The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky PC |OT|

The cliché are so strong in this game, I can already see the ending... But it is still entertaining overall.
Time to backtrack the whole final dungeon to open every chest and gain some level now.

Really enjoying the game and I still haven't run into any glitches so far.

The only things I wonder about is the Job Board. Is there a way to look at what a job entails without selecting to do said job?

Also, feels weird that I'm using my controllers Select and Start buttons to move the camera so I'm gonna try to adjust that as well.

You dont select a job, you just add it to the Bracer Notebook. You arent restricted to a job if you check it at the board.

I was afraid there might be some point in the game where you'd have to walk instead of run for whatever shenanigans reason, if it doesn't exist I'll just turn on auto run. Thanks

No, running should be your normal movement, just ignore the fact that there are 2 movement speeds.

So what's your theory? Use spoiler tags and don't worry, I wont tell you if you're right or wrong. Just curious.

*Vague Spoilers*
There is a part where the ability to walk is handy, but it's not until late in the game.

Ok so i already went to the final boss and from what i understood from the bad guy

He is being maniplated by someone, there's only one character in this game which role is unclear on top of having constant closed eyes (evil), glasses (evil) and a one time picture showing him with eyes opened revealing red eyes (evil) which i guess is responsible for everything and maybe has something to do about Joshua mysterious past (which i won't deny i have no idea what it could be, maybe some kind of child of war or something).

I'm positive than the plan of the final boss will backfire somehow and result in us fighting against some kind of ancient weapon

As for the ending since i heard it basically didn't finished at all, i'd say Jerkua (that's how i call him already) pull out a Sasuke on poor Estelle after she confess and ear his tragic story, and he will probably pretend to hug her or something to KO her so he can run away.

This is what i'm forseeing.

That last dungeon... i guess i'll pay the price for barely fighting anything the whole game :(

No i never played this before.

Just finished it right now actually, Java also managed to make me fight the final boss another time
(yes the last form)
because it asked me to update the thing and thus closed the game, which was kinda irritating
especially with his amusing habit to one shot my poor characters
Joshua past, even if still kinda vague, was still surprsing and while i expected him to
pull off a Sasuke i didn't expected the game to actually end that brutally, poor Estelle.

Looking forward to the next game, but i hope it will be less predictable because seriously i was never really that surprised, of course i was far from being 100% accurate.

(Regarding the spoilered ending discussion above) Am I the only one here who has no idea what
"pulling a Sasuke"
means? I get it now because of context of course but yeah...

It was shorter than explaining the whole thing,
guy who suffered in his past and end up leaving his friend behind or betraying them, there was almost no other option at this point in the game really, and with a decent focus on Estelle growing love it wasn't hard to see how it would go...
but yeah i shouldn't have used this terrible expression, my bad.

Guess this is an issue with the new renderer, but this happens during chapter 3 in Zeiss. Happens no matter where you're at, the outside borders are clear of the haze.

When it happens.
This is when the central factory is being smoke bombed.

Welp, I tried to start this game again today. I got through the opening sequence. Got through the sewers and the battle tutorial. Got my badge from the lady. Walked outside and the game crashed, before I could save once. I'll throw this is in the backlog for now, hopefully it's stable at some point.

The game autosaves constantly. Check page 0 on the load screen, there are almost definitely 10 recent saves waiting for you.

6 hours in, going into the Mine for the first time.
No crashes yet, although I'm worried about that glitched chest. Will stop playing when I hit this spot and it isn't fixed yet.
Game is so much better with Zanmai version of main battle theme it's not even funny. Any good boss battle replacements out there?

You know which chest it is so just avoid talking to it, you can still get what's inside.

Sorry if this has been covered but I've never played any version of this and want to pick it up. For practicality's sake, I'd like to get the PSP version (on Vita), but if the PC version is better for any reason, I'll reconsider.

Opinions?

I'm going for the chest achievement, so kind of need to have that one in working order.

Do you need to "speak" to all chests in a single playthrough? I think all you need is to keep a single save file that you can return to for a minute once the chest is patched.

I believe the Steam version is using some of the PS3 version's assets but I could be wrong. I haven't booted my Steam version up yet, although I bought it at launch, the PSP version is perfectly competent though, either way you're supporting XSeed I'm assuming.

