The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom |OT|

We should have worked on a better thread title... but ok.
This game is so much fun! I just got off The Great Sky Island but it will take every ounce of willpower not to complete this game soon.

I don't know if this post is serious.

On one hand, "I'm really enjoying the game so far..." followed by "It doesn't feel even close to an outstanding effort."

Then what are you enjoying? And if you're not really enjoying it, then why are you playing it?

I mean you can still enjoy a game even if you don't think it's outstanding. I don't see anything wrong with what he said.

Your reasoning here is illogical. There's a thousand of nuances in a positive opinion.

Yea for example, Mario Odessey is a fantastic game, I loved it but its not even the best 3D Mario game imo, both things can be true, nothing is ever flawlessly perfect

😂 I love how this series has puzzles that aren't too hard, but often make you feel extremely accomplished for figuring it out. You almost want to pat yourself on the back 😅

Not too many games invoke that sense of accomplishment.

yea they do, I could almost play a game of just these at times

Ya know…. If I wanted to play Minecraft, I would….

Love the vibe of the game, but it's every bit as tedious as the first.

You can unlock an autobuild mode to remove that tediousness, plus once youre done with the sky tutorial you can build as much or as little as you want to barring shrine puzzles

I just notice npcs get out of the rain. That's pretty cool.

All wells can be entered

The caves are a cool addition.

It's much more of a real living world this time.

We could already see it in Botw. But it's cool, yeah.

So far, I'm pretty satisfied. I'm still in the beginning (a few hours in Hyrule), but the crafting aspect doesn't bother me at the moment. It's still very basic really, nothing overwhelming.

It's full of mysteries and I like that.

I could care less about the building. If I'm required to build a plane to traverse an island, I'll built a flat 4x4 platform with a rocket on the back. If I'm required to to build something to scale a cliff, I'll stack some blocks to make stairs.

The only time I might put any amount of effort and creativity into building, is if I can kill Ganondorf with a giant penis shaped rocket.

He ain't reincarnating after a defeat like that.

Guys, do you think next Zelda will go back to the old and classic style on the next Switch??? or they will keep making an open world cel shading style game??

Is it true that regular enemies hit harder compared to BotW? Combat was by far my least favorite part of BotW, so if combat even against random mobgoblins in TotK is harder than in BotW, then that might put a bit ot a damper on my enjoyment unfortunately.

Encouraging. I Don't hate… it's just tedious

Damn trees came to life and attacked me so I lit their asses on fire and rolled a bomb into them

I also used Recall on a log I sent flying in an explosion to surf back the way it came through a pack of moblins. I also made a hovercraft of doom with spears on the front to cruise through enemies, though it's really tough to kill them that way since I can't figure out how to steer the damned thing.

Holy fuck I just discovered King Ghidorah while exploring the skies. Decided to pick a fight but ran out of stamina and fell to my death :messenger_grinning_smiling:

I like how you can travel to your destination very easily if you know what to craft. I've had a couple times where I undershot my destination and was really screwed. I built this giant pole out of trees, but it hit the ledge and fell off the cliff.

Actually love the OP for this OT. 96 MC game, one picture and two links. That's classy and how its done.
Yes thank you my friends.

It's bootyful how it came together in its simplicity likes this. I have had many compliments.

Do not minds the pesky clout chasers who tries to sully the legendary GigaBowser name:

Mf copied the OT from resetera and hijacked M mortal 's OT reservation. Should be permed for giving the GOTY such a shitty thread.

I gotta ask how are this games physics better than every single game on the next gen consoles? Everything reacts and works within the world - even the cloth and hair and fire - - surely this is possible to a much greater degree on the next gen systems

For fucks sake...I know every one is getting it, but this game is incredible....jeeezus.

How do they do it?

Genuinely, nothings going to come close for years...makes me kinda sadge but at least I have this to play lol

Sticking a frond leaf on a sword makes it cock D. Blows Link-sized skeletal enemies apart in a single gust it seems. Haven't tried it on one of the big guys yet.

