Could be old, but Deathsmiles is going to Iphone next,

Next up for the iPhone from Cave is Deathsmiles. Cave didn’t just port the game over, though — in addition to Arcade Mode, they gave it a new mode with a new character, too, called the “iPhone Mode”. iPhone Mode is aimed at both those who are new to the game, as well as those who have seen everything the console version of Deathsmiles has to offer.

iPhone Mode stars a character named Tiara, princess of Gilverado. Cave say she dotes on her subjects and friends, but is ice-cold to those that threaten her kingdom. In iPhone Mode, she takes on an evil witch coven.

You can power Princess Tiara up with items either dropped by enemies or bought at Sakura’s Shop within the game.

Deathsmiles Will Fly To iPhone With A Whole New Mode And Character

iPhone Mode’s scenario and character designs are handled by manga-ka Yukinatsu Mori. Mori based his style for the game on original character designs by Deathsmiles series illustrator, Junya Inoue. The mode will have brand new music composed by Takeshi Miyamoto (Muchi Muchi Pork, Pink Sweets).

Practice mode is in Deathsmiles for iPhone as well. Cave haven’t provided a release date for the game yet, but say they’ll announce one soon. In the mean time, you can watch a promo video for the game above.

Seems like a good place to ask this as a lot of people in here import - I've emailed NCSX and am waiting on them getting back to me but can anyone (in the UK/Europe) confirm that they will mark down the value of a game to avoid customs? Haven't ordered from them in years and can't remember if they did or not.

Maybe it's just me, but I just really can't get into Akai Katana. Try as I might, I have no idea what the heck I'm doing. Maybe it's time to retire from bullet hell.

Have you tried Zetsu mode (the "purple katana" mode)? The score basics are fairly simple, while Shin mode was quite confusing at first.

I got some of these 360 Cave shooters (region free ones) and just started playing them today. I had a blast! It's a shame that most of them new release now are region locked. Really tempted to pick up a used copy of Ketsui but then I don't even have a system to play it :(

I've actually read that already, thanks. I think what's confusing me a lot is the tiny differences between each of the three modes. Which is the mode most people tend to play?

Truth is I've been trying it out in Shin, man am I lost. I managed to shoot those katanas out the first time I played it, and now I can't for the life of me repeat it.

Red katana -> Shin mode
Green katana -> arcade mode
Purple katana -> Zetsu mode

Arcade and zetsu share the same scoring basics, Shin is quite different and bebpo already wrote a detailed guide here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=28137191&postcount=2079

For Zetsu, the basic cycle is very simple:

- blast everything in ship mode to get green orbs
- switch to ninja mode and blast everything (with laser) to get points until the bar runs out
- repeat

in ship mode: if you hold the fire button, you'll capture the green orbs around your pod and if the bullets touch them they'll grow bigger

in ninja mode: if you use shot or don't shoot at all you are invulnerable. When you kill enemies with shot, they spawn suicide bullets. When you kill enemies with laser, you get gold items and cancel the bullets around him into more gold items. When the gold circling around you start to become red, exit from ninja mode immediatly or you'll lose it.

Arcade Akai Katana is driving me insane today.

I swear to christ that I have more trouble with stage 2 than I do stages 3 and 4.

this is very frustrating. There has to be something I'm missing with the stage 2 boss.

That is legit difficulty. For Arcade Mode, Stage 2 boss is probably more difficult than most of the other bosses, simply because if you die there you feel like resetting. There's less slowdown than the arcade on her tight danmakus.

You're probably struggling on phase 2. I would encourage you to start near the bottom of the screen with this phase and constantly be shooting to make sure the capsules don't break into bullets. When the blue bullets or the lasers are fired at you, switch to shot and dash to safety. You'll want to curl into the curved danmaku to get away, that's why the pattern is built like it is.

Great to know that it isn't just me. I think I'm getting the hang of it, thanks!

I'm assuming there are other points with inaccurate slowdown?

I paid good money for this Dynex!
So out of curiosity, is the US version of Deathsmiles as arcade-accurate as the Japanese version is? I know the patch added slowdown back in, but I have no idea how much...

I wish Cave had done something at E3. We're still in Dondonpachi Daifukkatsu and Akai Katana no man's land... :(

Ugh, why did I decide to order Akai Katana from Yesasia?

It's been 4 weeks and it didn't arrive. I emailed them and they're scheduling a reshipment but it's showing as in stock in 1-2 weeks on the site + another week at least to get here.

Never again Yesasia, never fucking again.

In general, the speed of reflected bullets towards your ship is faster compared to the arcade, and the stage 5 mid-boss has slightly jittery slowdown. Those are the only points really, and actually I prefer the game more difficult because the arcade version was too easy.

Just clearing the game with the No. 1 Ship is a pretty brutal challenge.

Maybe you guys can help with a question I have. I bought Mushihime-sama Futari but it didn't come with the DLC card like the first print run did. If I buy the Black Label DLC, will the content that came with the DLC card for the first print run be included in it also?

Nope the pre-order content is separate.

How do the cave iPhone games look blown up to an iPad full screen - iPhone res is higher than the arcade boards, right (so I'm guessing it looks fine)?

Deathsmiles bought. My two iOS devices are too outdated to run Cave shooters but I keep buyin em.

Bring on iPhone 5 already!

Man, I love Cave and I'm lovin' Deathsmiles. I don't have the change to blow to pick it up quite yet, but Cave is always good for making a lite version.

Dressing up a tween in magic jewelry is funner than I thought it would be!

Game's name on the Canadian store is in Japanese. WTH.
Pretty sure it's a normal name in the US store.
Yeah it's Japanese for me too (Canada). Oh well, maybe they'll fix it in an update... And if not, Desusumairuzu it is!

Welp, game doesn't work on IOS 5b2, which is a damn shame. Crashes after selecting game mode and pressing "Start Game".

I can't help but feel that it's a bad oversight that Cave didn't test this on IOS5. Lots of 'hardcore' iphone users have installed this beta as it is pretty stable and was easy to obtain. I guess I'll have to wait now for the official IOS5 release, as the game will have to be fixed by then.

I posted this in the pick-up thread, but might as well mention it here too. I finally got my hands on a copy of Ketsui Death Label. I know it's essentially a glorified boss-rush game, but it looks absolutely beautiful on my DSi XL, and I'm loving it!

Are there any other particularly good shooters available for the DS or PS3 that I need to be aware of?

I've been playing Death Smiles 2 over the last week or so, and I gotta say the game has grown on me a ton. I think I'm starting to prefer it over the original game, especially since I don't like Death Mode in DS1. But anyway, I finally got a decent score for Arcade mode (901m with Lei). My run was really sloppy though, and I didn't even clear it. So I think I'm going to start aiming for 1 billion+ now. Should be fun.

I'm liking X-mode more as well, but I don't think its scoring system is nearly as fun as Arcade. It's still good though.

The two Nanostray games on DS are pretty good. Can probably be found pretty cheap these days too.

On the subject of DS shmups, what ever happened to that Raid over the River game? Think that's what it was called.
