Kerry is the only human i know of who has been playing guitar for around 30 years yet somehow inexplicably managed to learn absolutely nothing about the instrument. I dont even know how thats possible. I think after a few years even a chimp would have figured out a pentatonic scale.

Well I don't agree on that with Kerry, but that for sure is valid for Dave Chandler.

I remember reading a long time ago that Kerry King actually took lessons right after South Of Heaven. That's why some of his solos on Season In The Abyss actually sound ok. After that long break and for Divine Intervention it sounded like he totally forgot everything he learned, haha.

That spider chord is really hard to do it, I give pros for dave for mastering it.

Not really. It's just a more efficient way to switch from the Low E to A power chords and vice versa. Its still an interesting trick but most decent players can switch between those chord positions fast enough without using their second and fourth finger. He does something similar when he plays E to F. He frets the B on the A with his middle finger and then he frets the F and C with his first and third finger without lifting off the B.

So the Bongripper and Conan "Live At Roadburn" arrived the other day. I loved the Conan album "Monnos", but this Live At Roadburn cd is kind of unbearable for me. Something about the bass drum being way too low end "thump" for me. I can handle listening to Sunn O))) at loud volumes all day, but this Conan live recording is just kinda of making me fatigue :\

awesome album art though:

Awesome art indeed. They seem to get the most badass imagery from artists (or is it only one?). I found a Conan gig poster on a wall in Hamburg a few weeks ago (just a day after the gig had taken place somewhere) and took it with me. A nice poster for my rehearsal room!
Btw, have you heard the Wino@Roadburn 2009 record? I think it's one of the best stoner live albums I've heard. It's up on Spotify!

At least flu likes me, so i spended whole day in bed, listening to older My Dying Bride albums and Warning/40 watt sun. Thought that i would chase flu away with some depressing music but it failed :|

Looks like the new Carcass record finally has a name: http://www.terrorizer.com/2013/02/27/carcass-exclusively-reveal-album-title-to-terrorizer/

That, along with the song titles there have me so hyped. Can't wait to hear 'em!

“A lot of what is happening now is based on rhythms rather than actual riffs. We were discussing this a lot during record sessions about how the riff is almost dying or dead already. People spend a lot of time chugging on the bottom string [but] that’s a rhythm it’s not a riff – we can’t write a song, never mind an album, without it being choc-full of riffs.”

Absolutely true. Rhythm and over-production smothering most metal albums these days. Glad Steer and Walker acknowledge this because Steer is a riff machine. I'm getting giddy about this, especially that they're actually naming their songs that resembles stuff off of Necroticism.

A little late in the news but Chris Torpy of We Lost the Sea took his own life this past Saturday.
I'll be spinning "The Quietest Place on Earth" today of out respect.

RIP

pure antichrist :p I'm ok with that

I've been listening to ictus again and remembered how awesome they are.
does anyone else know a band with similar vocals?
I love this shit

The most similar I can think of is Wolfpack but you probably know them. If not then you must listen to this right now! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbUcUSCYRqw

These are other good crust/dbeat bands from Spain that are kind of in the same style as Ictus

Leadershit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTN5hBhlpY0

Derrota https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZo7O7OXofg

Ursus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_N2MOk-aorQ

Horror (very different vocals from Ictus but great dbeat band, I love them, specially live) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTiPm4fZCpA

On the Carcass subject I am also really looking forward to the new material. I am one of those rare individuals that like everything Carcass has ever made. I even think Swansong is on my top 3 Carcass albums so I have every reason to believe I will love their next one, whatever they decide to do.

new tribulation was released recently. might disappoint people that are big fans of the horror at first. from what i can hear of the couple new songs they went with a kind of atmospheric, kind of proggy thing. i'm usually not into that as much these days, but i'm digging it. might have to retry the horror, as i wasn't the hugest fan of that as well. but since i wasn't, i have nothing to be disappointed about lol. i can dig it.

I just wish half the songs that was released as Swansong should have been replaced by the Bill Steer material that showed up on the Wake Up And Smell The Carcass comp :\

Whoa, I just realized "Thrasher's Abattoir" was a song on the old Carcass rehearsal tapes, guess they're really digging deep.

