The Last Remnant |OT| of DON'T LISTEN TO REVIEWERS!

Yeah that's a weird decision...it's probably because some need to be in your party for a long time before they get a drop that they ask for as well...I mostly kept the same additional soldiers I first selected through the whole game so far,I only switch my leaders every once in a while so they level up also.I didn't buy anything yet though that says "race specific" at the shops, maybe i'll try that now that i'm over 200k in money.

I got the new free DLC and with the other 2 from before being free as well,I said what the hell and grabbed the 100 pts DLC as well...didn't try the formation yet though.Right now BR 67 and doing the runaround quest for that treasure for the old man...after one guy though,I'm not sure where to go because the clue doesn't give a location per say...

Up to about br70, running some quests in disc 2. Game is becoming a favorite, lots to do and a battle system that welcomes much experimentation.

As always I like to use leaders I don't often hear about others using (if ever), notably Nikita rocks as an Invocations/Blackout specialist and that mean little dual-wielding qsiti Acokus I have been using for quite a while. He dual wields, and has upgraded to a devastating purple-tinged Bladebreaker (iirc) in one hand. He really rips into almost everything...but is very special purpose in my build with no extra abilities and low hp contribution to a union.

So of course I go out of my way to use him, usually led by or leading all-rounder Rush.

Well some mobs that are actually a good challenge finally spawned in the ancient ruins. Plan to grind there to get my HP up and then hopefully beat the rest of the boss gauntlet after I get back from my trip to Nara.

I still have to say that my opinion of the game dropped a lot because of these recent problems I have ran into. The fact that I spent a couple of hours collecting these remnant items which I can't even use just annoys me to no end.

I wonder if it isn't that they won't equip them but that they can't?

There's a few things about the game I dislike, but the only thing I HATE is the rarity of the rare monsters for the guild quests. I spent like two hours to get one to spawn, and after that said screw it. That's with using the guides that tell you want to look for in the enemy groups, but even if the raptor isn't sleeping, the bastard still doesn't always show up. Lame.

Nope because one guy did take one of them. And they aren't race restricted or anything. They just haven't asked for them. One is even just an accessory so there is no reason why they couldn't.

Must be the game's advanced AI telling you that you don't need them. The power to win was in your heart all along.

Go to the Heroic Ramparts and instead of going right, hang a left and exit that way. You'll find a city. That's where Bloctor's Fighting Tournament quest is.

Thanks. Damn I had that feeling I was missing a city on disc 1. Forgot to go back through that zone after story part. >_<

Alright so as promised I am getting a 360. Tales of Vesperia and Blue Dragon will be my first RPGs. Soon to follow are Lost Odyssey and Last Remnant, when either:

a) they get a price drop
b) I finish the others first

I'm so anxious to start playing next-gen JRPGs. The PS3 has been entirely devoid, save 2 awesome SRPGS (Disgaea 3, Valkyria Chronicles).

Call me crazy...but you know what I look forward to? Having to swap the discs. Yeah.

Woooo! Futureshop had Last Remnant for sale for $19. Ordered the fuck out of that.

Man about to break out some Christmas cash on this and that is a great price. Best I found was $40 from Amazon. Does Futureshop deliver to the US?

Just finished LO and started this one. The battle system confused the hell out of me at first. Getting used to it now and starting to appreciate it's flexability. I've got a long way to go especially since I'm simultaneously doing my first ever playthrough of FFVII. Switching between them is kinda disorienting at times. :lol

the important thing is not BR, but your attributes and abilities, try engaging those little enemies as few as possible, use timeshift to escape from enemies, only do fighting with rare monsters and boss

Just got this game for Christmas (along with Banjo and Sonic, loving both right now)!!

It looks awesome. The battle system looks crazy and the characters are all very cool looking.

I'm thinking I need the strategy guide for this one before I dig my teeth into it though. It looks like Infinite Undiscovery where it has a ton of hidden depth.