This world is immense, and I haven't even touched caves yet. It seems like everywhere I turn there's side quests and stuff to do, things to discover. I felt like after about 12 or so hours of BotW I'd pretty much covered the entire map. I have poured tons of hours into this since launch and I have barely uncovered 10% of the map, probably less. The scope of this game is wild.

Well, unlocked the ability to use towers and glider....again. I'll probably stop here for tonight.

Game still isn't impressing me a whole lot. There's a LOT of "stop playing the game and piss around in menus" going on. Whether it's going in to your inventory to drop stuff on the ground or in a pot, or swapping powers and dragging planks of wood around and flipping and angling them, etc. I detest busywork and that's all it feels like I've done so far. Shame, I like the focus on a more prominent story this time around, but the gameplay systems are not grabbing me. I actually don't mind it in the shrines, they've been pretty varied and keeping me on my toes, but stuff like hold up builder guy's sign is just tedium.

Anyone know if you can manually disassemble weapons you've fused together?
Overall so far I'm enjoying it, but agree with lots of what you're saying.

Thoughts after the first 5 hours or so:

The biggest thing so far is the controls. They are simply terrible with no option to changed them outside of B and X. Using system wide button mapping is not a proper solution. On top of the already bad controls you have the controls for the Ultrahand ability, which are just messy.

Shrines are better already, and I've already completed a few with crazy methods. Using the Reverse Time and Ultrahand together in specific ways.

World has lots more going on compared to BotW, more NPCs, stuff to interact with. That being said they still have mostly unrewarding exploration and rewards. Finding a hidden chest will mostly give you some consumable item which is lame. I'm not wanting every single chest to have an amazing item, but it should be more similar to Elden Ring where the items you get in chests were vastly more rewarding.

When NPCs tell you map info, they should mark it on your map, even if it's more of a general circle of an area. Only did a few quests so far, and they are noting amazing, but do get you to explore and try some things.

The "car" and the like are fun to use. Gliders are fun too. I like to run the bokoblins over.

Framerate can TANK during fights with 5+ enemies and I haven't checked yet, but if feels much lower than 20 fps at times.

Currently at 6 or 7 hearts and about 20 korok seeds. Got anther horse and already 4 carry over from BotW.

Cool. Why not try posting them? That way we can get where you're coming from.

Otherwise...

The sky looks pretty small and the underworld looks pretty shit.

I'm really enjoying the game so far but honestly i don't know if some posts are serious or not. It seems so off with my experience, maybe i need to play more. It doesn't feel even close to an outstanding effort so far.

...not a whole lot of nuance to be found in that text.

Yeah, I got a little excited when DF said the games framerate was mostly stable. What a laugh. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I still can't get the horse transfer working. :messenger_weary:

I didn't even know it was a thing until I got to a stable to grab a register a horse. Didn't do anything other than play this on the same Switch as I played BotW (which I think is also installed still).

My Best Buy copy took too long to get through the mail. I got it at Walmart and will return the Best Buy copy. They lost a sale.

I'm glad I didn't replay BotW before this, because I think it would have diminished the experience and maybe even make TotK feel repetitive. It's been several years so I can't remember where a lot of things are (towns in particular), which makes it feel like I'm exploring from scratch, and I'm loving it all over again.
Zelda has essentially become a physics sandbox game. I don't know who to blame. They did a similar thing with Banjo Kazooie.
When I made my first cart I immediately thought of Nuts & Bolts lol

I only played BotW once back in early 2018, so hopefully my experience is the same as yours.

I take back whatever I said about the image quality of this game. Yea, it was rough in some early patches, but I feel like I am playing the loveliest Ghibli fantasy movie here twelve or so hours in.

I don't know, but I'm just not feeling it like I did with BOTW in the early game. This tutorial area is a slog and I don't think it looks as nice as BOTW did in handheld mode (playing on OG Switch). I suspect that is because they made it with the OLED model in mind - everything looks too bright and garish, with loads of jaggies. It may force me to play in docked mode tbh.

Played it docked for first 4 hours or so (on non OLED) and another few hours today portable (non OLED Switch).

Portable looks much worse to me, and not because resolution or anything like that.

My opinion - docked mode is WAY better looking. Also it gets way better after the first 5 or so hours - it took a minute to click for me completely.
