I am really digging on Coven's first record. And what a fabulous title -- "Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls."

It's a great album, eventhough some of the material is a bit so-so. BTW, I've got the vocalist Jinx as a FB friend, I don't know her personally though, and I find it cool that she seems to be into the same stuff, even after fifty years.

I noticed that she has a pretty expansive mail order for old Coven merch. Do you think she still sings? She had a great voice.

I dunno, but she tends to post a lot of those merchandise links, and Coven/occult related material in general.

Kinda reminds me of Symphorce (who aren't quite as speedy, more melodic with a slightly raspy high register singer) a tad bit I think, Power Metal isn't a main point of interest for me :p

Twice Second
Fun fact, the opening of this song/album uses the same whale sounds sample that Katatonia used in the song Deadhouse.

I'm giving that a listen right now. I can see how Jens would remind you of this singer, he almost sounds like a calmer version of Jens at times. Definitely a competent band.

For me, power metal has only grown on me since I first heard Kamelot ~10 years ago.

If you crave more Jens he's also on the first two Dark Empire albums.

This is pretty cool, it was posted on Insomnium's facebook:

http://suvilehto.bandcamp.com/

All instruments by one guy under 20 years old.

No idea he had been in another band. Thanks for telling me.

I dug their stuff, a shame the second Savage Circus album is terrible compared to their great debut.

And Jens sounds nearly identical to Hansi Kursch, just a little grittier :p

Yeah I see that comparison being made on most videos with Persuader/Savage Circus. Hansi is a pleasure to listen to as well. :)

And I actually prefer Persuader overall compared to Savage Circus. It saddens me that they never got any real recognition across the world.

Man, Spotify is the best. I've discovered so many new bands thru them. I just find a band I like, click on a random band under Related Artists, and see if I like them, then continue. I just found a fund metal band called Iron Mask. Neo-classical fun.

Edit: Just found another fun neo-classical/power metal band called Steel Attack.

This is fun!

I have always disliked kerry. I could never figure out where the dude gets his ego from. Hes a painfully sub mediocre player and just an all around miserable human being.

My thoughts exactly. Hanneman has written 99% of all the good Slayer songs. And then Kerry King likes to jump on them a fuck them up with his baffling, incoherent solos.

Tonight, February 22, friends of mine are arranging a streamed gig, which might interest some of you.

Seems like the Demilich stream isn't working.

So I ordered the Vlad Tepes/Belketre split album on vinyl and it just showed up today. Vinyl packaging for black metal is so great, especially for these LLN bands. It's so over the top.

Huge essay on the inside. I couldn't get a non-blurry pic with my phone so it could be read. It's basically just a long rant about the rules of black metal, satanism, poseurs, and how people suck and should die.

Other side of the gatefold:

Back with more amazing quotes:

Oh, the album itself is great too.

I was never a big Slayer fan, so I was always baffled at any attention Kerry King got, he's fucking awful.

Also live Hanneman was always better whenever I saw them.

Im certainly not disagreeing with you. Its been a long time since i cared about Slayer.

Yep.

Here's another rare one; an old Beherit recording.

Beherit - The Oath of Black Blood (At the Devil's Studio 1990)

more weird dissection sauna insider stuff! :D I usually don't confess how much I like them in public haha
there was a better version somewhere once, but it's still awesome.
this was with the new line up though. the picture shows the "old" members right?

EDIT: And more old Dissection pics.

PzbCplx.jpg

edit: ah ok, thanks :D holy shit that's jon on the far right isn't it? hahahah where did you get these?

I've been following that page since you posted them a while back. Lots of Entombed and Ipetigo worship lately. So fucking awesome.

What the hell was this Dissection Maha Kali? I couldn't get into Reinkaos at all, but loved the first two albums. Somberlain is right up there with Storm of the Light's Bane.

I just gave the "like" to those pages too and was also surprised to see Impetigo because it's a band that was all the rage when I started to listen to death metal but somehow I completely forgot about them. Listening to them right now to amend the mistake.

Yeah, those two pages are great sources for old metal pics, and I was pleased to see those Impetigo shots as well.

EDIT: I dunno, I haven't really listened to their material after SofLB that much.

I don't know it's just this one song I'm crazy about + strangely enough it was what got me into dissection in the first place so I guess that's that. no offense :D

regarding jon's personal views and opinions it actually makes a whole lot of sense that they sing about kali :p

I thought the guy maybe pulled a "Ray Cappo" and turned to Hinduism in prison or something. Found this interview that explains a bit. http://www.blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=57028

besides the obvious Celtic Frost influence:
Cianide
Thergothon
first Cathedral album

Not as slow or lo-fi as Winter, but:
Grief
Noothgrush
Thorr's Hammer

I actually got to see Winter last year in SF. Sounded EXACTLY like the album, haha, but it was a good show. Noothgrush played on the same bill as well.

Yeah, I saw Winter last year at Roadburn and was one of the best shows of the festival that year. The sound and execution of the songs were just perfect, it really sounded like the recorded versions, I had the same impression as you.

And thanks for the recommendations. I will check Cianide and Thergothon, never heard them.

it seems like the integrity show next to my town has been cancelled. fuck my life :(
maaaan

Sucks. They are playing Resurrection Fest which is hc festival close to my hometown which I always attend but this year it's going to be difficult for me to go. But the line up this year kind of sucks anyway (too much modern metalcore for my liking) so aside from Integrity it's not much of a loss, actually.

Impetigo pics are always great.
if anyone's interested in no omega's album metropolis, you can download it for free =)

Did not know them, they are fucking loud, me likey. Reminds me a bit of Celeste in terms of sound, being so saturated and crunchy. Completely different styles, of course. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQrU6-nhUy4

The new Stratovarius album is fucking insanely good.

Pretty fucking wild how good this band has gotten after all the drama with Tolkki and his subsequent exit. Polaris, Elysium, and now Nemesis are all rock solid as hell.
