So they're doing SP DLC for this game... I've been thinking quite a bit about it.

I suspect that we will see something to do with the events/characters already in the game.

If it is Joel/Ellie, I think it might be some of their "missing time" during their journey. But I'm actually more interested in the possibility of playing as some of the side characters. For, example,
Bill and his Buddy
, or maybe
Joel and Tess (play as Tess!)
in the quarantine zone.

Maybe we get to play
Ish's story
and find out what eventually happens
to him!

Thoughts, expectations?

I would actually like to have a DLC based on what
happened between Joel and Tommy.

did anyone else pick up on the fact that the reason tommy and Joel split is because Joel was basically a hunter, picking off people as they came into town to survive? Ellie asked how Joel knew the guy in Pitt was faking and he said "I've been on both sides"

In the interaction with tommy, tommy seemed to be against doing whatever to survive.

Finished it today. It was a great game. Some very emotional scenes, tense moments, great voice work, nice scenery. Overall fantastic.

Gameplay wise a few minor problems (why can't I take soldiers/hunters ammo? etc). But overall it was good and I didn't think it was clunky or bad.

Favorite fight strategy: throw brick and infected go towards the noise then throw molotov at the group. Haha gets me every time!

Ellie was great. Loved her character. Her interaction with Bill was one of my favorite parts!

Yes of course. But if you read many of the letter strewn about throughout the game, you would see that being
a hunter wasn't exactly a choice for many. People that refused or spoke out against it were executed on the spot. This is not a defense of Joel, but more commentary on how grey to black the world they lived in was. If not for Joel, if we are to take their word for it, Tommy would be dead. ND has talked about how the hunters we not your typical "bad guys" and that the world of TLoU was bleak and grey
.

I think people are misreading Joel's
motivations. He did not lie because he is selfish... he did so to protect Ellie from the weight of it. So she would not have to feel such immense guilt just for living her life. He chose to shoulder all the weight of it himself. Maybe someday, when she is older, he will tell her. Maybe. But Ellie doesn't owe the world anything. And all the people who feel entitled to what she has, even if it costs her life, they are the dark side of humanity. And she is not beholden to them or anyone. Not even if the cure was 100% guaranteed. Which it wasn't. Joel witnessed how hard Ellie fought for life. Her will to live was demonstrated over and over again. He eventually assumed the role of guardian and parent, and ultimately acted in her best interest. In the end, he protected a child from those who meant to kill her. He did not fuck over the world, it was already well-fucked.

WARNING: HUGE UNMARKED SPOILERS TWO POSTS DOWN
His motivations could be for both, but heavily slanted towards selfishness. This man has lost so much throughout the years, and has done pretty terrible things after he lost Sarah. I feel that if he lost Ellie, he would either kill himself, or become like the hunters.

Remember that Joel wasn't really a good guy when he partnered up with Tess. He is an infamous criminal that even needed to use a fake identity to get through checkpoints. What changed him to open up was Ellie.

Well, that's what I feel.

One funny part which I played last night was when I tried to extra-quietly sneak my way past a couple of clickers, Bill would stomp his way ahead of me, shouting "runners!" even though they are at least 15 metres away.

Of course all hell broke loose after that.

PS. I hate bloaters.

I ended up not hating them because molotov plus couple of shots worked fantastic!! :D easy kill!

Nope nope nope, I disagree completely. He lies to Ellie to prevent her from going back out and looking for a way to sacrifice herself. Her speech about her friend Riley dying and Ellie waiting for her mind to go, but it never doing so, was meant to show that she doesn't even want to live anymore — at least, not if there's any chance her death would serve a purpose. The whole point of the game is that Joel has been broken by the death of his daughter and the world going to shit. If he were honest with Ellie about what happened, she would turn around on her heel and head back to Salt Lake City, or wherever. Joel wants a daughter again, and perhaps more importantly and reasonably, "something worth surviving for." It doesn't matter what Ellie wants.

Also, I'm pretty sure the way the details are laid out presumes that dissecting Ellie would be a 100% cure. Marlene says it matter-of-factly: "the doctors say once they remove it they can reverse engineer a cure!"

I'm still having trouble believing Troy Baker voices Joel. It's so hard to hear Booker/Yuri/Snow/Kanji/etc. in Joel's voice. It's there, but it's so faint. He did a fantastic job. I didn't know he had that range.

I want this. Due to
it being unresolved. Also, of all the artifact notes in the game, Ish's section in the sewers is the most interesting. The way you visually see his progression from the boat, to the sewers, to the suburbs is fantastic. I'd love to know what happened to him. With the DLC maybe even starting when the boat hits land. If they are willing to make it that long. If not, starting in the suburbs would suffice.

I barely heard any Troy Baker in Joel — only a few times when he yelled. He delivered such a convincing accent and tone throughout the entire game. Truly one of the best performances of its kind in any video game ever.

