The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |Thread4| NOT Doomed

How long until Kairosoft usually puts out a Lite version of new games? A week or so? First of their games that I played was Game Dev, loved it, then Grand Prix, very good, and now I'm playing Pocket League Story and getting kind of bored with it only 5-6 years in. :/ Are the new ones Epic Astro and now Dungeon Village upping the quality?

I'm starting the process of developing my own iPad game and am in need of some volunteers to take a brief survey (~10 min). I want to get some feedback and make sure the idea is viable before I sink my savings and summer into it. If you're interested in helping out shoot me a PM and I'll send you a link to the survey.

A hint at what I'm doing is available in the company name I chose: www.Fumovi.com

Thanks!

Okay, then -- two questions:

1. When you say control the drill with your finger, can you control it by placing your finger directly on the drill, or do you still have to use the virtual stick? Because that just isn't working for me.

and

2. How do you quit out without destroying the rest of the asteroid or failing?

Sorry its been a long time since i played the game. yeah you control the drill with the virtual stick. and to finish hit the fire button though it does destroy the asteroid you still keep some of the ore you drilled.

Has anyone played Plague Inc.?

I can't even unlock the first disease! :(

Yeah. I spent 5 hours doing that until I figured out I should devolve all my mutations and focus on infecting the entire global population before cranking up the lethality.

Funny, given your username ;)

Are you talking about playing it on Normal mode? It's a bitch, but apparently the patch ("mutation", tehehe) that came out this week fixed some balance issues. I beat it by starting in Madagascar, pretty much the hardest region to infect if you start anywhere bar there (harder than Greenland, IMO). Concentrate on infections first, because if you create a bug that kills people faster than it spreads, it won't spread to all countries. And you may have to devolve to get some extra DNA to make it fatal, too.

Any recommendations for Fungus in Plague Inc? I can usually infect everyone, but then I just run out of DNA to kill everyone quick enough before a cure comes along.

Just popping in to sing the praises of MegaRun. It's an endless runner, but a platformer at heart. It almost has a Kirby aesethetic that is undeniably charming. I think it's going to be big hit.

Anyone have a link to this new Final Fantasy iPhone game that was announced?

Haha, it's a frustrating game, but pretty addictive.

Touch'e! Heheh.

It definitely is a bitch, I'm often able to infect the whole world, and the cure is at 10%, and by the time I get to around 30% of deaths, the cure is at 80%, and I get hardly get points to spend, so I can't kill people quicker.

I need people to start uploading walkthroughs!

I can't speak to Dungeon Village - indeed, I came into the thread looking for impressions.

However, Epic Astro Story was a real bust for me, in that I reached close to the end of the experience and realized I had no interest in "finishing" in any capacity. I hit a wall in Epic Astro Story in particular, and the work necessary to break it down was so tedious/monotonous that I just stopped, which is not something I would say for the earlier games. I wanted to like the game, and do like many parts of it, but I certainly wouldn't put it on the level of Game Dev or Grand Prix.

For the record, I personally put the games into three tiers.

Game Dev/Grand Prix/Pocket Academy
Mega Mall/Venture Towns/Pocket League
Epic Astro/Hot Springs/Edo Towns (Although, realistically, I'd put Epic Astro above both Hot Springs and Edo Towns).

Based on what I've read, Dungeon Village could be the Venture Towns to Epic Astro's Edo Towns, which I thought was a nice improvement. Will surely break down and try it eventually.

Do you devolve all your transmission thingys once you've infected almost the whole world? If you remember to do that, it'll get you some (though admittedly, not a lot) of DNA back with which to spend on symptoms.

I don't know why, but I just can't get into kairosoft games anymore. I own almost all of them, but I just have a hard time spending the time I used to spend in early ones, like Game Dev Story. I wish I could, because they all look great, but I think I just have a hard time keeping interest in those first few hours you spend building things up. It doesn't help that practically all of their games are exactly the same, wrapped up in different themes.

Forget.Me.Not is still pretty awesome, though. Same with 1-bit Ninja. Give 'em both a try.

You know what, I think I starting to wear on the formula as well. Just not excited for them to come out nor am I excited to play them anymore.

