlocks new ones, which in turn unlocks new buildings, etc.

After a couple hours it slows down enough that you can play by checking in a couple times a day, but man... it's already got its hooks into me pretty good.

That's an understatement and a half. It does look pretty great though, looking forward to it. Is it free?

As for CoH, I haven't played the iOS port yet but to call the game "completely random" is just ridiculous. Sure, you're faced with situations that won't be signposted, but the skill is in how you plan for and handle them. You will never lose a battle because of sheer bad luck, because there's always a way to handle every situation if you're good enough and strong enough. Sounds like you just suck, J0dy =P

There's a battle in CoH where you're not supposed to hit a certain unit. Problem is, he randomly moves around every turn, and your attacks are generally initiated several turns in advance. So it comes down to how lucky/unlucky you are. Shit is frustrating, on my 4th attempt now.

I hope there aren't more gimmicks like this in later fights.

I think I just did that fight.
I found it very nice!!! (done at first attempt :p)
TBH I think I was lucky...he pratically was jailed in a corner by some HUGE Griffons who have a high counter.
So I just filled that part of the screen with walls, and hammered the enemy with fast attacks on the opposite side.

Game is becoming more and more strategic as I play...it's really fantastic imho.

Well, I recommend approaching the game as a strategy game, not a grind RPG. There is an element of chance (chance plays a role in every RPG, as you are still at the mercy of the "roll"), and yes, you can grind to a very limited extent, but at some point you have to work within the structure of the battle you're presented. You'll definitely start to see this a lot clearer in the boss battles. The game makes it abundantly evident that merely fighting straight through ain't gonna work. You have to form very distinct strategies to win those battles, and it's rewarding as all hell.

Played through the game three times on DS. Trust me, it's not an impossible game in any way. It's just very different than any type of match-3 game you've likely ever played.

I will say this about Clash of Heroes...

When designing the game, we played it as a board game. On paper, with 'coins' to represent units, pens and paper to jot down charge times and attack power. Even before a lick of code was written, the game was entirely about being able to strategically and skillfully deal with any situation, and any deal of the deck.

There are two random elements in the game - initial layouts, and reinforcement layouts. There are times you need but one simple move to form a Champion unit, and there are times when that is true for your enemy. Even then, you are never dealt units totally randomly (aside from colors, to an extent) during reinforcements - it is always about # of the unit types you own combined with weights applied to each type of unit.

However, the randomness is inconsequential. There is always a foil strategy, always a counter that negates the advantage. Whittle down a charging champion so their attack is non-lethal, take the hit, notice your spell meter is full, unleash hell to balance the game. Use a druid or djinn to slow or halt the charging. Use shot after shot after show from core units. Build walls... then charge your own champion behind them. Sacrifice non-charging units because you know you can purchase more.

The thing I am most proud of - well, one of them - is that it is a game of strategy.

Wasn't interested before. Now you got another sale.

Just a note: we only created the original game - the iOS version isn't at all "ours".

But I am very happy that more people will be playing the game. We really did work hard to make it something special, and we're very proud of it.

You should be proud of it, it was one of the top five DS games I played.

It's really what game design should be about. Take other ideas and merge them into a new fresh experience. There's a familiarity there, but it's completely it's own thing.

Anyone here with Baldur's Gate care to say if the patch improved the UI?
The UI still looks the same, however, it is now very easy to select stuff in the game world. I'm having absolutely no trouble clicking on doorways or corpses. That was my only gripe with the game.

Have played a few builds of this during dev. Graphics and frame rate are great, even on my crappy iPhone 4.

Oh really? I'd love to hear some more impressions on the overall feel of Table Top Racing. I've read (and you confirm) great graphics and framerate, but how's the actual racing? This is coming from the Wipeout guys so I'd imagine there is good level of "feel" of the racing if that makes sense.

Off topic but have you guys ever considered getting into the golf game scene?

Ah wtf, can't update Baldur's Gate due to not enough space, but I have 2.2 gigs free. That's not cool. Anyone know how much space I'll have to clear? I don't really want to delete anything but I guess I could delete M&M and re-dl after updating, I was only an hour in...

