Same thing happened back in Rolent during the 'Replace the Orbment Light' job by having Estelle take care of the monsters while Joshua did the actual replacing. I thought it was the 'safe' i.e. the better choice, but I lost out on the extra BP.

I think you're mistaken in this case, actually. I don't think it matters which character you chose in that particular quest.

According to both FAQs on GameFAQs currently available, you gain one extra BP by choosing to have Joshua fight the monsters.

EDIT: to be more specific, you must choose to have Estelle do the actual replacing, and correctly input the right code for the +1 BP. I doubt you gain anything if you put the code in wrong.

According to a couple of Japanese guides, you get +1 BP regardless of who you choose. You need to input the code correctly if Estelle changes the lights, and you need to win the fight if you have her fight, but looks like +1 BP regardless.

So you mean to tell me that I totally reloaded my save at that point for nothing after realizing that I 'screwed up'? =(

The FAQs are wrong then.
Fight the monsters - +1
Input the code and get it right - +1
Input the code and get it wrong - No bonus.

Double checked in the game to be sure.

Oh, thankfully. I was already cursing for missing the extra BP, the game makes it quite obvious that Joshua is the better choice so it would have been so unfair to deny that one BP. And since I already cleared it on PSP right now I am trying to get max BP, so it would have been so frustrating if that was the case.

Each quartz has as an associated buff and elemental value. The name of the quartz is derived from the buff (ie HP 1,2,3 all boost HP). If you want more HP then you need to equip an HP quartz and if you want more magical power you need to equip a quartz the buffs the ATS stat.

The spells you have available in battle are based on the elemental combination of the quartz that you have equipped. So it's not a direct relationship of "get new quartz, get new spell in battle. Different combinations of equipped quartz will result in different spells.

You can see a list of the required elemental combinations in the Bracer Notebook.

Thanks, I'll have to take a look at the notebook.

Also, when you look at the quests and click enter on the bulletin board, does that initiate the quest(s)? For example, I failed
searching for a shiny rock behind the Orbment place due to not doing it in time, I suppose.

It'll record them in your Bracer Book. For all intents and purposes you've started them, but you got to talk to the requester if there is one.

Plus each quest has a time limit associated with it (Long, Medium, or Short). The timer is moved forward by doing story stuff. If it has a Long period you can probably do a couple of story segments but if you get down to Short then it's best to not touch the main story until you complete the quests.

You can check the timer by looking at the job board in the Bracer Guild. I don't think the Bracer Notebook will tell you the time limit on the quest.

I just meant, is there a time limit associated with a quest? In the above, I'm not sure why I failed that sidequest, etc-I just moved on and followed the main quest.

Edit: And thank you to the above poster now answering all my questions, haha. Cheers.

I wouldn't trust the length given on the board. I've been following both guides on Gamefaqs to 100% the game and some of the lengths given don't really match up with the actual expiration times (at least, according to the guides). As a rule, you are better off just doing every sidequest as they become available. You should have some pop up after basically every major story event (plus some hidden ones here and there as well).

You can also start quests just by talking to the people requesting them even if you haven't checked the board yet. I ended up doing the Soldier Training quest that way.

I stripped Olivier of his quartz before he left my party but I see now that he's on my team officially he's got them back. Nice. Should've stripped him of his gear, too.

Oh, that's interesting. So the 'choice' isn't important, as long as the job itself is done correctly. I choose to have Estelle fight the monsters but I didn't even notice if I got extra BP for it because I wasn't aware of it at the time.

Anything special to note in terms of what to buy or spend sepith on? Is money hard to come by? It seems you only get it from missions, so is it finite? Should I be buying weapons and armor when I get a chance?

And for Quartz, anything special I should aim for, or buy whatever I want?

Just FYI, for those who were asking: the achievement for the empty chest messages is confirmed cumulative. If you keep a save file right at the chest, you can load it up and check the message once the bug is fixed, and it'll count toward your achievement just as readily as it would if you were able to check it right now. You don't need to worry about skipping over it for the time being.

...Sorry you have to skip over it at all, though! Hopefully, the cause of the problem will be tracked down and eliminated soon.

That's good to hear. Thank you for clarifying that for everyone.

