The Last of Us - Review Thread [Emargo up, scores in OP.]

Review scores usually mean dick, right? Gonna wait until the game comes out and I can get some non-paid, non-hype-machined opinions out of people.

I hate the word riveting.

I love it... when it actually applies. So I hope it applies!

But I don't really believe anything when reviewers say things about game stories. So far they've been wrong, oh, approximately 98% of the time I've ever seen them praise a game story so I have to judge for myself

This is from the summary:-

Honestly, I really hope The Last of Us does live up these glorious words that the reviewers have been showing this game with.

As a older gamer, I'm really looking more towards something that actually ATTEMPTS to move this industry forward (regardless of they fail or succeed at that).

This gen has been filled to the brim with games that I like to call "Me To" games. Games that try to copycat a successful formula, rather trying to be daring and do something different. So thank god Naughty Dog (and Irrational, and some other developers this gen as well) is at least trying to move the baton forward..for better or for worse, I least applaud them for that.

You have a point but let's be 100% realistic here, most people are sold on the game and are just using these reviews to further validate their own hype.
Well there's nothing new about that, happens with every game, there's almost always someone who is hyped about it.

The fun starts when people begin to meltdown over a 9/10 or a 4/5

The maturity so far in this thread has been excellent. I'm proud of you GAF.

I like to think Uncharted 3 delivered an important message.

But you'd think Twilight Princess already did that *shrug*.

What is the evidence for Polygon being pro-MS? Even if they are, is there any evidence of them being particularly anti-Sony?

Well I've seen quite a few people say that Arthur Gies is pro-Microsoft, right back to when he first got known to us on Rebel FM.

I don't agree with that line of thought, just think that might be where it comes from.

Personally, I don't think any major website is "biased" towards one platform or company.

I went back to the infamous Twilight Princess thread and there is some, but little to compare. (Especially in comparison to that stupid Uncharted 3 thread)

It also make me appreciate the current level of moderation.

Jesus christ.

EatChildren you did you play the demo?

Nup. Not a fan of God of War, so I don't have access to it. But that's okay. I have all three Uncharted games and enjoy them well enough. From what little I've seen The Last of Us seems more like my kind of game, Naughty Dog focusing more on the actual mechanisms, their integration and development across an entire game worth of encounters and set pieces, and more dynamic, reactive play. I like Uncharted, but I don't love it, and the series doesn't represent what I love about this medium. The Last of Us looks far more closer to the kind of game I want to play.

I've also been on a pretty heavy unintentional blackout, so I don't know a lot about it. Enough to excite, but with a ton of room to know I'm going pretty blind with a lot of it. That should make it all the more enjoyable.

Well, it seems quite likely that was a very different group of people, given the time difference.

Wait for TLoU3 review thread.

True that.

If you want a more recent over the top reaction then go look in the HALO 4 thread when the EGM review hit.

they grouped playstation into one submenu on their site, but gave xbox two, TWO submenus distinguishing between 360 and xbone

what else do you need man, good lord

Yeah this game is different in alot of ways compare to Uncharted.

WAT. Some guys on a Swedish forum are reporting that they have already recieved their copies of the game ordered from Webhallen.com. I'm so placing an order right now.
