Heh. I like the way the School Spirit achievement got fixed.
Since the "Ressource Hunt" quest apparently wouldn't correctly trigger, you just don't need to do that one anymore in order to get the achievement.
. A very pragmatically way to fix things! :)

End of Chapter 3 That surprised me in a way.

Beggining of chapter 4 spoilers

Can someone tell me the right place to download Joy2Key? The website Google comes up with seems kind of shady, so I want to make sure I'm not downloading the bad news version.

I'm a bit confused about achievements. This has to be a bug. I unlocked the "in justice we trust" (get max BP) achievement, but "brace(r) yourself for adventure" (complete all requests) is still at 81/83. That shouldn't be possible, for obvious reasons.

When it shows you the BP you get for a mission, does it not show you the total if you also got extra BP? The guide I'm following said I'm supposed to get 4 BP, but it displayed as 3 (+1). I didn't know if that meant I got 3 BP plus the 1 I already had, or I got 3+1=4 for just that single mission...

You're fine. 3 (+1) is 4 if you're following that guide by yangxe. If you want to be totally sure, search that guide for the bracer point checklist and you can get the exact values you're supposed to be seeing.

It was shorter than explaining the whole thing,
guy who suffered in his past and end up leaving his friend behind or betraying them, there was almost no other option at this point in the game really, and with a decent focus on Estelle growing love it wasn't hard to see how it would go...
but yeah i shouldn't have used this terrible expression, my bad.

Now I just gotta find out why it had to be that way...

There's a real nasty one in Bose that requires you go back for it after it triggers then before you finish up where you triggered it from. It's probably the roughest in the game.

Am I missing something or do additional S-Crafts only show up really late in the game? I'm into Chapter 3 and still have only the originals for the characters.

They get them based on level. Joshua gets his at the earliest level I think. They are all level 23+ and some don't get them til the 30s iirc.

Just started Chapter 3, and about to leave Ruan... and I see the Sapphirl Tower chest freeze bug still hasn't been fixed yet... *sigh*

Trying to decide if I should wait for them to fix it, or just move on and get the chest message achievement some other time...

I kept a save at that point, and I'm under the assumption that the achievements are cumulative so once it's fixed, I can just load it and get it and that'll be that. But I don't know if that's the case.

Not sure why it wouldn't be, but I'll try to find out for you guys tomorrow.

They should be cumulative. It worked for the newspaper one after I was a doof and didn't read it before I gave it away.

Hmm. I'll wait until tomorrow to decide, then. Not like I have that much more time to play tonight anyway.

And if I do decide to continue, I'll be sure to keep a save at that area so I can easily get it once it's fixed, assuming it is cumulative. Thanks, guys.

Less than four hours to take advantage of the discounted Steam price... not sure if I should bite. How slow is this game's pacing? I remember the intro kind of taking a while.

Gotta say... thank Aidios for shining poms!

I don't think I ever killed one in the PSP game and I utterly failed in this one.

Is there an actual method to do it or is it really just a matter of getting a full CP bar and restarting the fight over and over until you get favorable attack bonuses (crits/+50 attack)? Because I'm not seeing any other way to do it.

I'm also not sure what determines whether or not they spawn, I never saw the one in Rolent. Got attacked by the one in Bose though. Do they only appear at a certain time in the story or is it random?

The game doesn't really "pick up" until around halfway through, but once you hit chapter 1 the main story questline is all relevant/important. If you are doing everything the prologue can take a few hours.

I used two S-Breaks or whatever and killed one in Rolent at least!

The game is reaaaally slow-paced, but things get more interesting starting chapter 2 (though the beginning of said chapter 2 is rather slow as well). I read that everything speed up starting the end of said chapter 2.

Basically, yeah. It gets easier the further you are in the game generally (especially when you start getting S-Crafts that can hit multiple targets). You can also use sepith turns to get sepith from them without actually needing to kill them if you don't need the EXP (Estelle's starting S-Craft and the Aerial art are great for this because of the number of hits they have).