Thanks for the code. I was able to play it a bit today. Initially, I wasn't too taken with it. I was having trouble hitting the petals, at times the wrong one was going and I'd end up missing.

My problem was that I was tapping too far down the petal (oh, and a big finger.) Squared away, I gave it another go and, tapping more toward the end of the petal and finding much better success, it started to grow on me.

I'd say it was a pretty good game. I'm not a big fan of using the motion controls but that is no mark at all against your game. It was functional, had some nifty art and I'm sure it's right up a few folks in here's collective alley.

Thanks again and sorry I didn't get back a faster response.

Hey, sorry for the late reply as well, and thanks for trying out the game! :)

I really appreciate the feedback. Yeah the petal tapping isn't necessarily intuitive enough right now, a lot of people try to tap the center of the flower. I'm trying to come up with a non tilt control method for the iPad version, anyone have any thoughts on what might be an ideal solution?

Oh, not much info I guess.
It may be just an iOS collection of those oldschool looking Final Fantasy games they released on cellphones.

Which is still fine, because I need more straight up RPGs on this device. Thanks Squaresoft for having the balls to do something like the Chaos Rings franchise, more developers need to put out $15-20 high caliber games.

edit: Heroes Call is pretty meh. Looks good, but too many things wrong with it. Such as the following: It's slow, the freenium part of it is HORRIBLE, it's really slow, having the action obscured by your hand is annoying, it's super slow, and your character doesn't show off the gear he's wearing (which is THE WORST for this sort of game.)

So I guess somehow that Dungeon Hunter 2 is still the to-go Dungeon crawler. :|
Same with 1-bit Ninja. Give 'em both a try.
1-bit Ninja is really, really fun and works good enough on the iPad. I'll also endorse it.

How's Final Fantasy Tactics on iPad in comparison to the PS1 original? Or is it based on the newer versions? I have a long coach journey tomoz so undecided whether to bite or just dig out my old PSP.

holy snapplecakes. I was waiting for this one since forever!

Also, Roboto is on sale 99c. Impressions? looks like its a platformer but I was wondering if it was decent.

http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/roboto/id449384735?mt=8

I found Roboto surprisingly fun on iPad. I hated it on the phone though, unless you have a 4s it runs like poop. Really lovely visuals though and it's unique enough to be worth a play.

So our new game Ichi is launching on thursday june 7th! And we would like to give neogaf a sneak peak. Thats why I'm giving away 49 copies of Ichi lite for ios. Please note that this is the pre-release version. The final version has a few less bugs.

Ichi is an easy to play but challenging one button puzzle game. Don't be deceived by the game simplistic look, it’s a braintwister for sure! Collect golden rings by rotating objects, using teleporters, breaking blocks and more. If that isn’t enough, the game includes a level editor that allows you to create your own levels and share them with anyone around the globe!

Ichi started as a challenge for Jay van Hutten to develop a simple, cute and fun one button puzzle game. Almost a year later Stolen Couch Games took over the challenge and co-redeveloped the game for mobile devices.

Features:
- Fun and original one button gameplay
- Over 50 brain-twisting puzzles
- Catchy music
- Built-in level editor
- Hundreds of user-created levels
- Game Center support

"Ichi is a cute yet tricky one-button puzzler"
- Michael Rose, Indiegames

"A fun, stylish and challenging indie experience"
- Chad Awkerman, DualShockers

"There's only one key to press, after all, so how challenging could that be? Try a whole lot of challenging."
- john bardinelli, JayisGames

"The sketchy art style extends beyond the title screen to a game with rich visuals"
- John Polson, DIYGamer

Enjoy!
Quote to reveal the codes

PLEASE NOTE: This version has a bug! Start the game in landscape when starting the game (hold it side-ways) else it doesn't work correctly. This has been fixed in the final version!

wow. Dungeon Village is hella addictive. Kairosoft games are pretty hit or miss for me, but I really dig this one, the mall one, and game dev story.

And i picked up chaos rings 2. Fun stuff. Main Character sure got it rough like right off the bat.

It's a shame that the game is like locked at ~20fps.

Thanks for the code but I had to restart the game three times before it worked for me.

