The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword announced for Wii [N-CONF]

I only caught a glimpse of the Zelda footage (ran home from work to catch the conference) but did I see correctly that it was cell shaded? Or was it just monumentally lacking in detail?

Anyway, this game is still a year out probably, but I don't care because it's Zelda and 2010 is packed enough as it is for Nintendo, let alone other formats. If there are problems with the game, remember that it's still far off of completion, and also remember what this is, and who is making it.

Serious question: can someone explain to me how someone would not find this beautiful? Or would not want to play it?

The thing that bothers me about the style is that it lacks a certain depth. It's unique and intriguing, but it just seems a bit flat to me. Where's the shadows?!

In fact it is fantastic. But the trailer is the best thing to watch.

The graphics look great, but I guess it wouldn't be GAF without people desperately trying to find something to bitch about.

The live demo at E3 was an embarressment, but I still have hope this game will deliver in the end... I mean it's fucking Zelda, a platinum franchise for Nintendo, they wouldn't release it with it controlling that poorly.
Yeah it was just technical difficulties, shit happens.

Once again so far behind on the news. That screenshot of Zelda looks pretty sweet I really like the style. Looks like a watercolor. Not sure what else they showed but it really sounds like people enjoyed the Nintendo conference. Awesome for them, I'm excited to watch it at my own leisure (and here from Giant Bomb).

Could someone give a quick summary?

Stop with the trees.
I know they're not all that great, but it's no like they're HORRIBLE, they look fine. Other than that the art style is awesome, exactly what I hoped it would be - a return to a classic "clean" look without going for a cartoony look. It's going to be so awesome.

I just don't like Link's design. He doesn't fit in with the world or the cartoony enemies. I think a more playful and simple design would have worked much better. Something like this:

Oh well.

I can't wait to see a trailer that reveals some story and other areas!

It looks more like TP meets Braid than TP meets WW.

I know it will be good because it's a console Zelda, even though the unveiling had its problems. Visually, it already looks more appealing than Twilight Princess, mostly due to the saturated color. I like the slight watercolor effect as well. Character designs don't look as inspired as some of the NPCs in Wind Waker, but we've seen so little so I can't knock it too much just yet. I'm glad the impressions are positive; even though this game doesn't look to be Zelda's "Mario Galaxy" I'm still hyped!

Art style looked amazing and so far all the press twitters are saying that the controls are way, way better than what showed at the press conference. Calibration issues likely.

Fuck the haters on the conference demo. Im %100 percent positive on the game controlling perfectly/way better than what we saw here, and it looked beautiful. HYPE.

Style looks amazing. I'm sure once we get out of the "happy forest" introductory section and into the more exotic locales everyone's going to realize exactly how awesome this will look.

Honestly, the "beginner's forest" in every zelda game since OOT has looked like ass because it's always boring.

I really wish they would've went back to the Wind Waker art style, something is off with the way this one looks, dont know what it is.

Wow I can't wait to see the art style applied to different environments! I saw the volcano one in the trailer, but I really want to see some night time renders. Plus, let's not forget that they aren't even finished with the game yet.

Screw the haters, the game looks absolutely gorgeous. If I'm not looking closely, I actually have trouble believing some of those shots are real-time and no concept art.

the graphics actually remind of me Super Mario Sunshine for some reason
Definitely reminiscent of a GameCube-era platformer. I was thinking Spyro or something. I don't know, I guess I was expecting something a little more unique.

I think it's unique. TP x WW :D

kotaku video just confirmed that this game will be amazing. Take your time Nintendo. I'm willing to wait for Zelda.

Can't fucking wait though. :D

The kotaku video does look much better than the exaggerated movement of Miyamoto. I have more hope. Though the graphics look awful, but it's a wii game so that's totally normal and expected so no complaints there :).

Guys, you do know that the music in the trailer has been used for TP before, right?

where is shockingalberto who said that everyone who thought it would be celshaded would be disappointed? OWNED

He actually posted a few pages back. :P

Wasn't this game supposed to out do Monster Hunter Tri?

Don't get me wrong, the game has a FANTASTIC art style, but technically it looks like some shit. It's doing some cool effects like the painting effect in distant backgrounds instead of depth of field but other than that, TP takes a shit on it technically.

Yes, it's still early in dev (actually I hope not) but come on! Where are the beatiful almost inviting environments??

As I said, it does seem like they threw together a map which allows the user to test as many of the new items as they can. I have no doubt there will be many diverse and beautiful environments, but I guess we'll see more soon... in a year at E3 2011!

I think its funny that people are complaining that this is not inspired yet rehashing the Wind Waker style would automatically make it inspired..... Man you TWW fanboys are selfish. Go play your 5 zelda with that style.

Anyway I think that picture above reminds me of yoshi story.

BTW check out that kotaku video where the guy zooms out and shows the map. It looks like LTTP!

1. I just played Halo 3 and think that looks already dated
2. I hate the style, loved WW
3. I think this screen looks particularely ugly (think is mostly because the plants dont fit the rest of the style), some others are a little better.
4. Even taking in account this is old hardware I think many games on the same hardware look more appealing.
5. I didnt even finish TP, had too many Zelda's already, cant see how this would could excite me as it just looks like more of the same.