If you're lucky, you can also kill them using Shadow Spear, which has a 20% chance of instant death.

There's one in every chapter, and they each have a set spawn point. They don't always show up in it though, so even if you know where they're going to appear, sometimes you need to switch screens a few times for them to actually show up.

Yeah, it was checking total BP properly (hence the max BP one unlocking) but two of the quests weren't being marked off for some reason. Seems safe to say one was one of the academy quests, but the other one was a mystery.

Either way, it's been fixed now. And by fixed I mean it's now showing 81/81.

I wish I had seen that one and got an opportunity to do something against it. I tried the Bose one about halfway through the chapter and 200CP S-Breaks without bonuses did 0 damage. With Morale and a critical bonus, Joshua could knock off about 3/4 of a health bar but that doesn't do any good since neither of the other characters could even hurt them WITH a critical bonus.

That was a earlier in the chapter though, I've gotten a level or two and upgraded my equipment so maybe that would kill it now but I haven't gone to fight it again.

I think I spent about an hour/hour and a half last night backtracking through most of Rolent making sure I hit every chest being going forward in the plot. In Chapter 1 now.

It's slow, but that's part of why it's so charming. For the most part it's the light-hearted adventure of a girl and a boy and their journey through the world. Things do change by the end, though.

Make sure you aren't equipping anything that makes your attacks elemental-based.

What I do is get everyone's CP to 200, and then save right before engaging the poms so I can reload if battle conditions aren't optimal (or simply flee and re-engage them).

Always managed to kill 2. Except one time I was able to kill all 3 by using Shadow Spear and utilizing a lucky mix of bonuses.

After jumping between finishing other games and back to this, I got a bit confused. If anyone could help out my noob question, that'd be awesome. Excuse me if I use some of the wrong terminology, I'm on my phone.

I've played about a couple hours in, and amassed a certain amount of different crystals...my memory was a bit foggy as to the best use of this, and I synthesized all of my quartz into things such as "HP" (blue, I believe) until I had no more remaining quartz to do so. Is this an acceptable choice/what did I actually do?...or should I have been better off trying to open more slots for my character at this moment in the game?

I know the tutorial went over this in the beginning, but the details have totally slipped my coffee-addled brain.

Well, if you want to actually use the quartzs you bought you need to put them into slots, so it is a good idea to open them early. However, you'll also need quartzs to put into those slots, otherwise the slots are usless too. You want to aim for a good balance, really. You get stronger magic and different bonuses for equiping and combining different quartzes, but if you've only got one opened slot for each character, you can't actually do that efficiently. However, you'll have plenty of chances to open new slots, so don't worry too much about it.

Not really in the mood for something that slow-paced. I'll just wait for the game to go on sale at a later date. Too much of a backlog anyway. Thanks for filling me in, everyone.

I'd say prioritize slots, and once you can't open anymore slots spend excess on quartz you need.

You shouldn't make any quartz you don't need though since you can use that sepith later for better quartz or opening slots, and I'd also recommend not selling them unless you really need to. If you are doing most/all of the sidequests money shouldn't be an issue.

I really get a Grandia feel when playing this game ~ sadly, not as great as Grandia, but it's there. Just reached the 3rd city, I hope to get my new companion soon.
I also thought that all characters had the same CP pool, but turns out some have more CP than others (Joshua has more than Estelle, and Oliver really seems to be the Mage type, thanks to his huge CP pool and only 1 line, allowing easier spell unlocking).

I believe Estelle has two slots open and Joshua has one at the moment. I was 7 short in Black I believe to be able to purchase new slots. What's confusing to me is, where is an indication that I've gotten/upgraded these quartz? My characters are using the same magic; I didn't see improvements in HP or magic power unless I was totally off the mark. I'm sure the system isn't actually that confusing, I'm just being a bit dense at the moment.

