The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC |OT| More Olivier Than Ever

Just because it doesn't spoil something for you doesn't mean it doesn't spoil it for others. No need to discuss it at length, just be considerate.

If someone's so hypersensitive that they think naming a boss spoils something, then that's them being ridiculous. Especially since in many cases the complainers are actually people who already know the stuff and think they're "protecting" new players who wouldn't care, or it doesn't actually impede on anyone's enjoyment of the story.

Also, fun fact, but a study once showed that knowing the ending to a story ahead of time actually can make people appreciate it more, not less, even in stuff like mystery stories. A lot of the hatred towards spoilers has more to do with some stories being shit aside from an interesting twist, or people thinking that it'll make them enjoy a good story less, regardless of the reality

I don't really think it's cool to mention bosses by name especially later in the game in a common non-spoiler discussion. That crosses the line of courtesy for me.

I'd agree in most cases, but in this case the boss is hardly a secret. He's been built up since FC afterall (and it doesn't even really spoil FC, since he went by a different name there)

If you want to discuss spoilers, do it in spoiler tags or somewhere else. It's not that hard.

Of course and I do if it's actually a legitimate spoiler. But the thing is, whether something is a spoiler or not is really dependent on whether it actually gives anything away. I don't feel that what I've said without spoiler tags will surprise or shock anyone and nobody has suggested that it even has. They're just arguing based on idealistic principles rather than the reality of the situation.

So I'll say it again: Is it really a spoiler if it isn't actually spoiling anyone's experience?

Like, would anyone have considered it a spoiler if I had said Harry confronts Voldemort in the Harry Potter novels?

If you find yourself arguing with everyone in a thread at the same time on moral high ground over a technicality, odds are people just want you to shut the fuck up at this point. Just a hunch.

Fair enough. I'll stop now, but I still think people are being ridiculous and complaining about something that isn't actually going to affect anyone's enjoyment of the game

I think you mean Chapter 4. Chapter 3 was Grancel! And yeah, I think it's a neat touch that there's a lot of major dialogue that's optional or depends on who you have in your party at a given time, but it can hurt knowing that you're missing out on other possibilities!
I found it pretty cool when some temporary party members would react to the NPCs that you've talked to. Like in Chapter 3 while you had
Renne
following you, mostly inconsequential stuff being said but the fact they added many pieces of dialogue to account for them being there is just shows again the attention to detail that was put into the game.

Does your fishing rod determine which fish you can catch or is it best to always use your best rod?

I think it just determines what bait you can use. The bait itself and the location influences what you will catch.
EDIT: come to think, maybe yeah... in the case of the first two rods since they share baits

Finished Chapter 5. That was pretty awesome. Unfortunately I can't stop now, because of how Chapter 6 starts. This game is so addictive. >_<

I'm at the same point, currently powering through 6 because by its very nature I knew it had to be different from the other 5 chapters. Definitely hit the good stuff now, it's going to be Sony when I rub out of weekend and haven't finished it. Current time is over 77 hours.

Also, Gambler Jack chapters
8 and 9 were very cheekily placed.
So nearly missed one of them because I thought I was in the clear having found the other.

Oof. Finished Chapter 4 not too long ago. After getting stuff done in town at the beginning of Chapter 5 and boarding the airship, Estelle goes and asks the two party members I took with me to fight Chapter 4's big boss
what their dream was
. It then hit me that the others probably would have something personal to share too if they were there but to find out I'd have to regress to the save point just before the battle and swap out party members, fight the boss again and work my way back to the airship trip... twice.

Even Persona 2 wasn't that cruel.
I wonder if at some point Falcom was considering five members per battle rather than four like in FC, but decided that would be going too far in terms of balance vs. regular enemies and bosses. Being able to bring that extra member along for sequences like this would alleviate how tedious it can be to get extra story sequences.
The dreams, of course, all bring out the same feelings in each member, being nostalgia mixed with apprehension and the realization that what they've experienced is false and a red herring
.