Edit: Oh, and speaking of Ish;
Some of the best story-telling in the whole game is what is said in those sewer pipes without any found notes, without any traditional "writing." Specifically, finding the little classroom/play area, where there are toys lying around, and there's teaching materials on a whiteboard, and just so much detail all over the place, really delivering the idea that despite the hell outside, and the creepiness of their surroundings, and the depths to which humanity had fallen, some people still found a way to gather and love each other... only for the madness to eventually disrupt even that.
Really powerful stuff.

For a 14 year old, Ellie sure swears a lot. The first few hours is escort mission coated as an action adventure. I do like the atmosphere but I really feel the gameplay drags a bit. and the pace is off.
I hate the clickers.

Agreed. I want to watch a recording session clip to see how much is him naturally and how much is post.

My expectations are
still playing as Joel, but bridging the gap in the "20 year" skip. It would flesh the relationship between Tess, Marlene, and even show what happened with Tommy. Could also show his first time outright killing other non-infected people, seeing how much Sarah initially messed with him, stuff like that.

It's crazy how much better he is in here than how he is in Arkham City as Two Face.

I thought that was actually a pretty poor performance, but I guess direction has a lot to do with it and Baker sounded personally very invested in the project.

I deleted my post. I think.
I'm not sure of the functions via my iPod touch.

Sp dlc.....I got this crazy idea that would just blow people's minds. I think. Lol

This shouldn't be a spoiler.

Their are two dogs playing/fighting at mid way through the game. Imagine playing those dogs as they live a day & night in this world!?!

Constant humans killing each other and the infected....littlest hobo in this world would be cool I think.

Am I crazy?

I have gravitated towards your viewpoint over the course of this thread, but I still see obvious mentions or examples of how flawed Joel is. You're assuming quite a lot with your statement and I think if it was truly what you claim it to be, it would be much more clear cut(with Joel's motivations specifically). Joel is back in town with his brother who once told him he'd never want to see him ever again. That alone spells future conflict for me.

of course joel is a twisted character, he has been through a lot. i think he did it for both of them

There's some rumors that ND cut a big chunk of content from the game (Bruce has since commented, saying the only major cut was a dog companion early in dev, but could just be damage control) so I have a worry we might be seeing something as DLC that was originally part of the game proper.

Putting on my tinfoil hat, maybe they realized the game was already pretty meaty, and they had a big section they could cut (without harming the overall narrative) and drop as DLC later. Recall that they delayed the game, indicating things were taking longer than originally planned, might have been another reason to hold back a chunk of the game.

I hope not.

I don't really want to play a Joel/Ellie section from mid-game... would like to see alternate characters, or something prequel-Ish.

That's not my reading of it at all,
' but we know for a fact that dissecting Ellie wouldn't guarantee a cure, that's not how medicine works. That's what Marlene believes in because of her own struggles - she convinced herself that it can't all be for nothing, and killing Ellie would be the thing to finally absolve her mind.

In a recent interview, ND said that the DLC will be a "side story" and they're still in the early stages of developing it

Nah.
Marlene struggles with the idea more than anyone else, because she's so close to Ellie. Moreover, the way the doctors reacted indicates there is more than just "a chance" of finding a cure.

Finding a vaccine for anything is not a trivial matter. Just because the doctors from the crazy group believed so doesn't make it so.

I don't know if this happened to anyone else, but I always got really nervous every time Joel or Ellie walked across a plank or climbed a ladder because Uncharted conditioned me to think those things will break on you every time.

Hey guys, so I'm about 20 minutes into the
university section.
I've racked up 14 hours already because I like to be really thorough in searching all the areas. The game says I'm about 70% through but it doesn't seem to be that good of an indicator, as the % seems to jump up much faster during the cutscene heavy sections as opposed to the gameplay ones (although I guess that could just be due to my aformentioned OCD). Around how much would you say I have left? Should I bother trying to finish this tonight?

Game is awesome btw, takes a while to really get moving, but once it does it's great stuff.

You have a ton left.

I want a story set during the first 24 hours when the outbreak really started. You're the leader of a special operations unit sent to investigate a massacre at a hotel. Sorta like Die Hard + Resident Evil.

You can just call it The First Of Them.

meet Henry and his younger brother Sam, we're about to go out at night after resting in their hideout

Game's pretty good so far, I really like it, sadly I won't be able to play again until the weekend so I'll just have to wait and hopefully by next Saturday I'll have finished TLoU.

So if I buy the Season Pass on PSN, I get the 90-minute doc and all future DLC?

How is the doc, and much HDD space does the doc take? I have an 80GB PS3 phat, so I have to ration my HDD space carefully! (Don't tell me to expand!)

Seems like that would remove pretty much all the interesting parts of the game. No human enemies, only one infected type, etc.