Does anybody have the guide and recommend it?

I don't want to get 50 hours plus into the game only to find that I would have done things much differently if I had known how to play the game properly from the start.

No I don't want the guide for cheating. I want to get the most out of the game.

Are those recruited leaders supposed to level up & gear up automatically even if they are not in the battle team? I replaced Nora (the big hummer chick) at BR 50 with another guy weeks ago (still kept her in team) and last night I just found her somehow fully upgraded her weapon into some epic shit with 168 ATK @_@. She never asked me for anything after I dropped her.

I'm on #40, which should be the last side quest for me on disk 1 since I didn't answer the questions right to unlock the special side quest. It'll be a nice feeling to finally be moving on.

I'm not completly sure how this works as well...maybe they half level or something,I know that if i switch to a leader I haven't used in a while, after the first battle with him,he always gains a lot of stuff at the battle result screen.

I am totally pissed off by those little monsters while I was trying to dig some components for my other leaders...

is there anyway changing the status of those monsters from aggressive to heart?

Dumb questions here.
Where can i find the DLC dungeon (in-game, i mean)? Also, are there easily missable areas? I almost missed out on baluuk (sp...), ghor and me... me-something. Any other place i might be missing out on? Thanks.

How do I get to Royotia?
I need their sexy materials to upgrade my goddamned weapons.
I wish I could upgrade sometime, but while I have shittonnes of ingredients, every time I want to upgrade a weapon I have, it requires 3 items I have never even seen. So awesome.

In elyseon (sp?), try the barkeep i think. He/she'll tell you about places and towns in the area. They should tell you about a city in the desert, to the south. That place's called barre.. something with a B, some Rs, E and A. Go there, then you'll be able to find directions to go to royotia.
Be warned tho, they didn't have their own metal the first time i stopped by. The first time i found some royotia stuff was in
blackdale's second entrance, on a quest from the albino dude from ghore
.

You can get to Royotia from the southern exit in the sand sea. Head through Lavabender and you will get there. But I've never found any Royotian Steel for sale there; you need to find it by digging.

I'm pretty sure there's one vendor who sells it there. I know I've bought it without having to dig.

There wasn't any Royotian Steel for me the first time I reached the town, I had to dig for it too. But when I later visited the town again it was for sale, so I thought that you had to dig for it once before you can buy it.

Same experience here. Found it through digging first. I think they only sell it once you've reach a certain point in the story.

I have a question for the Last Remnant vets in here.

I am still towards the beginning of the game, Battle Rank 4, and am still confused about something very basic in this game.

Is there a way to tell what the best mode of attack against another enemy union is? Is there a way to know when it is best to do normal attacks, combat arts, mystic arts, etc?

Usually in Japanese RPGs there are some visual or UI indicators which give you hints as to which attack has the most damage potential.

Or is this game not like other RPGs where water does massive damage against creatures with fire elements (for example) and it is more about managing your AP points?

Even so, how do you tell when it is best to use mystic arts or to use combat arts aside from obvious "we must save the union that's about to die, so use healing" scenarios.

LOVE the game but want to understand its systems better.

Thanks for any help.

in the beginning its not that important since the monsters are not overpowered

but after the beginning of disk2, there will be lots of "holy crap" kind of monsters and bosses

and I suggest do the stat grinding earlier, like avoiding fighting little monsters, cuz if you fight a lot with weaklings, the BR gets higher but your stats not matching the BR, and you will find battle like a pain

once you have 18 ppl available to distribute among unions, the strategy is kinda obvious, tank union + damage delivering union + mystic arts union(Pagus is best, since he will learn blackout and megalore these kinds of massive destructive arts)+healer(later on your sister is the best choice of leaders)

consider about managing AP pts, more like managing the strategy between rounds, not manage who using who this sort of stuff; and there are not scenarios like "when using this when using that", it totally depends on you since both mystic and combat arts are very powerful(but if you wanna fight
the Fallen
, you have to use lots of ridiculous high level combat arts though, mystic arts is now supporting role)

Yeah Irana rocks with her awesome revive spell, the last quest I did was a long fight that ended with a Hive Queen Boss and if I didn't have her in a Union,I would of probably failed...it's been said a few times but ''Curse" is the worst spell ever in this game hehe...