Chapter 5 is pretty great in terms of the main plot. Lots of "big" scenes. But is there any reason why the err...
effects and shadow for the dragon is so low-quality compared to everything else? It's really jarring when the model itself is really sharp and the textures are high resolution, but the shadows are a low-res jaggy mess and whenever it breaths fire the effects are super low-res pixels too.
What gives? Is is a limitation on the resources available? Anyone from XSEED know? T_T
Weird as it is, I think it's something outside Sara's control, like how many effects in-game are made for 4:3 resolution rather than widescreen.

following you, mostly inconsequential stuff being said but the fact they added many pieces of dialogue to account for them being there is just shows again the attention to detail that was put into the game.
Best part is when
Dick's heart-beat rises 96.7%
or something like that. There's great double entendres in this game, and Estelle's is the best ("I don't care if he has an airship in his pants or whatever").

Finished up Chapter 8.

Man, what a finale. The attack on Grancel was incredible. It was great seeing Dunan taking charge and showing some integrity, and seeing Philip stand up was awesome. My only regret was that we didn't actually see that fight. I would have loved to see him taking the Enforcers on, at least for a little bit. Richard's arrival was expected after being hinted at earlier, but it was a pretty cool scene.

Kloe has stepped up and finally accepted her role, which was good to see, and then we get to the whole Haken Gate showdown. The Empire suddenly amassing their army was quite the development, even though there had been a lot of hints. And Olivier's identity is revealed. It certainly wasn't a surprise, although the reactions to it were really good. The revelation that he and Cassius had planned this whole thing out was pretty crazy. Those guys are crafty. And when he was talking to General Vander about his plans to take down Osborne and reform the Empire I got chills down my spines. He's quite the ambitious guy after all.

That was one of the most exciting endings to a chapter I can think of, and it isn't over yet. The start of Chapter 9 is already pretty promising.

I'm sad that I'll be done with this game soon, especially with us having no idea if the 3rd will ever be translated or not, but this game has basically lived up to every bit of my four years of expectations. Not a single disappointment on any level.

Hey that's not cool. I don't spoil stuff and I tag anything I consider a story spoiler. But whenever possible I would rather discuss stuff in a general way rather than go into detail because I don't like talking to people with black bars everywhere, it's just silly.

I didn't mean for that to be offensive, just pointing out a difference in how people respond. I said a "miniboss" in the last chapter was annoying because it had a 1HKO on a NPC, and that was "too spoilery."

Not sure if bug or over sight but in chapter 4 pc during the
illusion, young estelle still has the monster book in her inventory

I think the monster book was added in for the PC version, might be a limitation related to that. I noticed it too though.

I'm loving Estelle even more in this one, she's one of my favorite characters in any game at this point. The writing in these games can be really great.

Alright, thanks. So far I'm just fishing with all my baits at every spot I find but I haven't used the old rod yet. I got the one from the casino before I fished for the first time.

On a completely different note from earlier, do we have any idea when Cold Steel is coming to NA? When I've looked it up, I see Q4 2015, but given it's already Q4, I'm wondering if there's been any more news

Wasn't it delayed to 2016? Or is it December? Can't remember.

No idea. I just decided to get into the franchise around a week or two ago and pretty much played during most of my free time to get to the end, so I haven't followed any news. All I know is that google and wikipedia just say q4 2015 for western release

Hasn't been any announcements, and as of a week and a half ago it's still in QA. At this point I'm starting to doubt it will make it out this year.

It was delayed, but expected to still arrive before 2016...unless there have been further delays.

Anyways, let's not stray any further, please.

I hope the CS games do well, releasing them on 2 platforms that are pretty much dead at this point doesn't sound too promising.

I'm glad I still have my Vita lying around somewhere back home. I'll probably need to find it and remember to bring it with me during thanksgiving break.

