The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd coming west for PC in 2017

Where this will probably be a silly question to many, but as someone who hasn't bought anything digitally via PC (all my PC games are boxed), will there most likely be a way to purchase this without having to go through Steam?

I don't have a Steam account and don't really want to sign up for it if I can avoid it.

Humble Bundle or GOG.
Preferably Humble Bundle as you'd get both a Steam key and a DRM Free copy. Which means you can sell your Steam key.

Man, this post takes me back.

Not quite the same thing, that's just a portable PC

Something like a portable Steam Link actually seems more interesting, since it could theoretically cost less and work better. Any of these portable PCs like the Smach Z or the GPDWIN are going to have limited performance, and the more they try to get around that they more they struggle with battery life, cost, size, or all three. A portable focused on streaming could use cheaper/weaker hardware and dedicate most it's battery life to the wireless connection (which would have to be really good) and the screen.

I'm also surprised something like that doesn't exist yet.

Honestly, the more I think about it, I will probably just go ahead and sign up for Steam. I will need to use a download service of some sort, anyways. I just wanted to avoid more emails, I get enough junk mail as it is.

Too bad they couldn't come out with it for PSP, if only for people to download it for the VITA.

Does humble bundle give keys anymore? I thought they stopped doing that and you have to sign into steam through humble bundle to redeem. Unless it is a gift key but you lose access to the humble bundle page once it's linked to an account.

Yes. They stopped but they give keys now.

Well, in any case, you'd still get a Steam key in any case. So... why not have both ? :p
DRM Free and Steam version, considering you can even sell the latter...

This has been cancelled. Although GPD Win is coming.

Regarding emails, I think the only time Steam sends emails is when you make purchases or sales (cards and stuff). I don't recall receiving promotional emails, but maybe it's because I turned them off right away or something... I've been on Steam for 7 years, and I honestly can't remember the last promo email I got from Steam.

And SteamGuard, but if you are getting unexpected SteamGuard emails that's not a good thing. Also has notifications for when wishlisted games go on sale, but you might be able to can disable that.

XSEED releases their stuff on GoG, right? That's probably your best bet if you want a DRM-free version.

Edit: didn't see the new page, oops

So by having a DRM version, it would basically prevent me from copying it?

That really isn't a factor for me as I would re-DL it if I needed to, like if I got a new computer. Or does DRM prevent other things as well?

DRM generally prevents you from manually copy/pasting the game files from one computer to another. Depending on where you bought your DRM'd game, you have some options for moving it around. For example, Steam allows you to back up your files onto external storage so you don't have to redownload the game on another system.

People like DRM-free stuff because you get an installer file that can be used on any computer without it calling home to an authentication server. Even if GOG gets shut down, that file will still work.

Yes. Still have the first two in my wishlist because of backlog but I'm looking forward to this series very much and it's nice to know that we'll get the 3rd chapter even though as far as I understand the first two chapters are not really connected with the third, yes?

They're connected, just not super strongly. Characters from the first two chapters appear and you need to play both of them before experiencing the 3rd, but it's more of a bridge into the rest of the series and is more concerned with looking forward and fleshing the world out.

I wish Falcom called the game Legend of Heroes: Kiseki 3rd when it released so we wouldn't have to repeatedly emphasize how much more important 3rd is to future entries vs. the story from Sora no Kiseki FC and SC. Trails 3rd is fine by me at least.

They should remove the "3rd" part entirely and just call it Trails into the Plotline.

Man, I really should stop reading this thread. It's sending my Trails hype through the damn roof and making me want to play Cold Steel so bad. I have the Vita version but I haven't touched it yet and I need to finish Persona Q before I even think about starting another long JRPG...

so only pc and no psp/vita version???

i would even donate/help kickstart this.
would love to play this on my handheld. even as a umd/vita-cart.

PSP is completely dead, and I'm not sure Falcom even has PSP dev kits anymore. Basically no means to do it even aside from the platform being dead.

what a bump, and for a question that's been answered upteen times already

almost a year later since the announcement
not too long a wait now, ha ha