It doesn't sound like you actually equipped them in the slots.

Also, if you buy a bunch of HP 1s, they're just a bunch of HP 1s. They don't magically combine or fuse or anything.

You mean EP? I think that's just based on the number of slots open and not specific to the character, but I'm not sure. My Estelle has more than Joshua but also has another slot open. Joshua and Schera have the same number of slots and EP.

Yeah, should have opened slots at that point.

And when you are changing quartz you can see the stats and how they are modified on the same screen. Changes are shown in green/red for up/down just like equipment.

I have an old save file from 30 minutes before I made this excellent judgement call at the shop :p

Estelle has Blue and Red equipped giving her Fire Magic, Water, and Heal (Tear), while Joshua only had access to one slot, using black, which gave him Soul Swap I believe.

Is reverting to previous save the best idea, given I emptied all my quarts into buying things like HP1, as you pointed out. Stoked I got 7 of those, Lol.

But it's already on sale..? It's 15% off out of the gate (but the sale ends in 2 hours!) Given the length and complexity of the game, as well as its already low price point, I don't see a better price coming for a long time.

Oups. Yeah, I meant EP. And, yes, some characters have more EP than others, even with the same number of slots unlocked. I have opened all slots for Estelle and Joshua, and Joshua has like 360 EP whereas Estelle has 280 (and neither has any EP enhancing quartz equiped). Though they had the same EP pool up until the 5th or 6th slot IIRC.

It will probably help to read the bracer notebook to see which quartz combinations are required to use which spells. Bear in mind that most characters have 2-row orbment configurations which makes planning for certain spells a little tricky. If this doesn't make sense now, just watch the quartz counts as you rearrange quartz on one of your characters.

Each quartz has as an associated buff and elemental value. The name of the quartz is derived from the buff (ie HP 1,2,3 all boost HP). If you want more HP then you need to equip an HP quartz and if you want more magical power you need to equip a quartz the buffs the ATS stat.

The spells you have available in battle are based on the elemental combination of the quartz that you have equipped. So it's not a direct relationship of "get new quartz, get new spell in battle. Different combinations of equipped quartz will result in different spells.

You can see a list of the required elemental combinations in the Bracer Notebook.

Still in Chapter 1. I'm currently on my way to Ravenue's Abandoned Mine after taking care of all the jobs and sidequests around Bose, including that hidden Amberl Tower one. I actually visited it earlier than I was supposed to and managed to get to the top but on the way back down I was getting wrecked by multiple surprise encounters. But thanks to that I gained a bunch of levels, I later went back after the next story beat and finished it proper.

I only just noticed that some jobs give extra BP when you make good choices during them. I screwed up the escort to Krone Pass by having Estelle make what I thought was the "safe" choice but as it turns out, I should have been more aggressive. Same thing happened back in Rolent during the 'Replace the Orbment Light' job by having Estelle take care of the monsters while Joshua did the actual replacing. I thought it was the 'safe' i.e. the better choice, but I lost out on the extra BP. Oh well, i-it's not like I wanted that max BP achievement or anything...

Also noticed that there's a dearth of Red Sepith around the Bose area, I'm always short on those. Some monsters give them, but not in the quantities I would like... I have to actively seek out those monsters so I can open more Orbment Slots. That's basically all I'm doing with my Sepith... once I have one of every Quartz available at the shops I just concentrate on opening slots and (occasionally) selling excess Mirage, Space and Time crystals for cold hard mira.

I hope Agate-sempai notices me....

Hm, I also had Joshua do the replacing, seems like the obvious thing to do considering their conversation earlier (Estelle not being able to remember the code). Oh well.

You get quite a few red toward the end of the chapter. And it's nice to collect some blue ones after the lack of those in the prologue.

What's really nice is when you use Aerial and hit like 5 enemies on a Sepith bonus. I think I almost maxed out my Sepith gains for that fight, got 53 I think.