I'm surprised and glad that Bill is the one who seems to have spearheaded this. I always thought he was kind of sick of the Carcass thing so I was worried a bit at first that his heart might not be there or whatever. But awesome to see that that is not the case.

Why should they avoid the Czech republic? Are countries with a criminal justice system all of a sudden a no-go for metalbands? He was accused, stood trial and was aquitted. I do not see the fiasco here.

edit: I actually forgot that Terror cancelled some shows there because of Randy's incarceration. But that just seemed to be something that punished the fans and did nothing to actually help Randy. Oh well, hope the bands are well-informed enough to realise that nothing fishy has been going on in this case.

Soilwork's The Living Infinite is $7.99 at Best Buy today, which is pretty crazy good for a double album. Awesome album, too. I think because of the sheer quantity it's possibly their best album of all. I still hold a special spot in my heart for Natural Born Chaos, though.

I was pretty surprised looking through the booklet. I was expecting a ton of stuff written by Strid, since he's one founder left, really. It's a huge band effort, though, with even some lyrics done by someone other than Strid. I'm really impressed.

I was disappointed by the first track they released but the other tracks on youtube sound better.

You dont see the fiasco of being accused of something that you weren't involved in that happened in your proximity completely unbeknownst to you and you being jailed/charged for it? Seriously?

They accused him of manslaughter, he went to trial to prove that he was innocent of the charges levelled against him, the court agreed and aquitted him. Isn't that pretty much how it's supposed to be?

Whoops, new page. First spin of the new Soilwork double album is very promising, "The Living Infinite II" is one of the early standout tracks besides the already published singles.

He was falsely charged and detained. Not to mention he shelled out something like half a million to make bail and they didn't even grant it to him but still took his money and stuck him into a pretty notorious prison for something like 3 months. Thats a clusterfuck in any country. I'd have major trepidations of going somewhere where something like that happens. Not saying that its the norm over there, just saying that if you're in similar shoes that has to cross your mind when going there.

new Serpent Throne album "Brother Lucifer" is now up for pre-order:

Comes out 4/19/13

Track List

1. Foxtrot Tango Whiskey
2 Enough Rope To Hang Yourself
3. Devil’s Breath
4. Brother Lucifer
5. Widowmaker
6. As The Crow Flies
7. Fubar
8. Napalm Mourning

Say there was a heavy rock festival in like '72 where Black Sabbath, Wishbone Ash, the Scorpions, Budgie, and like Cactus are supposed to play, but then, due to a series of plane crashes and natural disasters, only 1 surviving member from each band can make it. In order to calm down the crowd of heavy rockers, Iommi grabs a couple dudes from the other bands and puts together an emergency band. And then Uli Roth says, "We don't need a singer because he'll just get in the way of the riffs." I think that's what Serpent Throne is aiming for. Whether we get there or not is another story, but we'll drink some beer and rip some guitar harmonies along the way.

Not sure how I feel about the overall war theme of this, but it might work. I'm in love with band, but only have White Summer|Black Winter. They've completely captured the 70's sound and harmonies. Back to basics.

He was detained june 27 and sat in jail until august 3 when he was released on a 400.000$ bail. Besides the obvious point that it would be better if an innocent man doesn't have to stand trial, I don't see the problem. And I certainly don't see anything here that should make bands think twice about touring the Czech republic.

Well I see a problem. I couldn't reconcile losing 400k and however many days of my life in prison just because someone needed a scapegoat for a tragedy I had nothing to do with. We can go ahead and just disagree on the matter.

My point was just that the Czech republic is a modern European democracy, and it would be a sad outcome of all this if Czech fans are missing out on tours, because somehow this case have made bands wary of ending up in a "gulag"-prison.

But yes, lets just agree to disagree. Be happy for Blythe, and pour one out for a fellow metalwarrior (the guy who died).

Why would he lose the bail money if he showed up for the court date? Obviously the whole prison time should be compensated.

I agree that it would be a shame if the fans missed out because of this. My point was that because this whole thing was handled in a very shady manner I could see if it made bands nervous about going over there.

*edit* Raystorm I dont know anything about the Czech justice system so I couldn't answer that.