My current problem is finding someone who can use items and fits into my mystic arts group. Everyone I find who can use items has much higher ATK than MYS. I put them in the group and it seems the group never wants to use mystic arts. Or maybe one person will while the rest attack and a bunch of AP sits around unused.

Do formations play any role in that? I've noticed similar actions. This is one game a guide would be useful for.

Hell yes. I finished the first disc, and I still feel I really don't understand how formations work, though when I set all my groups on mystic mountain, Gates of Hell was a pushover. I don't actually know why though. My groups tend to use the attacks I want them to though.

I finished the story mode, I'm kind of sad there's no achievement for at least showing you completed it.

Oh well screw it, I need to do all the side stuff now and hunt down some rare mobs.

I have literally spent ALL DAY on Gates of Hell... 10 hours. I'm BR67 so I would have thought I should be able to tackle it comfortably. I would buy DLC to avoid this POS fight since beating it seems to be more luck than skill (i.e. let me heal myself each turn you stupid fucking game AARGH no I don't want to go into battle again when I know he'll kill me at the start of the turn WHY WONT YOu LET ME DO IT AARGH)

Tips?

I had same amounts of problems with Gates of Hell and thought it was luck, not skill. But it is skill.
For me to win, I had to make sure someone on each union could use revival items. Rush and Bolgan each had them already so I just had to go pick up one generic guy to fill out my unions.
Then, I had to stock up on items. I only had a few and they never wanted to use them. Now they use them a lot more frequently since they are in abundance.
The third thing was balancing my groups. For some reason I first thought it made sense to have balanced unions. Someone to tank, someone to cast healing magic, someone to do combat arts and someone to do mystic arts but you want unions that do those things specifically so that they can combine to do massive damage. I went from dealing a couple thousand damage with Rush's union to over 10k damage just by swapping around characters I was already using. Although you will want someone on each team who can heal to some extent.

Pulling out is also a strategy that you really have to get down. I was basically swapping out unions every round against Gates of Hell. Once I reworked my unions, I beat him in two tries.

There should be a guide out by now. Think I am going to go get lunch and pick it up.

Do you have at least one person in each union that can heal and use a revive herb? It's best to have one union dedicated to healing as well.

Cyclops makes a decent tank and helps to keep attention away from your guys which gives them a chance to get everyone back up.

Tips for most boss fights:
1.Do NOT let all your unions engage with the boss. Always spare 1 or 2 'healing' team(s) and keep them standing by.

2. If you need your healing team do something, select 'refresh them' instead of 'healing them with no cause'. If your team has more than 2 healers that can cast refresh and heal, most likely the 2nd or 3rd one will cast a healing spell instead of standing by. In most of time this option will let your healing team heal BOTH of your teams.

3. If you want your assault team heal themselves but simply can't find any 'keep your HP up' (fight and heal) option, just select the 2nd option (cancel deadlock and heal) but be sure to let another team deadlock the boss or it will assault your team which makes the situation even worse.

4. For bosses with massive AOE skill/spells, make sure your formation doesn't reduce your team's mobility. High mobility can allow you have a high chance of dodging AOE attacks.

Here's a very simple solution. First, build three unions of five members, make sure there's at least two healers per union. Also, make sure to bring hexes and missile attacks for ranged damage. In battle, keep your focus on the minor enemies, so that the summon is the first to attack Gates of Hell. It'll keep focused on the cyclops with its attacks, and just soak the damage. Have one union close with the Gates, one attack at distance, and one heal. As long as you manage them well, you shouldn't have a single union go down.
