Jeez there are no teleport points in Hyrule Castle, are there? If you leave, does it save the
guardians and lynels
you already killed, or do you have to start over?

If you really want to know,
there's a shrine in the docks. Blood moons can't happen while you're inside the castle, but if you leave you'll probably get one soon if you're killing everything you see.

Yes. There is a lot of dungeon-like gameplay though. I don't care if the next Zelda has traditional dungeons or noy, but I like it a lot how the shrines, beasts and overworld puzzles distribute this gameplay in BotW.

Also listening to the soundtrack and reliving some of the key moments through that I've become convinced that as a whole (lead-up, entering, navigating, conquering) Vah Rutah and Vah Naboris are among my favorite sequences built around a Zelda "dungeon".

I mentioned it before, but I feel that each "region" in the game is themed as a dungeon in a sense, just not the way people traditionally think of it. The interactivity and seamlessness between town, field, and dungeon means the experience you generally from a big Zelda dungeon is instead adapted in your experience in approaching, encountering, and solving a whole area instead

Here's how I see the game:

- The Great Plateau: Much like a traditional "first dungeon" it introduces all the core gameplay mechanics and trains the player to know the basics required to play the game. There's one tower and four shrines, no boss fight, but a lot of important overworld survival training.

- Kakariko Village: Exploring this region when directed by the story introduces the player to stables, two towns (Kakariko and Hatero), a wealth of options open up, you are led to your first gimme Memory, and there's the
Spring of Wisdom encounter
to cap it off.

- Gerudo Region: Everything from the approach to getting into the town proper, to the optional miniboss in the region, the required mini-dungeon, and eventually the attack on the Divine Beast and capturing it is a huge concise dungeon like experience.

- Rito Region: The least elaborate of the regions in terms of mandatory content, and is disappointingly simplistic in terms of the critical path. But extremely satisfying optional content and by far the best post-Divine Beast quests of any region. I feel this one has a different design from all the rest and is probably the least comparable to a dungeon.

- Goron Region: Approaching the town by from the mine side, getting introduced to Death Mountain first hand on the way there, then all the hijinx involving the cannons, minecarts, escort stealth, until you infiltrate the Divine Beast and capture it. I feel this is one of the closest analogs to how Death Mountain dungeons have been evolving in Zelda as it is.

- Zora Region: Much like Gerudo, this feels like a big dungeon adventure in the overworld. The approach to the Domain, navigating the path upwards, the shock arrow quest, and then teaming up to subdue the Beast and capture it.

- Korok Forest: Lost Woods, the Korok Challenges,
the Master Sword
. A totally optional but important area which delivers a dungeon like experience divided into different chunks.

- Hyrule Castle: While you can rush right in to the final boss, the story and the stables within this region give various reasons for the player to explore it fully to get the most out of it.

The Zora region doesn't feel very in-tune with the game's design.
That is until you discover there's like half the region remaining after getting to Zora's Domain.

I feel like the Switch's design, the ability to turn the system off and come back into it in roughly 10 seconds makes it a lot more addicting. Even after getting 100%, I'm back at it, trying to max all of my Equipment.

Moblin Freeze Glitch only seems to happen for Black Moblins for me. Game just drops to 0 fps for like a second.

Patch didn't fix the Moblin glitch. Went and knocked some Moblins down slopes to check. More or less the same as before.

The first time I knocked a black (? can't remember for certain) Moblin off an edge at the top of the Gerudo mountains near the Wasteland tower, I honestly thought my game crashed.

Yesterday I experienced the Moblin glitch, but with a Lizalfos. The freeze was certainly shorter than usual but it was there. Don't know if it was known to happen with other enemies, seeing it always called the "Moblin glitch"

Finally finished the game after 120 hours.

The ending didn't have the emotional punch I was expecting
even if you've collected all of the memories
but the environmental storytelling in Hyrule Castle alone more than made up for it.

Whats your favourite region to explore?

Mines Akala, so colorful and lush.
Akkala sure is pretty.

I personally love Hyrule Ridge and the Great Plateau. I'm also fond of the area between Kakariko and Hateno. They're all very green and forest-y and 'normal'.

Faron is nice. Very dense in places but has a magnificent coastline.

got the master sword, finally.

going to get the final devine beast at doom mountain or whatever it's called next.

Then should have the game finished in time for mario kart i reckon.

Is there a quick fire way of finding a load of korok seeds, i'm getting annoyed with having to discard weapons to replace them, i have like 8 slots i think?

How many do you have? I had only 75 and could purchase slot so that I had 15 free slots or so for weapons.

Wait, you sure about the blood moon thing?
I was in the library when I saw a blood moon rising through the hole in the roof and got out of there to get to the blood moon shrine but I assumed it would trigger normally.
Am I wrong?

Enemies' weapons keep getting better but my defence hasn't changed since Hateno back at the start, getting one shot far too often.. Still haven't found the second fairy fountain

I am only 60hrs in according to the Switch play timer. But I think I am ready for gannon. Does that sound about right?

I did the 4 beasts and have about 15 hearts. And maybe 4 or t stamina increases. Time to wrap this up? Or is there a lot more to go for the main quest? Should I grind more shrines?

Sounds entirely doable and if you feel you have to grind shrines, you probably should go for it. Getting even more upgrades will probably only make the fight easier for you, so it might even be contra-productive.