I imagine depending on when/how it ticks off the chest you can go a step further and save right before "talking" to it, do so, then load the save then continue the game otherwise.

PS3 assets will be introduced with a patch. It definitely looks better than on PSP but if portability is a big factor I advice going with the PSP version.

Can anyone remind me how to replace music? I know I need to convert to ogg but I forgot the rest.

Depends on his region. If he lives in Europe and wants to support Xseed's work on Trails he's probably better off buying it on Steam/gog, since the PSP game is published by Ghostlight around here.

Once converted to .ogg you just need to rename the file and put it into the BGM folder of the game. If you want to replace the battle music, you will want to call the file ED6400.ogg. (Don't forget to save a copy of the original ED6400 somewhere, though!)

Thanks, I thought I needed to do something else.

Yeah graphics aren't really too much of a concern; I'm more wondering about content and presentation (like UI and controls). If it's a level playing field between the two then the PSP version would do fine.

edit: I'm in the US, so it's still XSEED.

Yeah, sounds like PSP would work well for you, then. The only things of note you'll be missing out on are achievements (if you care about them) and some slight translation tweaks (which won't mean toooo much to you if you're not a hardcore series fan).

The other question is: Do you like this battle track well enough to listen to it for the next 30 hours or so? :p

You can replace it in the PC version with something else (for example with this), which you obviously can't on PSP. Having played Trails on both the PSP and PC, I'm not kidding when I say that I'm enjoying the game a lot more since I replaced the original track.

Thanks, I thought I needed to do something else.

If you want the track to loop more elegantly you also have to set a couple loop tags as explained in this post. That's completely optional, though - the music will still loop even if you don't set the tags.

I've completed the PSP version of the game and it looks great, plays great and feels great, especially on Vita. PC version looks better and has achievements. So I suppose PSP version would be a good match for you.

You are talking as if the combat theme is terrible. It's not exactly Man with a machine gun but it's not bad. :) Pretty easy on my ears anyways.

Also, you've linked the same song twice.

Yeah, I rather like Sophisticated Fight. Quite a bit, in fact! Never grew old for me, and I actually prefer the original to its arranged versions.

To each their own, I suppose!

I haven't. One is the original, the other is the Zanmai arrangement.

And, of course, it's a matter of taste. I can just say that it's the one and only battle track in an RPG ever that completely drove me insane by the end - to a degree that I honestly started to run away from nearly every battle, because the fights just stopped to be any fun for me. Only because of a silly battle track. So, I like to point out that there's a simple way to change the music to prevent that something like this happens to any other person, too. Trails is a beautiful game and it would be a shame if someone couldn't fully enjoy it due to something as silly as the battle music.

I don't think the battle theme is particularly great, but it kind of melts into the background for me. At times even I hum along with it. It's like the standard Baten Kaitos battle theme in that regard, I'll hopefully be fine as long as it has some better themes (battle and overworld) moving on. Only on chapter one so far.

Rather than the theme, my main annoyance in battles is that I sometimes active an S-craft by mistake, and can't find a way to cancel it. Am I missing something? The meter refills quick enough but throwing away 200 CP on some critter nags me.

Yeah, I like it too but it's good to have options, it's a long game. I think the Zanmai version is definitely an improvement though.

i'm guessing he is talking about
Naruto, where Sasuke gives Sakura a hug who is in love with him then knocks her out and leaves to become evil in order to get stronger.
I know he replied already but in case you were wondering where it was from.

OK thanks, never watched Naruto.

Played a decent amount over the weekend, but still in the prologue. Really starting to get the hang of things now. Played a little bit of the PSP version before I got sidetracked.

It took me forever to get to GamePad settings thatI liked, between the Config tool and JoytoKey. Is there anyway to de-associate buttons from a gamepad in the config?

Glad you specified standard Baten Kaitos and not Baten Kaitos Origins, because Valedictory Elegy is pretty much the BEST BATTLE THEME EVER, and I would've had to challenge you to a duel if you'd spoken ill of it. ;)

Honestly, I prefer "The True Mirror" but they're both great.