CS's placeholder is still December. Feels a bit unlikely at this point if we don't get a release very soon, but it would certainly be nice if I'd get it in time for christmas.

If they had anything coming before Thanksgiving, it would have been announced already. So that leaves the first 2 weeks of December to come out with anything, since the US does not get physical games the 2nd half of the month. The only things they could possibly have to release this year that have still been said to be coming this year, are EDF 2 and CS, neither of which have gotten a date yet and I would honestly hope at least CS gets talked about for more than a week before release.

So because of the holidays and them still seeming like they want 2 games this year, something should honestly be said within the next week if they want to market anything for the remainder of the year.

I think I've stumbled upon a combat bug in Ch. 9
with the robots at the entrance to the Aureole's spire. If you S-Break after a Self-Destruct, that character ceases to be controllable and does not recieve new turns. I had to let Joshua die from snaking a +STR buff post-SD.

In better news:
the rematches with Enforcers gets harder with each subsequent boss fight, as Renne and especially Loewe were much MUCH nastier than last time.

I'm loving Estelle even more in this one, she's one of my favorite characters in any game at this point. The writing in these games can be really great.

Her and Joshua are some of the best characterization I've seen in gaming. Marvelous stuff. No swerves, no acting out of character, no butt-pull motivations.

I mean, there's no way you can hate a character who has a (ch. 7 spoiler)
drop kick
, right?

Seriously, Estelle is the best.

This bug happened to me too, outside of chapter 9.
What happened was I activated
Olivier's
S-Craft, but he died, and on the same moment he died, I hit the button for Estelle's S-Craft, but her turn marker vanished into the ether and she became uncontrollable.

I actually can't remember how I fixed it mid-battle. But whatever I did, it immediately re-added Estelle to the queue and she did her S-Craft right away. I was laughing the whole time though cause she was just standing there like a dummy.

Finished chapter 5 and 6 today

__________wooooooow_________

This is a very good videogame

I did both of those today too. Really had to struggle to stop myself carrying on into 7. I'll save that for tomorrow.

I found it quite hard but I was totally about to win the
Gilbert
battle when
Joshua
showed up. Carried on, thinking I'd won but I didn't get full BP when I eventually finished the chapter. Kind of annoying. Something else to get next time I suppose.

I totally lucked out there.

I was able to keep myself alive by healing every turn but couldn't get damage in, at one point everyone was grouped up and I used one of the new attack items I found recently. Boom. Everyone dead at once haha

Damn, didn't even think to try those. I just assumed it'd be
win or lose, didn't think I'd have to win in under a certain numbers of turns. I even killed a couple and they brought reach other back. Killed 2 more again and the bake was cut off. I'll have to remember to use that food item next time. An action 4 quartz would be nice too.

I equipped Estelle with
a confuse quartz and then used hurricane in order to hit as many enemies as possible per round. When half the enemies are busy attacking each other, the battle becomes much easier.

Question about a quest in chapter 5

all guides say I need to turn in everything at once to get the bonus bp, but doing so didn't net me any. Do I have to get drops from the 3 specific areas for the extra bp to count?

Talk to Orvid, he gets you the extra BP.

Another question for chapter 5

The game doesn't auto strip Agate when he runs off so I reloaded and stripped him, am I gonna screw myself later by doing so or does the game give me a chance to reequip him when he rejoins?

Edit: sorry for dp

Posting again since no one answered

Aw. Y'know, playing without a guide you have to assume you're going to miss out on bonus BP and other goodies even if you're thorough (I mean VERY thorough) but apparently even that's not enough!
I already had all the ingredients so I just gave them to her on the spot. I did see Orvid after the fact but he gives no indication his presence would have mattered for the quest: now I'm curious about what his contribution was.
I really don't want to reload the save right before because I've already progressed too much and don't want to do all that again...

EDIT: actually I'm not sure if we're even talking about the same quest, lol