Only managed to do two shrines yesterday evening, but it was pretty satisfying to explore in the mountains and finding another cave with a shrine. We happened to find the entry to the cave and shrine before finding the location that would've given us the hint that there is a shrine. The second shrine was found exploring the outer edges of the map, where one was clearly visible in about the furthest corner you can get. First "fight" with a skeleton Hinox as well, but bombing its eye with a three shot bow and bomb arrows made laughably short work of it. On the other hand mipha's gift is a godsend, when you happen to get hit by a "normal" enemy in environment specific non-upgraded armour and would otherwise be insta-killed.

I'm sure. I've been in Hyrule Castle when
I saw a blood moon rising, but even though it was quite clearly a blood moon, the cutscene never triggered until I left Hyrule Castle and another night came.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Hyrule Castle was the first thing they started designing when making the game. There are tons of layers about it that I don't think many will ever look at or go back to in order to appreciate.

Second playthrough is done. 3 Heart run. What an amazing experience.

Gonna start my 100% run sometime next week.

Total playtime is over 210 hours. I freaking love this game.

One thing I utterly love about BOTW is the way the map has been handled. I like how it auto updates to add really important stuff like shrines, villages, towers etc, but then nothing else is added unless you want it to be. The large variety of different stamps means that you are free to create your own code and marking system for what is important to you, and not what the developers think might be important.

It means you avoid the Division style christmas tree of different coloured icons everywhere. On mine I mark Hinox areas with a skull, and Talus with a gem icon for example, so my map has those things for when I want to farm them. However if I didn't care about that I wouldn't have to do it. The freedom to create your own map codes, and the ability to customise your initially fairly basic map how you like it is genius and something more games ought to do.

If you haven't explored the bridge of Hylia there's quite a lot to be found around (mostly underneath) the bridge itself and the surrounding shoreline.

Oh, this is a thing? Glad to hear it; I ran into it the other day and was worried the console was overheating or something.

Yeah it's now a well known glitch where if you knock a moblin down from a higher point to a lower point (sometimes even on flat ground as long as the game thinks the ragdoll is "falling", the entire game freezes and seems to lock up for a second. Hilarious. I wonder what causes it.

According to some interviews, the first area that they did was the great plateau. But i'm sure that they really did a lot of testing around many areas of the game to make them satisfying.

Even after finishing the game i load it up to seek some korok seeds and what not. Of course not on the same level of multiple hours but i honestly let 2~3 hours fly very easily in this game. The movement of link is sooo good i really hope they maintain this tight gameplay in following games.

How is that possible? making food that gives you extra hearts i presume? do you not require the master sword or all the devine beasts to beat gannon?

Thanks BGBW

You can finish in less than an hour by running straight to Ganon after getting the paraglider.

Parry, parry, parry. Who needs extra hearts?

Kneel in front of the dog. You'll get the "love" from the dog. After that,
give the dog some things to eat, and the dog might show you some secret
.

That's not really petting the dog though, and I don't think it has anything to do with kneeling. If you just spend time in the vicinity of the dog, he will eventually do the 'love bubbles' animation. Or at least that's been my experience.

I also want to be able to play fetch with dogs please. That seems like a massive oversight :3

Not sure if this has been noticed before, but there's a way to make Guardians disappear using Stasis+ when they're slept

Video

It worked before the patch, and it works after the patch

You could save up orbs and only trade them in to pick up the sword, then trade them for stamina so you're back at 3 hearts again

Um...wow.

Hadn't occurred to me until that video that bomb based skipping is going to be a lot different in BotW than other Zeldas - before you always had to time your movement to a specific frame to be in the position you need right as the bomb went off. Since bombs are all remote detonated in BotW 'jump at the right time' will become 'trigger the bomb at the right time'.

Ive only seen it happen when the mobling ragdoll would hit surfaces with many edges like most of death mountain or its gonna fall between 2 diferent objects like a mobling dying between a armor and a wall in hhrule castle so it would hit both many times while falling.

The game probably tries to get the whole ragdoll animation at once when a enemy dies and when its too complex it just hangs until the calculations are done.

Nothing is required in this game. Thats why the world record for the speedrun of this game is about 45 mins

Also
divine beast bosses you didnt beat will appear in the final boss fight as part of the final boss battle, calamity gannon loses 1/8 of its max health for each divine beast you beat, so id you didnt beat any you will get 4 bosses and a full hp calamity ganon as a final boss fight.

Edit:whoops double post

Speaking of Blood Moons, I do find the surprise Blood Moons annoying. You know, when you're just walking along during the daytime and you happen to walk into a bad spot and it triggers the moon instantly. If you're lucky you can sometimes notice the red particles and do a 180 and get outta there, but most of the time it's too late.

There are a couple in
the Hebra region
that are behind doors in the mountainside, they can only be opened by
rolling snowballs from a distance at them
.
Ah, Hebra is the last region I need to visit. I'll bear this information in mind when I reach it, thanks!

I dont find it annoying as you can fast travel from anywhere (even swimming) you can always just back up to the closest shrine.

My blood moons always appear and pretty much immediately disappear, I guess they always trigger when there are no enemies around or something, or it's glitched. Anyway I'm not too bothered.

If it's not midnight and they're showing up, it's a glitch (probably a memory leak issue). Immediately quit the game and power down your system, and that seems to fix it.

Also, pro-tip: try not to leave your system in sleep mode while a game is running unless you absolutely have to.