Not impressed with the BG team technically at all! No mention in the patch notes at fixing the bug where touching Boo crashes the game either.

I think you download the game via iTunes and sync to the iPad you only need the 2.2Gb free.

This is awesome! I'm one second from double dipping... I found it to be one of the finer games of my DS.

Also, didn't apple start allowing delta updates? Get on that Baldur's Gate.

I just had to clear over two gigs of space to download the Vice City update, which was a tiny delta update on a 1.3GB game. I think they're still using the app size x2 as the space needed and ignoring the actual size of the patches.

You will need something like 4.5GB of free space. Yea it's not pretty.

Really? Wow, that's a pretty big screw up. So if there's a 2kb fix and the app was 1.3GB I still need 2.6GB free to install. That's terrible.

So, I had another game come out yesterday that's called ShellBlast Forever- it's a bomb defusing game that's a cross between Picross and Minesweeper, in a way.

It's a pretty out there puzzle game but I think it's a pretty unique title. Pocket Tactics seems to like it and I'd love some feedback. So, hidden in this post is fifteen codes (its a universal app)- if you do use one, I'd love any comments you might have, good or bad! Or just have fun with the game, whatever. :)

(These codes *should* work, but if it says "offer expired" let me know and I'll replace them with new ones).

I grabbed JAFR4MEYALFJ, and just started playing forgetting to say I used it:) Thanks.

At first I was a bit confused. I missed there was a separate tutorial and jumped right in, but I figured it out:) The game leans more towards the picross side of the combo, which is the side I prefer anyway even if I'm terrible at it. Only 10 levels in and my brain hurt. After I figured out what those blue chaff were I looked around for an IAP to buy more. Thankfully there was none.

Puzzle mode is a bit strange. Not in a bad way, but definitely an even more unique way to look at a picross game. I do like how this mode isn't timed because I'm mot a big fan of timelimits:) My only technical issue is I wished the game didn't stop the music/podcast I had playing. I can restart it though at least.

Other than that I'd have to agree that this is a pretty darn cool puzzle game.

I sold my iPad 1 and got an iPad 4. Gaming on it is just awesome. Addicted to Banana Kong, one of the first endless runners that managed to catch my interest for more than a day, but i bought Modern Combat 4 and while it has some good graphics (technically speaking, not art style wise) i really, REALLY cant enjoy first person shooters with these kind of controls - just terrible. I can enjoy shooters with an isometric view tough, they work quite well; i got Minigore 2: Zombies and its pretty fun.

On the other hand, games designed for a tablet and touch controls are just awesome.

Clash of Heroes is so packed with interesting content it's mind blowing.
Didn't expect the puzzle stages at all, loving it.
As much as I love chaining Dragons and Ents for a mighty super attack.

Maybe I'm just biased after reading Cromulent post, but in advanced stages the game really stops being a Puzzle RPG....seems to me to play with real miniatures a pure strategy game.
And it is, without any doubt, a labor of love and passion.

Is an iPad 4 good for gaming (and good in general)? I'm getting tired of lugging my laptop around campus.

I have an iPhone 5 too, if that makes any difference.

Hey, a small team of 4 people including myself just released our first iOS game last night.

Robo Force:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/robo-force/id569413714?ls=1&mt=8

mzl.bfuvrdnt.320x480-75.jpg
mzl.larchglf.320x480-75.jpg
mzl.yjlebrma.320x480-75.jpg

The game is a Doodle Jump inspired Jumper with some "modern" design mechanics like power-ups, upgradable items, an XP system and several level and character unlocks.
On top of some design quirks, we've also worked on a full Story Mode for the game, complete with beautiful cut-scenes.

Our artist did an amazing job with all of his animations, and the game's look is probably what I'm most proud of.

It's free, and does have IAP options, but if you're at all good at the game you don't need to purchase an extra orbs to enjoy Robo Force! :)

Let me know what you guys think, I know it's far far away from a "great" game, but it's our first one so any feedback would be much appreciated!

It's the best option many would agree. It really depends of the types of games you are interested though. If you mostly care about the games that you can play while taking a shit, then you don't need one. If you care about the games that have a little more depth, then an iPad offers the better experience.
