The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky PC |OT|

This isn't a port though, it's the original game (but with lots of enhancements). The PSP version was a port.

I did forget about the new renderer Sara mentioned in that writeup though, that could be the source of the issues more than the new font specifically.

Well, 'port' is the wrong phrase here. It's a problem with Japanese PC games in general, and a side effect of the PC market there playing second fiddle to consoles. There just seem to be a raft of issues that are common among many Japanese PC games, including lack of adjustable resolution, locked framerates on 3D games that could otherwise run at much higher framerates on modern hardware, reliance on older/outdated technologies for peripheral support (like using DirectInput instead of Xinput for controllers, if controllers are even supported at all), and so on. They're not insurmountable problems, but at this point they're practically expected.

None of the issues have affected my enjoyment of the game though - I can live with high res fonts disabled since I'm running the game in a window at relatively modest resolution, and the old font is still perfectly readable. I'm sure the high res font bug will get fixed soon enough.

I've played up to the part where you
save the kids from the tower
and the only issue I've had so far is the doubled, green and purple movies. Managed to fix it by switching to windowed. However I think I'm gonna hold off until they get the Monster Book implemented. Hopefully it won't be too long.

I'm thinking it might be best for now to release a patch that disables the high resolution font renderer until it can be fixed - at least that way there is a stopgap that prevents customers from crashing until this can be figured out =/

I see the Japanese voice mod I released to appease the boycotters made the rounds over night. Glad to remove an excuse people had for not buying the game.

Found a problem with the "Liberl News - Issue 2"

How...is that even happening? I literally just checked it not 5 minutes ago (because those images have been persistent issues) and it's perfectly aligned. I can't imagine a different resolution being the problem... Just really, really weird.

Those images in the Liberl News have their own little set-up in the script files, so they don't have anything to do with the code itself. I'll ask Sara about it once she's available.

EDIT: Already found the issue, ha ha! Should be all well and good in the next patch.

Didn't know about this, well done.

I couldn't help but laugh at your reaction, this game must be driving you people fucking insane lol.

I can't believe a handful of battle voices would actually be an excuse to not buy a game lol.

Anyways, just started the game last night and somehow it was 1am when I went to bed. I suppose that's a good thing.

A little insane. I'm actually...confused all over again about the Liberl News image popping up wherever, because what I was expecting to be the problem doesn't seem to be the problem. But, well, gonna do what I can.

I don't understand this either. Does the Japanese version use well known voice actors that people would be attached to? I'm trying to imagine why someone would care otherwise.

Some people are just against English voice acting no matter what.

There were people actually, seriously suggesting XSEED get their own Japanese audio if they couldn't license the original.

I recall being amused at the format that these books are stored in

Fixed spacing with coordinates for embedded images. Such a Japanese dev thing to do.

I keep getting my hopes up for an s-break fix but I know it'll probably be a while before she gets to that. I just haven't really had any other issues so it's the only thing that's been bothering me. /selfish

Are you using your right thumbstick for anything? I mapped the four cardinal directions to 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the keyboard for the s-breaks. Works well.

Oh, no, I know how that's done. It's just that it's basically 1:1 with the 640x480 resolution, so fixing it in that resolution should apply to all resolutions. And it's nowhere near looking like that there. I initially thought that I had accidentally adjusted it based off of the 1366x768 res, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I did adjust it a little anyway, since the first image somehow reverted.

Oh, I wasn't saying you didn't know, I was just commenting on how silly I think the format is.

When I said I was looking at TitS on my computer and it froze I got funny looks

But yeah, glad they went through GOG for this. I'm still hoping for SOME physical release of SC, though T_T

Absolutely. The game is special just about everywhere one can think.

Whenever I get the chance, I'd like to adjust the text in the Liberl News and the various novels to extend to the end of the page horizontally, but that'll be for another day. That was enough fun in the Bracer Notebook (which actually had to be readjusted twice since the HD font took up more space as we discovered). Just getting the images in their correct spot seems to be the problem to focus on for now, though. Looking at the other issues since I have a save with all of them, the rest shouldn't be a problem. But we'll see, ha ha.

Holy shit. When you say "a Japanese dev thing", do you mean Japanese devs still do this?

Yeah turning off the hd font seemed to fix everything for now. The only weird thing that happens is that my controllers buttons don't work right away for some odd reason.

I stick to using the 1-4 keys on the keyboard - it's nice to reach for the keyboard and slam that key down when I'm ready to strike fear into my enemies.

(Well that, or I'm too lazy to remap the S-Break buttons to the right analog stick.)

This goes back to my previous comment about Japanese PC games. They definitely used to (and often still do) go into PC development with a console mindset, where everything targets one device and runs at one resolution, so everything gets hard-coded as a result. When things stay in the console world, that's usually been fine, but it's the cause of a lot of technical issues, especially when a dev comes along later trying to add at least basic PC support in the form of adjustable resolution.

I've encountered it in recent games. And even Falcom is still doing it, because the books in Zero and Ao are in a similar format. I haven't seen what Sen no Kiseki's look like though. EDIT: Just checked, they're using a different format.

Can you see how many people downloaded your file?

Doesn't look that way. I probably should've chosen a different file host that offers stats like that.

Jesus christ, I can totally understand this if the game was fully voiced, but in this case... Come the fuck on

Wait... you can understand having a bunch of American game publishers record an original Japanese voice track instead of an original English voice track, as long as the game is fully-voiced?

Ah, no, I meant that boycotting a game cause of such a tiny thing as battle voices being in English rather than Japanese sounds ludicrous to me. I don't think I quoted the post I was meant to quote lol

I did that with joytokey and It took me 40 seconds.

I ended up mapping the map rotate to the left / right on the right joystick and just use the keyboard for s-breaks (or use the menu during my normal turn if I don't need to interrupt a turn versus a boss or something.)

I would like to see a Japanese dub by Xseed employees and their family members. Recordings can be done in one take and extreme room for errors. In fact, I don't think anyone will notice since many of these "Japanese dub or nothing!" people tend to not know Japanese :p We need someone to continue the Chaos Wars spirit.

XSEED recording their own Japanese voice acting for the game and putting it in on April Fools day or something would be pretty hilarious.

And Tom already has experience. He should be good to go.