How many chests are bugged at the moment?

That's the only one I'm 100% certain is bugged. I think one other has been reported, but I've only seen one single solitary report of it, so it might just be a fluke on that particular user's part.

Has xseed said anything about sales yet? Better than they expected? It's been in the top 10 all week so I hope it's doing well.

We don't typically comment on sales, since we can't give numbers.

Best I can do is to ask you, how well do you think it's selling? Because it's probably selling somewhere around there. ;)

So good.

But it's kinda sad that the second it lost its 15% discount it left top 20, oh Steam.

Finished with Chapter 1. Now onto Chapter 2: The Plot Thickens.

Quick question: should I be bothering to strip certain characters of their gear before they leave the party, or does the game do this automatically? Everything but currently equipped weapons appear to be put back into your inventory, evidently. Just wondering if there are any instances where this doesn't happen and I could potentially lose something irreplaceable.

I think it'll have legs for a long time as there is a JRPG drought on Steam (even Agarest sells well!). The faster all the issues with the game is solved, the better. We'll most likely see it pop up in the top lists each time it's on sale. At least this is what I believe :)

I think it's a pretty good showing for an 8 year old niche port on a platform not known for JRPGs.

You just don't look the same with the new avy. This is gonna take time to adjust.

Is there a difficulty setting in this? Without really trying to, I seem to have severely overpowered Estelle and Joshua's defense to the point where I had to remove their boots for the enemies in Malga Mine to do more than 0 damage to them. I don't have any hangups about unequipping their armor to make the enemies remotely threatening, but I'd rather not have to if there's a Hard Mode somewhere that I can use.

The only peep I've seen was that first day sales were "promising." We may not *really* know until 3rd is (or isn't) announced.

Not that you can access without beating the game first, no.

Things kind of get tougher after the prologue, but not by much.

I'm really happy about the game staying in top 10 for such a long time. I really hope this means more JRPGs on Steam.

Also, I might not keep this avatar, I still don't know if I'll go back to the dancer but we'll see.

I don't think that's true. The Soldier Training is a "hidden" quest, I believe. It will never show up on the Bracer Board - you just have to find it on your own. However I don't think you can trigger Bracer Board quests without going to the board itself first even if the related characters are already hinting about it in their dialogue.

That's in Rolent isn't it? Rolent doesn't have any hidden quests.

Sure hope so, hopefully this performs well enough that we get the sequel.

Not a JRPG, but I wish the Corpse Party games got on Steam as well.

I think it's high time I change avatars as well, but I'm not sure I can capture a good enough image (and I haven't really the time yet).

I'm not sure if extermination quests are exempt from this, but I exterminated a monster before I got the job from the Bracer Board. This particular one was on Bose's southern path just a bit past the Amberl Tower and blocking that lakeside inn.

It's on the board.

To everyone who thinks game topping GOG sales chart means something:

first_month_sales2-630x374.png

Different game obviously (Shovel Knight), but still I suspect the cut is similar in this case. Steam is just a larger market by order of magnitudes, 's all.

Soldier Training was definitely on the board, I wouldn't have known about it otherwise before it was time to leave Rolent. Although it is true some guild quests can be initiated before you see their listing on the board, especially those monsters that like to hang out on the roads, just waiting for a bracer to come by and eliminate it. Some of them can't even be avoided.

And of course, there are the missions that are never posted at all.

I don't think shovel knight even made it in the top sellers list, I can't remember if the GOG summer sale was still going when this came out. The Shovel Knight release thread has a lot of mentions of playing the game on 3DS.

GOG is growing each year, and the sales seem to be viable enough for publishers to release several games on.

New update out, Sapphirl tower chest bug is fixed. Coincidentally, I just encountered the freeze for the first time tonight, and when I closed the game I saw an update was queued. Reloaded, and voila.

That's probably a fair assumption to expect a distribution along the same lines. Trails remains in the top-20 bestsellers on Steam, so it's probably not doing too bad all-in-all.

Great. I'm just now getting to Ruan for the first time and Sapphirl Tower will be one of the first things I tackle.

Oh wow, it's back in the top 20. I figured it'd drop off the sales charts like a rock once the 15% off sale ended, but it's still holding well.
