TLoU Pt II: Remastered PS5 Pro patch drops (v1.2.0)

Maybe someone can try this out too but the 2.0 patch did something to the graphics of Part 1! The patch notes say they introduced a new rendering method for the Pro but on my standard PS5 the graphics are now worse than before. At least in Fidelity mode (which I prefer).

Foliage and fine detail like hair, Joel's beard and fences are flickering now. Everything looks way too sharp. Quick camera movement stutters now too. The game just looks "wrong" now.

This reminds me on Horizon Forbidden West at release. The fidelity mode in the game was overly sharp until they toned it down via patch!

I'm a little upset right now. It's my favorite game of all time, I have hundreds of hours played and it looked perfect the way it was.
I immediately noticed something was wrong when I booted it up yesterday with patch 2.0 applied...

I hate this. Their fucking Pro patches shouldn't influence the games on standard PS5!
Would be awful if true, Part I is my favorite game of all time as well and I found the previous version to be perfect.
Downloading 2.00 right now on the another PS5, just to be sure, should post a comparison in a 3-4 hours.

Good thing that no one is asking you to 😂
That's right. I'm not asking.

In all reality, I respect your opinion. Why waste time doing something you don't enjoy?

I deleted the game and installed it again from disc without updating it. I can't post a comparison but it's clear that the game looks different with patch 2.00 installed!

Man you are unfortunately right, they messed up their TAA.
Game looks much sharper but also infinitely less natural and pleasing as a result especially in motion, and it's definitely nowhere near as perfectly clean as it was before.
The pre-rendered look is completely gone while playing.

I know static pictures might tell a different story but 2.00 is unquestionably worse. If the PSSR image on Pro is going to be similar to this (but obviously more stable) I'll probably keep playing the game on my main PS5 while making sure it never updates.

I unfortunately messed up as well, as I realized too late the second PS5 captured screenshots in .jpg so keep in mind these are all compressed.

If someone plays on a regular PS5 and has yet to update, DO NOT.

CellarDoor81 CellarDoor81 many, many thanks for sharing.
And I am genuinely sorry for you, unfortunately the version on disc is missing some graphical detail like Joel reacting to water flowing on him (along with the splashes on him), and they fixed countless other issues with that absolutely *perfect patch 1.003:

*The only downside Anthony Caliber highlighted, the wheels visually not rotating while pushing the car with Bill, only affects speedruns and doesn't happen on a normal playthrough.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.

Hum...aren't they all the same?

Maybe it's harder to see on screenshots but in motion 2.0 definitely looks worse. Like Vick Vick said, the patch messed up their TAA.
I hope ND gets note and can fix this. The game is quite ugly now...

So I just booted it up. I only briefly tested. The bit I tried appeared to show no change with performance mode and additional/new sharpening in fidelity mode. I use fidelity unlocked with VRR. Didn't seem terrible to me, but I only tested for a short time and I just softened my TV's detail a small amount (on my Sony I can actually soften an image from its neutral zero sharpening). But I shouldn't have to rely on my TV's processing to help resolve.

Is the patch an issue in both fidelity and performance modes?
I only tried performance mode for a couple of minutes, I don't know if it's there too.
I contacted John from DF on X about this, maybe he can look into it.
And I sent a bug report on the Naughty Dog official site.
Let's see if something happens. 🤷🏻‍♂️

When was patch 2.0 released, last week? I can't believe no one noticed this before....
At least it didn't mess with Part 2.

I'm afraid this TLOU 1 taa sharpening won't be fixed. The same has happened to GT7 but it actually improved the game, because in that case, since version 1.49, it had really blurry TAA. Now it looks better IMO, in GT7 at least

I could suspect it has sumething to do with the PSSR and how the TAA feeds into it, but I won't be sure at all

Tested the v1.2.0 now and it's horrible. Like an artificial sharpening filter that causes shimmering and flickering in movement. This has to be some kind of an error, I can't play it like this.

EDIT: Could it be that the native render that the PSSR uses for upscaling has some sharpening that ends up improving the end result in the final frame and this setting is mistakenly activated to the base PS5 version too?

This is my thought as well. It must be a setting for the Pro that is accidently activated on base PS5?!
Or it's simply a different Anti Aliasing Method they are using from now on?

What's interesting is, the new patch with Pro enhancements for Part 2 didn't change anything (that I noticed at least) on base PS5. So I'm still hoping it's just a bug.

I got an answer from ND that they received my message and are looking into it...

Tbh even the early PS5 PRO footage and screens we have is like ‘yeah it looks a lot sharper but it also looks way more ‘video gamey’ and makes the art and models look worse. It’s like everything is over sharpened and somewhat posterized. That close up compared of the backpack shows it off well.
