Yeah the touching the wall was a bit much.

My biggest gripes with Uncharted 3:

1. Overuse of Spiders (We get it, you made the tech now you have to use it 4 times).

2. Logical gaps in story (Talbot, Talbot Talbot).

3. Rushed ending.

4. I didn't like the design of the Atlantis of the Sea as much as Uncharted 2's Shambhala.

My highlights:

1. Best set pieces of the entire franchise, hands down. Also the best puzzles in the series.

2. Fantastic interaction and character development between Drake and Sully.

3. Cool new additions such as vertical cover, improved melee and throwing back grenades.

4. Unbelievably stunning presentation. Best looking console game bar-none.

In the end, Uncharted 3 nails what matters most and is a rousing success for me.

Just finished playing UC3 last night, and I'd mostly agree with all of that. Maybe not number 4 in the gripes as I did find that city pretty stunning.

Definitely the best set pieces though. I especially loved the horseback scenes.

Also fighting giant Jimmy Hopkins 5 times was a bit fucking much. They couldve chopped it down to two and even then it wouldve been weird. They shouldve kept one Jimmy and it shouldve been on the cargo plane.

Square square square triangle square circle X20 square square triangle triangle triangle square square square win

I think it was more the underground part of the city that didn't click with me. Not a big deal at all in the grand scheme of the game. (That's why it's listed as 4). Just a minor gripe.

Watch this part. He simply sucks at the game, I don't mean that as an insult, just watching him shoot is painful.

This isn't a run and gun game, and he's clearly moving all over the place when taking shots. You are supposed to stand still, catch your breath (the reticule will minimize) and then take your shot.
Wow....

Probably your best bet, I personally like having physical copies of games.

You're in for quite the ride laddy ;)

Same here. I'm just a bit worried since my Ps3 is showing some (static?) on the screens when playing digital games. So overall disc is my best bet.

Edit: Just on loading screens though.

I don't have a problem with him being bad at it at not enjoying it as much, but he blames the game itself for having bad gunplay instead.

I played the demo, no such issue with the shooting like that. As I said this isn't Uncharted, this is stop and pop gunplay like RE4.

I'm jealous. I wish I could play Uncharted 2 for the first time again.

My save file from 3 years ago was at 3 hours 40 minutes, 41%, so I've already played a decent bit of the game.

But I forget everything. It's like I'm playing it for the first time again. I started over, obviously.

I'm seriously freaking out at how much I'm enjoying Uncharted 2 right now.

Sorry I havent been keeping up. Are you playing for the first time? I remember reading about how your PS3 has been sitting there with dust for years or something before you were interested in TLOU. The UC franchise is amazing.

I feel bad for Phil because I liked him from when he was back with 1UP (I liked his review on Persona 4 for the PS2 on the 1UP show). I do feel that ultimately, it's up to the person who is reviewing the game and how it clicks for them. I do feel that if he had that much of a problem while playing the game, they should have seen if someone else at Polygon could play TLoU. I also feel that was the problem with Remember Me reviews too. When I watch the Quick Look of Remember Me, it astonish me how bad Jeff was at it and tried to blame it on the game. Sometimes some games just don't click with people.

Not to jump on the bandwagon here, but it looks like he is trying to play the game like its RE4.

I'm convinced that the masterful use of depth of field and motion blur is what makes Uncharted 2 look "good for a console game".

The aliasing isn't even really that bad. The frame rate is kind of making me sick, though.

He just doesn't get that you can't just stand there and take your time to shoot down the enemies. You're supposed to run when 3 of these guys come at you. He's standing there slowly backing up, hoping to kill one of the clickers EVEN THOUGH he knows that you die in one shot... That's called stupid.

That reviewers reaction was the complete opposite of mine when I got rushed trying to shoot the infected in the demo. He just sits there, keeps missing, and gets surrounded.

Me - "oh fuck" quick turn sprint around the level about 3 times looking for bricks or anything. I was seriously clenching as I ran around looking for anything to Melee with. Managed to find a piece of wood, and a brick, but holy shit it was intense.

Pretty much. In just about every survival action game out there, if you see a swarm a monsters coming your way, you are supposed to turn the other way and run - not continue shooting as fast you can hoping your bullets hit.

This is like staring down the chainsaw guy in RE4 hoping you nail a headshot while moving towards him.

Yeah but the acting, cutscenes and mocapped facial expressions...

Thats what I love most about ND. Pretty similar to my feelings about Ninja Theory. ND and NT know how to nail down facial expressions like no tomorrow as well as acting and cutscene direction

Holy crap he sucks at this game lol. What the hell is up with this? Playing the demo I'm about 1000% more accurate and tactical than this guy is.

I'm really happy to see how amazingly high this game is being scored. Really looking forward to playing this on release.

Only thing I'm sad about is that the game will probably not sell all that well because it's not a brainless shoot thousands of aliens game. When you don't aim for the lowest denominator you only get the gaming minority.

I'll be surprised if it sells less than 5 million.

How is the shotting / explore+story+other stuff ratio?

I don't really feel like playing yet another action-cinematic-unchartedish-quick-time-tunnel.

Story and setting look interesting tho.

Aw man. Get on that. The influence in TLOU is strong. Real strong.

The first time I stirred up that group of runners in the demo, it felt just like Manhunt when you had a ton of guys after you and were sprinting away desperately trying to lose them. Manhunt was so intense.

Man I've been unsure if I should get this but I'm on the verge of ordering Joel edition right now. I don't know tho...

It's kinda funny because I've bought hardly any of the PS3 exclusives this gen but this looks pretty darn good. I've got too much in my backlog as it is and Animal crossing comes out on the same day I think in the UK :(

love the polygon hate, so entertaining how kids get their panties in a bunch over some guys opinion. The best part is that its a pretty positive review, and Kollars concerns seem appear valid - my biggest takeaway from his review is that the brutal violence committed by the main character doesn't fit with his character - and it's a character driven game.

Also, that AI clipping he's captured is unacceptable, I couldn't agree more that for a high quality cinematic game, that kind of egregious glitchiness is a huge buzz kill - i would definitely doc a point for that shit.

As for the shooting, nobody can comment until they've played it. After all, look at the precedent- Uncharted 3's aiming was so weird that they ended up patching it due to fan outcry and it still got a 10 from IGN and others.

That being said, the review itself seems more bullish than the score he gave it, but still, who really cares.

Dude it's that, it's the bricks and bottles, the quiet brutal kills and executions, the gritty enviro and ambient soundtrack. It's all there. I love it. So glad I still own the OG Xbox copy.
