I wouldn't be surprised if at least a couple of them have done anime OP/ED songs but maybe just...this is what is popular with young kids these days and us 30+ year olds are the ones complaining...sigh...actually, even for concerts, sometimes awesome bands like Obituary and Nile are maybe only 60% full lately, but a band like BFMV is sold out within days after announcement...I thought metalcore would become more popular here but for some reason it is still only so so popular...punk is more popular by far right now, which is probably why even Ozzfest has a few punk-ish bands playing.

Here are some of the other bands appearing:

Akihiro Namba (actually kind of like this guy, it is just punk not metal...) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXGDol9V9I4

Crossfaith (screamo?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BT4env-Tw2o

Head Phones President (this band seems pretty cool) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76w5eSRPbNA

Maximum the Hormone (SOTD of Japan??) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkzunNYOXzw

Man with a Mission (wolf mask band) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Q7Gcw-fqJg

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (WTF is this) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsOQm7A7hMo

Mucc (uhhhh, basically v-kei genre) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhFeZ6ikBKs

coldrain http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GM64P4yglZE

AAequal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcVuflAf5JY

Ningen Isu (Human Chair) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAO8mGuXbi8

I hated every single one of those bands.

besides Epicus Doomicus Metallicus: Nightfall, Ancient Dreams, and Tales of Creation are all equally good. Haven't heard their latest besides Death Magic Doom, which was also good.

Makes sure you learn the Messiah doomdance stomp

haha yeah, I knew that video from a while ago and actually listened to Nightfall also a couple times and loved it but all the other stuff I heard from them have a much more modern metal sound that I do not dig so much.

DrM

Redmond's Baby
What a mess (not the music, the moshpit). To be honest I hate moshpits. I go to shows to focus on the music, not to move like a crazy person.
Best mosh i experienced was on Cannibal Corpse. We were cramped into small hall and all turned into huge mosh. We even stagedived and Corpsegrinder gave us high 5s all the time and he yelled that this must be the most insane crowd ever.

But we were young then..

Just came back from an Absu concert. Holy crap, that was even better than in 2009. And they played Stone of Destiny, YESSSSSS

Proscriptor <3

I saw them last week and it indeed was awesome. When Proscriptor got up from the drums to do vocals at the mic stand, you knew it was on. Those guys are so much fun live.

Morrigan Stark

Arrogant Smirk
Cathedral then? Witchfinder General? ??

Oh, oh I know one you're unlikely to have heard. In the Colonnades. IIRC, the s/t is like a mix of 80's goth (e.g. Sisters of Mercy) and doom metal. Good stuff. The Stillborn debut is also kind of like that, one of my all-time favourite albums, but it's rare as hell.

I am not a very big fan of them either, so this is the most mixed emotion festival I will have ever attended in my life. There are a bunch of people flying from around the world to see either Black Sabbath or Slipknot so those people hopefully will not go ape nuts and throw things...actually the Momoiro Clover fans have invaded the HRHM board on 2ch and are posting things like "please don't mosh when Momoiro Clover is on stage, it would frighten them"...not even kidding...

Haven't been listening to much metal in the past year or two. Now that I have a sub to Rdio, any recommendations to check out? I'm good with anything melodic or progressive. My favorite artist is Opeth, though I've ventured into a certain amount of melodeath, metalcore, and power metal.

First thing I did was check out Animals as Leaders new album. Pretty disappointing compared to the debut album, to be honest. Do Not Go Gently is a fantastic song, though, so at least it's not all bad.

I've posted this many times before, but my favorite doom metal album is by these gents:

SYxaPoo.jpg

The Deep Blue - Antarctic Abyss

It's straight up Sleep worship at its finest. Chanting vocals, unbelievably heavy riffs. They've only released one EP since this one, called Sun Worshipper, that frankly wasn't as good. I emailed their label asking about 'em, and got a reply that they were working on something new. That was last year, and haven't heard anything since.

Anyway, here's the full album, two tracks only:

Under the Ice, The Resurrection

Haunted Tide, The Freezing Storm

Crank it way the fuck up and groove on it. Note that the sound quality is much better on the CD release.

If I were to ever form a band, it would be a direct copy of these guys and Sleep, mixed with some Pallbearer, three bands who achieved the pinnacle of the sound that I love.

Well, these arent melodic or progressive but if I never give up an opportunity to pimp these: Testament's Dark Roots of Earth(my personal album of last year) and Helloween's Straight Out of Hell(my album of the year so far) a listen.

Exactly! It's fucking amazing and it depresses me there are only 2 tracks (albiet long ones). Some of Sleep's stuff scratches the same itch, and Pallbearer (minus the chant vocals, though I do love Pallbearer's vocals just as well). I need more bands like this!

Doom is the best kind of metal next to sludge and thrash.
