TLoU2 is also locked at 30 just like Uncharted 4 and TLoU1. The only modern ND game that runs at 60 it's the remaster version of TLoU.
Strange thing is this feels far closer to Remastered’s 60 than the OG's 30. Vanilla TLoU felt like it was being dragged through the mud at points. I don’t know what the difference is, but this feels smooth as butter to me in comparison.
There's something about this game that makes the shootouts feel like 10 times more real than in other games

I don't know if it's the enemies talking to each other and coordinating, their sounds of agony, the sounds of the gunfire, or maybe the way Ellie moves when she's getting shot
The difference is they've modeled the humanity of it in excruciating detail. Ellie gasping for breath in desperation as she's running away and healing, the grunts, screams, shouting in anger and sadness when their friends drop, the power of the sound design, the squishing sounds as people are torn apart by gunfire. There are not many games out there I where I'd be too concerned over letting my children play (if I had any, anyway), as I find most games comical in conveying the general reality of violence, but yeah, this one's approaching the bar. It's to a new level of fidelity as far as I'm concerned.

I cannot praise the encounter design in this enough. It's exemplary, and tbh, I'd easily buy a full game around it with nothing but combat arenas. I don't think I'm going to mind such pacing issues people are talking about, as I never tire of combat, in fact I find myself restarting over and over and over again so it won't end.

Or maybe in time people who are loving it right now will be able to look at it with an unbiased perspective.
Maybe but so far I like it. Even more important than the story is atmosphere. There is a sense of doom and decay in this game that is so well done. That being said I understand some people have a certain attachment and just can't get past a certain part of the story. I never thought of this series as a feel good Disney movie so I look at the story on it's own merits.

OK, hauling ass from some areas is legit fun and a viable strategy, and it's pretty tense with the heavy breathing and Ellie and the enemies yelling contextual lines if you are trying to escape after being detected.

Finally free for the rest of the day.

It's time to dive back in.

The fight scenes in this game are incredibly vicious...until you realize they have zero bearing on how the actual gameplay unfolds. People will get hit in the head with bricks, then stabbed in the leg, but hey...no worries, back to crouch-strafing your opponent with zero repercussions.

The more I think bout the plot.... The more it falls apart

It's a mess.

16 hours in. This game is very bold in the story its trying to tell. It’s really well structured in terms of how the narrative is cut and pieced together to compliment character development. I will however say that the first half is paced far better than the second half, at least as far as the story goes.

As much as I’m loving this so far, the story is like some MTV teen love triangle drama tier shit. It’s far more focused on
than it needs to be to be so central to the core narrative.

I keep asking myself, “Why should I care?”.

And yes game, I’m 15 hours in. I know that R3 turns on my torch.

I will say, any reviewer that said the A.I isn't good definitely isn't playing on survivor. These dudes have fucking eagle eye.

Also the fact that there aren't bricks and bottles everywhere plus the bow not killing in one shot to the chest means you can't cheese like the first.

i'm playing in survivor so idk if it's different in lower difficulties but the more damage you take the harder it is to do everything, you run slower, aim slower, crouch slower, etc.

The A.I. in this game is substantially superior to TLoU, one of the contributing factors for my distaste in the first game was how stupid the enemies felt.

The AI on Survivor is kinda ridiculous IMO. It's closer to what I remember Grounded being like than Survivor, though it's been 5+ years since I last played the first game so my memory may be off.
Like the fact that enemies naturally gravitate towards you for SOME REASON, even when completely motionless and hidden. My wife and I crack up everytime it happens. "Watch, that guy is going to 'coincidentally' check exactly where I am".
On the plus side, I've been able to use that to my advantage because the AI is rather dumb and manipulatable, leading to the classic stealth videogame situation where enemies keep checking the area where their comrade's bodies are mysteriously piling up :messenger_grinning_smiling:

I'm nearly done with this game

I'm on a boss fight with Abby. I'm running around trying to kill a stalker that pulled from the amalgamation monster. I don't have time to craft, don't have time to change my weapon and I'm continuously getting hit. You can't see where you're going which makes it impossible to enjoy or strategies. I've got it on the easiest setting, with autoaim turned up to full and it's not helping. It's just chaotic and not in the least bit fun.

Did anyone listen to the Vice Waypoint podcast review on this game?

At the risk of sounding defensive, I had a hard time buying their criticisms, which felt unfair in comparison to similar games, and maybe purposefully contrarian in general.
Then near the end Autsin Walker casually throws out that Sam and Henry are the "only black characters" in TLOU pt. 1, as if that is a point all by itself, let alone the fact that it's not even true.

The whole thing felt bizarre and biased to me.

I think thats it. In 2 days did about 25 hrs playing and i think that just some ending stuff is left , and its done. Wow what a journey it was.
How in the world do people find the time to burn so many consecutive hours? I wish my schedule allowed something like this.

That doesn't mean the AI is good though.
It COULD be better than TLOU, but it's far from perfect IMO. I've seen scenes where the player crawled through high grass while AI was facing them and they were able to grab them without issue. Also when AI sees where the player and/or AI partner goes for cover, and suddenly barks "Where'd she go?!" when the AI actively saw them hide behind a desk. This was all on Survivor.

For me it was just luck that on those days i had free days and was alone at home most time and it was just sinking into game being amazed surprised being sad or pissed even but it was so good i still thinking about it. Most movies this year was poor stupid same old movies that left no impact on me but this rly did.

Feels extremely excessive to me. Actually, it feels like someone at Naughty Dog was like "We have this crazy animation. Let's force our audience to watch it 1,000x". As a lover of stealth games since Metal Gear Solid, I think it was a poor design choice.
Not sure if you’ve played far enough to know, but there’s an upgrade that addresses your problem. Makes takedowns pretty much instant.

Play it on Survivor; the AI is much more environmentally aware on that difficulty.

Ahh shame didint get chance to make those explosives arrows but i never played like rambo too. And even i made that loot be more i allways had empty arrows bag and no way to make them that sucked they should let us have more them and craft easier. Bow and cross bow came too late in game and not enough arrows to use it for me i would just use it on everyone if i could.
Didint see point in raising difficulty at least not on loot i want loot as much as i can find but enemies can be harder sure, and then i used even extra options for some things in that weapons menu. Nice devs give us so much options for everything.

AHAH ok! I think I know what dat deal with the second half is...MAYBE.

(Haven't been spoiled, just placing some speculative bets.)

The main story finishes in the first half, and the second.... is all FLASHBACK. Called it!!

*winks at future self*

(P.S. Pls don't confirm, anti-confirm, or vaguely address this in any way, no, not even with an emoticon that equivalently serves as being open to interpretation, if you already have past this point of the game and/or beaten it. No, really. I mean, I could be wrong, and by some crazy off chance that I'm not, I could be right [as half-serious as that was]. But I wouldn't want to know it yet..!! >_<

'Nyway, back to not sleeping, 'cause it's for -- *yawn* zzzah. Ahem. Suckahs.)

EDIT: Ok, one (maybe, maybe not) final 'second half' prediction.

Ellie switches loyalties. It feels out of character as hell, but that's why they better make a damn good job of justifying it if true

This game is so fucking good! Everything about it! I don’t want to put it down and I’m so invested in every character. Damn! Plus, how is this a PS4 game?

Anyone else seeing weird glitches in the cutscenes like lighting effects disappearing or character animations relooping or disappearing altogether?

And in extra menu you can make that dodge even better. Never seen any other game would have so many extra options. Even for stealth
