Pretty much. In just about every survival action game out there, if you see a swarm a monsters coming your way, you are supposed to turn the other way and run - not continue shooting as fast you can hoping your bullets hit.

This is like staring down the chainsaw guy in RE4 hoping you nail a headshot while moving towards him.

LMAO, this is the best way to put it.

I've let a ton of my friends play the demo and I would say that 1/3rd of the people who play really have trouble with it in the sense of accepting the realism and not treating it as a video game.

It's funny how quickly they get good at the game once you say "c'mon man if you were trapped in a room full of zombies alone would your first decision be to fire off the gun? Why don't you try to take advantage of your environment? Don't you think holding a brick in your hand would be better than going in with your bare fists? etc."

I suspect no one said these things to the Polygon reviewer haha.

love the polygon hate, so entertaining how kids get their panties in a bunch over some guys opinion. The best part is that its a pretty positive review, and Kollars concerns seem appear valid - my biggest takeaway from his review is that the brutal violence committed by the main character doesn't fit with his character - and it's a character driven game.

Also, that AI clipping he's captured is unacceptable, I couldn't agree more that for a high quality cinematic game, that kind of egregious glitchiness is a huge buzz kill - i would definitely doc a point for that shit.

As for the shooting, nobody can comment until they've played it. After all, look at the precedent- Uncharted 3's aiming was so weird that they ended up patching it due to fan outcry and it still got a 10 from IGN and others.

That being said, the review itself seems more bullish than the score he gave it, but still, who really cares.

I played the demo, shooting felt fine. This is coming from someone who despises U3's shooting and aiming mechanics.

After all these reviews, I'm expecting it to be only Uncharted 2 level, so, in other words, a steaming pile of very good-looking, high-production shit.

Played the demo and the shooting is fine.

Uncharted 3 is awesome, and, for me, on par with part 2, but then again, I didn't go into it thinking it was going to be the game of the forever like some folks on GAF.

dat Uncharted 3 hate hyperbole...

Anyway, the week wait for TLoU is killing me! I pre-ordered the Survival Edition, so I won't be going out to find an early release copy (I know of one store that more than likely has it now, but I'm being patient).

Picked up these for $200 off Amazon as my new gaming headphones. I'm excited to try them out next week in TLOU.

Niiice, I just fired up the demo with my headphones, I never gamed with headphones before this game, I was suprised because i could actually make out where the clickers were approaching from it sounds awesome. Enjoy

Any reactions today from the Naughty Dogs after seeing the incredible reception this is receiving?
Yep arne in this very topic!

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I think all at the studio deserve every bit of praise (and criticism) for working their asses off to make this game and to make it the way they/we all wanted it to turn out. I love TLOU, but then I am a key example of teh bias. ;)

That being said, let's care less about score and start discussing what people have said, on either end of the spectrum. I'm more interested in that, now that I'm posting!

It took forfuckingever to get myself an avatar quote. Now that this one has done its job, I can change it again!

Uncharted has always sucked. Bad core gameplay, bad writing, whatever. It was great in art and sound, but that's not really all that important in terms of what makes a good game (unless reviews are concerned, in which case, it absolutely does).

I bet you thought gears of war 3 and judgement were a masterpiece then.

In terms of core campaign gameplay, Gears of War 3 is superb, as is Judgement's minicampaign. The regular Judgement campaign is awful, and I regret my purchase.

Since I'm curious what are some of your favorite games?

So... The Last of Us > Bioshock Infinite?
I'm smelling Game of the Year here.

But Bioshock Infinite wasn't that good... Metro: Last Light, for instance, is a much better game.

Max Payne 2, STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, Thief, System Shock 2, Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise, Age of Empires II, No One Lives Forever 2, Homeworld 2

Have any reviews talked about the AI? Like how it compares to the E3 demos? Sure we've seen enemies that search for you and work together but the AI shown then was much more that.

They communicated, they reacted dynamically to the situation, they had self preservation, they seemed human. That dynamic is what impressed me the most.

Has any review talked about this or mentioned how the AI is, beyond that they flank you, hunt you down, etc."

Uncharted Alan Wake has always sucked. Bad core gameplay, bad writing, whatever. It was great in art and sound, but that's not really all that important in terms of what makes a good game (unless reviews are concerned, in which case, it absolutely does*n't).

So easy.

Holy shit it's Derrick's alt account!

What an objectively awful opinion. Really the only thing people may have legit arguments is if they don't like the gunplay. lol bad writing. Quick avatar change, I guess we're fishing here.

Honestly, everything I've seen about the game has me excited, other than having an AI companion (and reviews all agree this is a problem, from what I've seen), and the fact that Naughty Dog hasn't made a good game at all this generation. :|

Holy shit it's Derrick's alt account!

wat

where is he, anyway?

Hopefully my face is a bit different after I try the demo.

Have an essay on Uncharted's bad writing, then.

Speaking of reviews, I recall sometime back, someone reviewed a Football Manager game and gave it like 3/10 or something.

What happened then? What do we say about that? Not their cup of tea? The game's not for everyone? That's just like their opinions, man....?

Derrick got kicked out of his parents house for disliking watches and now lives with Totobeni. They take turns posting replies.

Its his opinion and even still we haven't played it. Who know he could end up being right on the money.

Even he was right on the money in terms of score given, it wouldn't be for the reasons he talked about in his review.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the shooting in this game. (I've played the demo numerous times now).

:lol

Gears of War 3 is great, fuck the haters. Better shooting than UC2, that's for damn sure. And I love that game.

Horde mode in Gears 3 is some of the most fun I've had all gen!

Grears is garbage vs Uncharted in every way. There is no comparison between a generic overrrated franchise like Gears (where you cant even jump) to Uncharted - the pinnacle of action adventure games
