The Mario, Tetris, and D&D movies will all have come out next week - will you be watching any of them?

I think this counts as gaming discussion, maybe. close the thread if it isn't

couldn't find any decent posters

Are you planning to see any of them? If you have, what did you think?

edit: added trailers, because why not

Tetris is the only one that looks interesting.

Mario is for children, so not for me.

D&D is based on a game I have no knowledge of. The film comes across as Marvel mixed with generic fantasy. Hard pass.

The only one that'd interest me to watch immediately is Tetris. But I already know the Tetris story, so the draw isn't that big.

Mario is something I'll watch on the couch somewhere down the line.

All D&D movies so far have been awful, this doesn't look like it will break the habit.

I feel the Mario movie will not just be "bad" it could cause a table-turning effect where Mario takes Sonic's place as the most bitched about thing in gaming, More People will most likely start light-ing up on Sonic and Sega again, while Mario goes through a heavy decline, that is the same amount of similar scrutiny - Sonic has faced for the past 15 years, will now be applied to Mario

Mario, for sure.

The D&D movie seems to be reviewing well too, so maybe that.

I'll only watch Tetris if some of my friends feels like watching them.

The tetris one is too hoollywod for me. And gaming historian did it best already.

I was just going to link to this! One of his best videos, and one of the most compelling behind-the-scenes stories in gaming. I'm cautiously hopeful about the movie, just because the true story its adapting is so inherently compelling, but I am worried that they'll try too hard to make it "exciting" and "dramatic" and end up making something formulaic and underwhelming. Still, I'll probably try out Apple TV+ for a month eventually anyway, because I've been wanting to see Joel Coen's Macbeth adaptation for over a year now, so I'll probably give Tetris a shot then.

The Mario movie looks ... fine, I guess. It looks like a cute little family film, and that's great, that's what it should be. It should be something that brings joy to 6 - 12 year olds and that their parents can sit through painlessly thanks to its pandering to their childhood nostalgia. But it's probably not for me, even though I still love playing Mario games. I just want different experiences from movies than I do from video games. That said, if I walk by a TV someday in the future and it happens to be on, I'll probably sit down and watch it.

I played D&D for years, but the movie looks fucking horrendous. Youtube force fed me the first five seconds of the trailer and even that was painful. Just looking at the poster, I can taste a little bile in the back of my throat.

Kids want to see Mario, so I'm stuck there. D&D looks like something I would have been interested in when I was a teenager, never heard of the Tetris movie.

I'm worried about the DND movie. It's gonna get murdered by John Wick 4 and Mario. Which is a shame, because it seems like they put a lot of work and heart into the movie. I'm seeing it this Sunday with my DND group.

I saw DND last night. I liked it, it was fun. But I have never played DND, or at least traditionally. But it's extremely light hearted and slapstick. I could see it not being well received by fans, but I have no reverence for the source material.

Definitely seeing Mario, looks shockingly good.

No real interest in Tetris.

D&D and Mario for sure. Not sure about Tetris, probably not.

D&D one is going to be the most fun (and going by the impressions of those who've actually seen it, everyone dismissing it is way off mark), and I expect the jokes to be funnier than Mario movie too, but that looks great as well.

Welcome back o GAF where people who have never played a game or watched a movie will spend 400 pages shitting on it.

D&D looks tacky as fuck.

That guy played Captain Kirk in that shitty Star Trek movie directed by J J fuckface. Pass.

The movie is great. So as usual do the opposite of GAF and go see this.

D&D (the mimic was done well in the trailer so the ENTIRE move must be great) and Mario for sure, will pay for these and watch them in a theater (double feature on Tuesday maybe....Wick 4 and D&D).

Tetris will steam tonight maybe.

If Mario turns out to be good I'm watching it 100%. If a similar type of Mario Movie released when I was a child I would have lost my damn mind. I kind of owe it to younger me to watch it to make up for the time I watched that garbage Mario Movie from back in the day.

I'm 100% watching the Mario movie, with the all star cast and apparent production value it's going to be worth watching even if it sucks, but I don't think it will.

Tetris is a maybe, seems cool but I'll wait and see how it is.

D&D I have no interest in unless it gets super great ratings

No. They all look mostly shit.

Tetris=Too Holywood Contrived

Maro=Designed for kids and Kidults who want to keep screeching about every little reference they saw.

D&D=Seems somewhat fun but more in a we ripped off marvel way which just seems old now......still somewhat interested.

Will watch all three.

Watched Tetris today. I really really really liked it. Great movie, great story for one of the greatest games of all time. unmissable.

I know D&D is supposed to be better than the trailers look but I'm not willing to take a chance because it looks like complete trash. The tetris story could make for a great film but apparently all sorts of liberties are being taken so I'll pass. I'll see Mario but I'm not expecting much out of it.

I'm gonna take my kid to see Mario next week and I'll likely watch the other two when they are available to stream.

Edit: Completely forgot Tetris was on Apple TV. Guess I'll try watching it this weekend.

Liberties? You realise it's a movie right, and not a documentary? Alexey Pajitnov, Henk Rogers and Maya Rogers were all executive producers on the movie. Reading some random comment on gaf about how the movie took "all sorts of liberties" made me cringe hard af

Obviously a video game forum on the Internet knows more about Tetris than its creator.
