All this talk of best band, best song, best drummer etc got me thinking about how futile and boring these kinds of lists can be.

Everyone has their own choice for any number of valid reasons.

What i propose is that we do a worst of list that exposes some of the truly dreadful musicians that have scarred our ears over the years.

First nomination from me is Matthew Archer, the original drummer from Paradise Lost.

The guy could hardly keep time and is responsible for some of the most boring drum tracks ever put to music.

I remember a drummer friend of mine way back in high school pointing out that the drumming on the Icon album was atrocious. I had to agree with him. From what I can remember, my friend pointed out to me that if you use a metronome to keep time (drummers, what do you expect :p) with the Icon album, the bpm changes dramatically within most songs, even when it shouldn't.

Another nomination would have to go to Mathias Lodmalm from Cemetary who is responsible for one of the worst guitar solos I have ever heard. Sadly it's on one of my favorite tracks too.

Behold, the solo to Now She Walks the Shadows from the Godless Beauty album.

There is nothing in the world could have prepared me for Adema's cover of Nutshell. It made my innards quiver. All of them. I imagine were my esophagus wide enough to accommodate my organs forcible escape, it would have been like one of those terrible 'i had way too much tequila' kind of puke sessions. The kind where it feels like you're regurgitating sand paper. My eyes are starting to water just recalling the horror.

Thanks everyone! ^_^ Truth be told it wouldn't kick as much ass if it weren't for the massive amount of great contributors out there.

Yes, I must echo everyone when I say thank you for that site. I have used it to find sooooo many good bands over the years.

Also, I just read the article about your site in the newest Decibel.

Metal Archives is amazing but sometimes I don't really understand what goes into whether or not a band is listed. For Today is but August Burns Red isn't? C'mon, son.

:p

The thought had crossed my mind that you might be the Morrigan I've seen in various Metal forums and on MA news updates.

Metal Archives is the best site ever. Seriously, damn good work.

Hell yes, I've been a traditionalist and used to just only go by a band's liner notes/thanks list to check out other bands or just by association. Metal Archives makes it easier and almost an infinite loop of discovering lots of other shit.

The idea of this is pretty awesome, at least. I've seen plenty of street performers living in the city for most of my life, but never metal bands, and certainly not kids, haha.

I used to see this old dude play blues for literally hours on 23'd street back in the day when i was in school. He was pretty damn good.

haha that was amazing

By the way, I went yesterday to see Cult of Luna and OMFG what a show. I had just seen them at Roadburn but came actually a bit disappointed with the sound and specially the volume (probably a bit spoiled by how freaking loud and well sounding most of the shows are at Roadburn always).

This was completely different, the instruments were very well balanced and not even the more subtle arrangements or keyboards got lost. Most important, it was LOUD.

The set list was very good although it's a shame they only play for one hour and a half since that's not enough for them to play some of their older stuff.

Wow, so that guy from As I Lay Dying had given up Christianity all together.

Guess he just became really pissed off at life, disillusioned.

According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, AS I LAY DYING frontman Tim Lambesis, who is accused of trying to hire a hitman to kill his estranged wife, pleaded not guilty earlier today (Thursday, May 9) to a felony charge of solicitation of murder and was ordered held on $3 million bail. He faces nine years in state prison if convicted.

At Lambesis' arraignment in Vista Superior Court in Vista, California, Deputy District Attorney Claudia Grasso said that the musician told someone at a gym that he wanted his wife dead. He allegedly met with an undercover agent posing as a hitman, who asked Lambesis if he wanted his wife gone, and Lambesis replied, "Yes, that's what I want." Lambesis then gave the agent an envelope containing $1,000 in cash with detailed instructions — including pictures of his wife, her address and the code to get through a gate and dates when the "hit" could take place; when he had his children, saying that would be his alibi on how to kill his estranged wife.

The prosecutor argued at the arraignment — which was attended by Tim's family, fans, AS I LAY DYING manager and band lawyer — that Lambesis be held on $20 million bail, but his defense attorney countered that the amount was unreasonable.

Defense attorney Anthony Salerno said afterward that he believed his client may have been the victim of a setup. "Law enforcement was fed something by someone who effectively orchestrated the whole thing ... [Tim] did not intend to harm anybody," said the lawyer, who added that someone may have given false information about Lambesis to authorities in order to "save his own skin." "If I had to hang a tag on it, I'd call it a scumbag snitch setup," he said.

A readiness conference has been scheduled for June 10 with a preliminary hearing to follow on July 10.

Photos and video footage of the arraignment from KFMB-TV and NBC 7 can be seen below.

Lambesis' wife Meggan filed for divorce in September, citing "irreconcilable differences." The couple, who had been married for eight years and were separated at the time, had adopted two girls at ages 6 and 8 in 2011 and a 1-year-old boy in 2009, all from Ethiopia.

The relationship suffered a major blow last August when Tim sent an email to his wife saying he no longer loved her and did not want to be with her anymore. He also wrote that he no longer believed in God, the prosecutor said.

Tim Lambesis was taken into custody without incident on Tuesday (May 7) around 2 p.m. at a Barnes & Noble bookstore in Oceanside, California, according to San Diego Sheriff's Department.

Authorities began investigating Lambesis, 32, in the case on May 2, when they received information that he allegedly was trying to get someone to kill his wife.

Lantern's full-length will be officially released near the end of this month by Dark Descent Records. They've just released the full stream of the album. Check it out! Extremely punishing and atmospheric death metal from the Finnish underground.

I like the songs but the production sounds really thin for a death metal album.

I've been listening to this Cerekloth album a lot lately which is in a similar vain to Lantern. Really good stuff.

good band, forgot they had a new LP out. About the new Lantern, it's funny that you mention the production because so far it seems to be everyone's first point of observation. I personally really like the way it's produced, but I'll admit I'm very partial to "space" and reverb in recordings especially when compared to a drier, more typical to death metal sound.

I'm so pissed at myself for buying this scumbag's new album. I can't even listen to this shit anymore, after what this guy's done. I could have spent that $10 on a worthier band.

Just a total betrayal to wife, kids, fans, humanity. It sucks!

I was really looking forward to the new Austrian Death Machine album.

At least he didn't go full Chris Benoit and that tragedy was avoided.

Yeah, thank God they caught him, before things became tragic.

Its not the 'Tim Lambesis Band', so dont feel bad. There's other members who are perfectly decent(that we can assume) and for me, provided the actual bulk of the music for our enjoyment. I actually feel very bad for them.
