Fucking awesome, can't wait for this album. Also in new album news, Kalmah's new album is solid, but a little disappointing as well since I expected something killer :(
Yeah, turned out a better than expected, but nothing special. Their first 3 releases are just too good to top.

Just out of curiosity, is everyone's favorite Mastodon album Remission?

I hold that one and Crack the Skye in very high regard, but I dont think they have a bad release, every album is good. Whats the Metal-Gaf consensus on best Mastodon?

Yeah Remission is my favorite, with Leviathan and Crack The Skye very close behind. Blood Mountain is great but not all of it unlike those other three which are great from start to finish. The Hunter is utter poppy shit, the lyrics are stupid and horrible and the songs from it are so boring live. I have a huge stick up my ass when it comes to that album and I can't understand how anyone can like it, especially if they had heard the earlier albums before it was released. Lol I mad

Just listened to the new Amon Amarth.

Its just what you'd expect from them, and its glorious! I personally prefer some of the riffs off this album than their previous.

Yeah, Amon Amarth is Amon Amarth....they won't change. They're the Slayer of viking death metal. Just as long as they don't go Diabolus in Musica on us.

Typically everything about modern hip hop turns me off though....and there are a few songs on Yeezus that turn me off but most of it is good.

MetalGaf, I'm scared....I think I like the new Kanye West album. It's like dark industrial hip hop....but by Kanye West.

If it makes you feel better here is a little known secret about me:

I like a lot of 2Pac's music. Even though I can't relate to 99.9% of it in any way, shape, or form.

Want to hear something blasphemous? I have a playlist called Slayer & Garfunkel.

You guys should try it!

Neither of these are bad things actually.

I can probably one-up both of them actually. I have most of Jimmy Buffett's albums.

Guys.. I got an.. guys... guys listen... I got an idea. What if there was a band that combined metal AND hip hop? Anyone want to get in on the ground floor here? The potential is limitless.

I was over that 13 years ago at least. Even Fred Durst is over that.

Thanks for this, good stuff. Very excited!

I need some new black metal if anyone has any recs.

From the last year(ish) my top 3 black metal albums are:
Anaal Nathrakh - Vanitas
Deathspell Omega - Drought
Marduk - Serpent Sermon

SO HAPPY there's finally anew Gorguts coming soon. Sign a brother up.

Should we post our worst guilty pleasure bands? (metal or non metal)

Mine definitely has to be Orgy, I love their first record but they are so fucking embarrassing to watch. I don't know, they are like sort of a nu metal depeche mode, band that I always loved and at that time I was still a bit into bands like deftones, korn and so on so it sort of made sense for me to like it but.... yeah, kind of ddifficult to admit in public lol

Here is their blue Monday cover video which might be the most cringe worthy video ever but still I think it's a great cover lol

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJZTfl3DmCU&feature=youtube_gdata_player

OK, now you can point your fingers at me and laugh.

Now I'm interested. I quite like hip hop on its own, it'd say it my favourite after metal. Mixing hip hop it with noise/metal/industrial can yield some interesting things:

Techno Animal (w Justin Broadrick) http://youtu.be/_czrpe-0mG0
Dälek (on Mike Pattons label) http://youtu.be/zysrjSnWvQg

And the other way around, Songs of Love and Hate & Us and Them Godflesh.

liking multiple things is a pro, not a con.

besides lil ugly mane is metal as fuck

Neat. Got any recommendations for certain releases for this artist?

Reminds me of another post in a metal thread:

"You know, I have this strange parody of the old Reese's Peanut Butter Cups ads running through my mind.

A hip hop fan walks along the street bopping to the latest rap tune blaring from his retro ghetto blaster. He comes to a stop at the street corner, where some long-haired dude is blasting Pantera on his car stereo. Both glare at each other.

Hip hop dude: Your metal is messing up MY RAP!

Metal dude: Your rap is ruining MY METAL!

Hip hop dude: Hey, it sounds pretty good!

Metal dude: Cha! What-ever! Asshole.

Just behind them, the soon-to-be lead singer of Korn is listening and thinking, "Hey, not bad."

And then a whole long debate was born to be hashed out years later in metal forums ;-)"

My highlight from last year:
Mgła - With Hearts Toward None http://youtu.be/wHfUsIm0z28
Deathspell Omega - Drought http://youtu.be/JgED7nXlxZE
Lunar Aurora - Hoagascht http://youtu.be/hvJhTuPt_UM

This year has some fine BM on the horizon. New Nokturnal Mortum, Darkspace, The Ruins of Beverast and Negură Bunget.

Just remember it's by Kanye West, and not some young unknown artist who might be going completely into left field and your expectations should be set appropriately. It is very different though.

Goldfrapp. She's badass.

I think my truest guilty pleasure is Duran Duran's first two albums. Those bass lines were fucking amazing. Flock of Seagulls s/t was nearly flawless as well, really under appreciated outside of their famous song "I Ran (So Far Away)".

I also love everything Kool Keith does, especially Dr. Octagon.

Rage Against The Machine did it well.

I have their first two albums. Their songs are very formulaic, but yes, they're a guilty pleasure.

My guilty pleasures are electronica (mostly trance and dubstep) and off the wall, technical mellow stuff.

mista thug isolation is his best release. he has 2 other compilations, criminal hypnosis and playaz circle. criminal hypnosis has some songs that were put on mti, but a few weren't. playaz circle is okay, but you can kind of tell he's still refinining his sound on it. in mti i believe it's where he finally gets his sound nailed.

back to metal. that gorguts song was better than i thought it would be. looking forward to hearing the rest.

My current guilty pleasure is "Polish Nght Music" - David Lynch and Marek Zebrowski, darker and bleaker than any metal I have ever heard. I listen to it every night to settle down. Darkest album I have ever heard.

My all time guilty pleasure is Kate Bush. She rules - "50 words for snow" is an amazing dark spellbinding fantasy snow world I love to visit.

Kate Bush? I don't think you know what guilty pleasure means.
