The Last of Us' autosave has a glitch. Read if you're playing. [Apparently fixed]

Ugh, just about to stop playing and notice that it keeps auto saving. Check GAF, see thread, realise I lost 2+ hours :(

Solved!

Wait... our saves are on a server? I don't understand.

I've been playing for about 2 hours now with autosaving not working. I guess I can't quit the game now, can I? Looks like my PS3 will be on for a while..

If you haven't seen it already, we have we've been investigating and have discovered where the issue was -- the cause was from our servers for The Last of Us, which were capturing player statistics.

We've made a change to the servers. Quit any game in progress out to the XMB and restart the game. Existing saves are fine.

Single-player and multiplayer are both okay to play (since some of you were playing offline).

Awesome, I am very happy to be wrong about you guys not fixing this today. Take care, Samurai Warrior.

I'm scare Arne.

Conspiracy theory time:

Maybe Sony did this on purpose to show how bad "always online - cloud power" can be and the benefits of being able to disconnect to play.

I don't really believe that

What I don't get is what does being online have to do with the save file? Shouldn't all this stuff be available locally? Why was progress being communicated to the server while still in game?

im playing offline anyway since i dont want to input my online code :P

good thing i found this thread, was at
20 years later , when i read the thread.

would have played for 2-3 hours without noticing 0_o

All I wanted was a damn apology Naughty Dog - not an explanation as to WHY you've cost me the time you have, and whatever ridiculous decision was behind it. I dropped £80 quid on your fucking game.

Probably something like:

public void DoAutosave()
{
SendStatsToServer();
WriteSaveFileToDisk();
}

SendStatsToServer() hangs waiting on an overloaded server, the save file never gets written.

Entitled much? A problem was discovered and Naughty Dog fixed it within one working day. It is fixed before the vast majority of people have even had an opportunity to play the game (my day one Amazon order hasn't even been delivered yet and I'm at work anyways).

They apologized and fixed it. What are you attacking them for?

I'm not entitled at ALL - I understand that these things can happen, but I have yet to see an apology for wasting people's time.

Mraah, raah entitlement. Raar, graar never touching this game again because you guys had launch day issues.

Thanks to the ND guys for getting it up and working, just waiting on my Amazon copy and am looking forward to digging into the game all night!

Too late for me. I am not going to ever pick this game up again.

Too late? The game hasn't even been out for a full day yet, I'd say they handled this really well.

There's a post from arne right above you where he apologizes. Regardless I don't see the difference between "Sorry! we fixed the problem" and "We fixed the problem!"

Autosave issue - FIXED and update

Hi all,

The autosave issue some of you have been encountering has been investigated thoroughly. We have determined that the cause had to do with a server we were using to capture player stats, which is why playing offline may have alleviated the issue for some players. We have addressed the issue with the server.

All you need to do is quit any current playthrough of The Last of Us all the way out to the XMB, and then restart the game.

Existing save files are okay. Both single-player and multiplayer are okay to play. I.E. you play online in any mode.

Enjoy!

This thread should be closed....problem solved, all that is left is a bunch of whiney babies. Too much drama for 1-4 hours of your life. Heres a tip, this wont be the last time in your life that something or someone will waste your time.

I hope this fits the bill:

We are sorry for all the lost progress! It sucks but we tried to get it fixed as quickly as possible for that reason.

Thanks to all who helped as well.

Dude, they fixed it in like less than 15 hours. Get a grip.

Read my fucking post - I'm asking for an apology. Every single statement they've released so far says they've addressed the issue - great. And no offence - but don't tell me what to do. I bought the hard back guide and the Ellie edition and have been anticipating it for months for a server side error to cost me 5 hours of gameplay and ALL I want is an apology in one of these statements.

I hope this fits the bill:

It's better than nothing - would be nice to have seen it in an official statement from ND. Gonna take a break now - might pick the game up again next week when it won't feel like I'm treading the same ground too quickly.