As I said the first time you showed it, neat concept and great artstyle, if the release version has less bugs as you say I'm gonna buy it for sure.

Has anyone tried Eternal Legacy yet? It's Gameloft's ripoff of... FFX maybe? Modern Squaresoft RPGs in general?

I haven't played it yet, but I'm weirdly curious about the idea of Gameloft trying to ripoff a JRPG.

You have a pre-release version. The final version is in review :)

p.s. i send you a pm

Bought it when it first came out, played it for about 4 hours on my 2g touch and about 8 hours on my 4g last year, it's a good rpg but because it's about 2 years old now it's a little iffy, old gameloft game stuff you know.

It is worth a play just ignore the iffy voice overs.

Thanks for the code Bamihap. Nice artstyle to it and the game play is a nice fun puzzle system to relax to or use to pass time while waiting with. Hopefully the farther it goes and custom stages allow for access to the whole screen save for the basic tapping room of controls/options.

I did run into a few problems though. If I turned the iPhone horizontal the game would freeze and every time an advert would play it would cause the program to crash either by pressing the skip button or letting the the timer run out.

Hi, Good to know! We'll fix that. Ads won't be in the full version of course :)

Well, Galaxy on Fire 2 just became hugely addictive. Wasn't impressed by the demo (outside of the visuals), and even the early parts of the full game can seem kinda meh. But then everything just clicks and you find yourself racking up quests in order to buy tons of cool shit. Someone loved this game...very much. There are so many cool, little things that just make it a joy to play.

it looks good. It has some modern jrpg elements like monsters on the map. Visuals are impressive (at the time) as well. But like most gameloft games, shit falls apart in gameplay and level design. gameplay just ain't much fun.

Thanks for the Ichi code. I played through all of the levels and enjoyed it. I didn't have any bugs or issues either. The hold to draw a line mechanic seemed to have a slight delay though so my line was a bit later than I wanted it, but aside from that I had fun. I'll probably buy the final game!

Doesn't lite mean free?
Yes, but it isn't out yet. I'll throw some full version codes on neogaf as well when the game releases.

I'm glad your enjoying the game. You can also try out the user created levels in the lite version. And you can create and share your own levels.

I'm very on the fence with this one. Is it sandboxy or some linear space flight combat or...? Intrigued, but a bit clueless!

I'm a bit upset about dungeon village...

It was the exact idea I wanted to make into a game.
Sprite art
You are mayor of town you have to develop
your layout and shop would draw certain heroes into your town to clean out dungeons and they would come and spend money in your town
To could see visual upgrades when heroes lvled up or got new equip
heroes could move in
Parody of heroes from jrpgs

Some things they didn't do I had ideas for
different stores
Price setting for shops
You stock your own items
houses you built to put in random loot to lure heroes
No field enemies it was all dungeon based and they all headed to different dungeons and floors and they had to get to the bottom and clear it.
You had a tavern to set parties
You built more buildings to lure villagers with specific skills to further improve your town
A lot of other stuff...

...
fuck...

:(

Don't remember everything from it but both your idea and Dungeon Village looks like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King.

It's not really good. There's much better JRPG style games on app store.

I'm very on the fence with this one. Is it sandboxy or some linear space flight combat or...? Intrigued, but a bit clueless!

It's very much a sandbox game. I actually fell off the main quest for a good two hours to pick up side quests in the various taverns around the galaxy in order to buy better weapons, equipment and even a better ship that now lets me equip two primary weapons at a time.

The quick travel is a bit of a mix. The developers did an amazing job making it both easy for you to travel from planet to plant while still keeping you engaged with random enemy encounters (though you can mostly choose to ignore them. They're more like Galacitrx in the sense that some systems have a lot of hostiles, whilst others are more secure), and traveling to neighboring systems is made easy via leap gates. However, you can't (at least I can't right now) leap to systems that are not neighboring. It forces you to carefully consider what missions you take on, and right now I'm doing multiple missions so that I can pick up what I need for one, complete another on the way, and then return the items for the first mission on the way back.

Trust me, the game can become quite consuming. A buck? Ridiculous value...ridiculous.
