Ghost of Yotei | Review Thread

You can't trust reviews when it comes to games at the heart of the culture war.

We saw Kinda Funny pretend Dragon Age and Concord were great games. We will see more of this as the war rages on, unfortunately.

For $70 and a five year wait time... yeah?

Honestly, what will this game give me over replaying ghost of Tsushima and watching GoY story scenes on YouTube? I'm not saying it's a bad game and that I probably won't enjoy it, but if you want $70 from me, you're gonna have to do more. This is in my $30 maybe someday file in my brain.
With that logic most Nintendo games should be free for the last 15 years or so.

I figured it would fall in the mid to high 80s range. It doesn't look like a badly made game or anything like that. I don't care about who voices characters. They did good on firing that one asshat the other week.

No "controversies" surrounding the game in my opinion. My issue is it looks like more of the same like the rest of Sony's games this generation. Last gen things felt fresh. This gen it feels like more of the same with added bloat that drags the experience down (Ragnarok, FW, etc). I'm just not feeling yet another open world game that involves sneaking into small camps with the worlds dumbest AI.

The games I mentioned before all reviewed well. But I was ready for them to end well before they ended.

Tell you what. I'll quit when the ugly antifa actress that got the main role quits. How bout that?

Counter argument? So Collin wasn't pushed out because leftists got offended by a "sexist" joke and people in the mainstream weren't actively promoting Left ideology and suppressing Right leaning or Christian ideology? Are you and I living in separate realities or did we not go through a period of "boring generic white male protagonist" backlash from journalists for years?

The bolded happened only a handful of times over 5 years. But my main point was that it's not like people like Colin aren't heard from or review games. Those people still work in the industry and their reviews are still being counted.

How many times has it happened in the opposite political direction? The "games media" has an extremely obvious left leaning bias and they wear it with honor. It's insane to try to gaslight people to think that that hasn't been the case for years and years.

There's a reason why a vast majority of journalists post on Era and not here.

Spiderman 2 should be an 80 at best.
GOW Rangorak as well.
HFW and Ratchet should be 70 like Days Gone.
DS2 75 for basically being a DLC.

But we are overrating games everywhere.
Halo Infinite at 87? LOL. More like 67.
Alan Wake 2 89? INSANE. Again, it is not a good game so shouldnt even be at 70.
Hellblade 2 is barely even a game and is sitting at 81. 1 below the legendary The Last Guardian. Go fuck yourselves!
FF7 Rebirth is literally a ubisoft copy pasta game that has a 92 metacritic.

I am not even going to go into silksong, hades 2, elden ring, donkey kong banaza, and mario kart because i dont want to get banned. But everything and especially the big games this gen have been getting overrated. It's not just a sony phenomenon.

KCD2 and Expedition 33 are the only games where ive agreed with the Metacritic. Everything else has been overrated to oblivion.

But the Metacritic USER Score for Spiderman 2 was a 8.7, so what would you say to that?

A big fan that isn't even interested in a second game? If that's how you feel, I won't question it.

Mansplaining isn't sexism per se. It's a man trying to explain (typically to a woman) about what she actually wants or feels, because he thinks he understands better. It's usually quite harmless and we all are always tempted to do it. Condescension is too generic. If there is a gender neutral term for "condescendingly explaining/pontificating what others want/feel/expect", then feel free to swap my word for something more appropriate.
you realize that, until someone recently invented the catchy concept of 'mansplaining', thereby intentionally inserting sex/gender overtones, we only had 'generic' words like 'condescending' & 'patronizing'?

The term mansplaining was inspired by an essay, "Men Explain Things to Me: Facts Didn't Get in Their Way", written by author Rebecca Solnit and published on TomDispatch.com on 13 April 2008. In the essay, Solnit told an anecdote about a man at a party who said he had heard she had written some books...

& that despite the fact that we have no word for 'womansplaining', there're loads of opinionated essays appearing every day on the internet (some even written by rebecca solnit herself) about all kinds of issues/concerns that could, if one was so inclined, to be referred to by using that word?...

i'd say there's no reason to ever default from non- gender neutral terms unless you're dead determined to bring sex/gender into the conversation. & that's just a personal opinion not another mansplaination...

Yes I realize that. But this debate on linguistics and etymology doesn't interest me. If you got the crux of what I said, as you seem to have and hence are taking this in an entirely different direction, I'm happy to concede that you have better diction and grasp of history.

Speak for yourself is all I'm saying. Enjoy your filet mignon while the rest of us settle for comfort food.

Are you mansplaning his mansplaning of your accusation of him mansplaning?

Am I now mansplaning your mansplaning of his mansplaning your accusation of him mansplaning?

dude:

i've got nothing whatsoever against 'comfort food', & i'm not using it in a pejorative sense. everyone (self included) loves comfort food! not everyone enjoys the same comfort food, & no one's choice of comfort food is any better than anyone elses (because that's just a moronic/impossible concept). hell, i've gone through the original ratchet & clank trilogy, the uncharted trilogy, the arkham trilogy, the yakuza games, & all kinds of other iterative game series multiple times. & greatly enjoyed myself. my reference to yotei as comfort food was not intended as a put-down. it's an iterative sequel to an original game, which, as i said, i enjoyed. but, unlike, say ratchet & clank or uncharted, i'm not personally ready for another go-round. that's it. otoh, i can't wait to play resident evil requiem, because resident evil's one of my comfort food series...

my post wasn't intended as a put-down. you've simply misinterpreted it, because it truly wasn't my intent. sucker punch's giving fans of tsushima a sequel. i'm just obviously not as big a fan as you are, is all. enjoy your comfort food...

(btw, the infamous series is also one of my comfort food series...)

No you are missing my point. I said that as sarcasm. You have assumed this game is comfort food for everyone without even knowing the actual details of the narrative and the impact it may have on a fan. Your intention may not have been to put-down, but the premature conclusion that it is comfort food (and that all fans expect that) comes across that way. It may be comfort food for some. It may be narratively intense and thought provoking for others. We won't even know until we all play it and figure out what there is to internalize, which is subject to our own life experiences and biases.

Most condescension is not intentional when it's coming from well meaning people. Given your response now, you seem to be well meaning. But you have to be in the reader's shoes to realize what I'm trying to convey.
