Sorry but that song is cringe inducing.

I was not ready for how this was going to make me shoot liquids from my face. That is comically terrible.

Huntress is pretty bad. it's pretty much sold on having a lead with silicone tits, that's their hook.

Fine...let me appease the metal gods with a band I just found out about.....Lord Dying.

What Is Not....Is

Their debut album is on Relapse in July, that is from their demo.

Between Purson, Witch Mountain, Christian Mistress, Kylesa, Royal Thunder there are so many great bands with women on the mic. It is a bummer that band as corny as Huntress gets the play it does.

Not bad! Chimaira are always good for some head-banging.

But seriously, the link over on the side................new............August Burns Red...........!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdgGZFFEp1w

Its good. Its soooo good. :D

Way better than anything on their last album.

Yeah, it feels heavier than anything on Leveler, but still has some of that creativity that came out of that album. The breakdown is great, and I dig Jake's new singing-but-not-really thing in the "Just don't call me your hero" bit and at the end.

Plus, they finally tuned down to drop B so it's gonna sound a little heavier just from that.

Bros I was having some class for Modern History II and came with some ideias.
You see I'm studying the english revolution and some of the people of the time, the Gentry, made to the popular assembly by saying fuck those sub-divisions and lets unity.
What if metal was just like that, what if everyone just say it fuck those sub-divisions and unity together? I think metal would have a MUCH bigger place in music.

It's hard though, cus people will always say something like:

doom: oh is so boring there are only 3 power chords fuck this
death: ugly and noisy
black: they only talk about satan
sludge: i don't use drugs
power: fuck with those dragons?
heavy: too soft
metalcore: EMO

you know. We should forget that sub-genres and focus that is all METAL.
Just my thoughts...

Yeah, and Withmountain's Uta Plotkin is also super cute. I saw them at Roadburn and almost fell in love with her right there. Felt like a groupie or something :(

Picked up a vinyl copy of Vader's Revelations today at my local record store. Vader is a seriously underrated death metal band. This album probably has one of my favorite Vader songs on it too..

Revelations of Black Moses

I just love the lyrics in this song. "BLACK MOSES........is my name....."

I met a dude with a a janky Doro Pesch tattoo at a BBQ fest a couple weeks ago. He told me he went to Monsters of Rock in Donnington when he was in the army.

I like how everyone just ignored my post. Keep to your fucking subgenres them.
To be honest, I stopped reading your post at "bros".

...But since you insist, I went and forced myself to read it, and, well... I fail to see how you said anything of substance. Sub-genres are there for a reason. Sure, some idiots get overboard with the whole "progressive technical fusion djent/folk depressive-suicidal mathcore" nonsense, but there are very significant aesthetical and thematic differences between the main genres of traditional/heavy metal, thrash, black, death, doom, folk, and the genre tags serve a useful purpose in quickly giving a general idea of how the music sounds like. Discarding the subgenres entirely is throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

You that elitist to stop reading a text because of the word "bros"? Not much metal for you in the word, yes?
Anyway. I think none got the point, besides Mr. Sandman probably. I not saying to discard sub-genres. I'm saying Metal would have bigger spots without so much focus on them.

I don't really think the subgenres are a factor in metal being mainstream or not. at all.

Agreed, and I don't think that worries a lot of metalheads too much; I think most of us are not only drawn to the music and emotions of it all, but also the fact that it's kinda "outsider" music in a way.

Not only that, but why would anyone care about making metal mainstream? Why would that be particularly desirable? This is like the so-called kvlt kiddies who want their metal to be so obscure and underground, except in reverse.... which is really equally retarded.

I don't think so. I think bands like Coroner or Artillery would have survived if other fellow bands helped with they shitty label, imagine Metallica helping them. Or even Saint Vitus helping Bongripper or Baroness today, etc.

I'm not a socialist - far from it, I'm very capitalist-like. But I think Metal would have better position in a socialist form (not that thing from the XX century, just the words from Marx-Engels).

But in a small thread people just ignored what I say it because of a word "bro"? And this is the best thread in Metal for arguing. Imagine this on ultimate-guitar forum, etc. People just don't give a fuck anyway. Most metal-heads are elitists and focus only on the sub-genre they enjoy.

I don't even understand what your point is. Sub-genre is just a way of describing a band's sound. Why is that a bad thing? Because all metal needs to unite? Against what? Against other genres? I don't want to do that. I listen to other genres quite often.

What shitty label were Coroner and Artillery slapped with? People love those bands now. Blame their label and their inability to market themselves, not whatever sub-genre label they were slapped with(which they probably weren't even labeled with until much later).

no... man just forget whatever I say it. don't really see any reason to talk anymore about this here.

shut uuuuuuuuuuuuuuup
Kylesa's new album doesn't seem that great on first listen. Only song that grabbed me immediately was Steady Breakdown, that one kicks ass. Other than that, nothing stands out. Gonna give it a few more listens.

You can, but you should make your points clear. I don't think anyone got your message (if you had one) You say Mr Sandman got your point, but reading his post I still dont know what your point was.

What I got:
- Metal should unify and should focus less/not at all on subgenres (Okay?)
- Unification and less/no focus on subgenres will make metal MUCH bigger in music (Almost everyone responded to this part, claiming this is incorrect (and unnecessary). I agree)
- Fuck subgenres. Or not. "Most metal-heads are elitists and focus only on the sub-genre they enjoy" (What's your point?)
- If we don't focus on subgenres, bands could help each other (This doesn't make sense to me. And the examples you gave are of bands in the same subgenre helping each other)

And getting irritated doesn't help either

You really don't understand why someone would find it desirable to have something they enjoy be successful, accepted and non stigmatized?

Personally I would enjoy the bands I like to listen to to find success. To have a chance of hearing them in public/when I'm forced to listen to radio. I would like for them to continue making music, which probably works better when you have a degree of financial security. And altruistic speaking I would like for more people to enjoy what I consider good music. Things that are hidden, for whatever reason are unlikely to be found by people that are not already deeply invested.

Wanting a band to be successful is in no way the same as wanting a band to remain so deep in the underground not even their fans know where to find them.

the new Kylesa album seems pretty good at first listen. they definitely toned down the big tribal drumming of Spiral Shadow and there's more variety between the tracks; a bit of tasteful electronics and some very interesting guitar details here and there.

Just my thoughts...

Eh I think metal needs sub-genres, just for purposes of distinguishing among fellow metal-heads yet still respect each other's tastes. That's what disgusts me at times about the metal community, the lack of respect. Who cares if someone likes breakdowns, cleans, or bass drops in their metal, that's their taste. That's what they enjoy. There are too many people trying to act hard, tough, or "brutal".

The whole metalcore/deathcore scene got really really big a couple of years ago but is declining (imo) because its starting to suffer from "elitist" fever amoung the fans

My opinions though
