Alright, guys, do you have any Black Metal Albums that are similar to the likes of Far Away from the Sun from Sacramentum? I think that type of Black Metal is my personal preference, instead of the more Lo-Fi Black Metal typically exemplified by the likes of Darkthrone.

well besides Dissection's first two albums, there arent that many that are just as good.

Dawn - Slaughtersun is pretty decent.
Enslaved - Frost is awesome.

Unanimated's "Ancient God of Evil" and Necrophobic's "Nocturnal Silence" are both way more on the death metal side, but does have it's moments that can be mistaken for Dissection.

Whatever works for me, honestly, ha. I'll give those songs a whirl. I'm digging that Sacramentum album, that comes close to the Emperor sound for me.

It's evil and black metalish, but you can actually read the name.

Here's a taster from the upcoming album of Finnish avantgarde black metal band Oranssi Pazuzu.

http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/15942-oranssi-pazuzu-olen-aukaissut-uuden-silman/
What happens when black metal, psychedelia, and space rock collide in a Finnish rehearsal room rented by a dude whose last band bore the descriptor “surrealistic rock” proudly? You get Oranssi Pazuzu-- and thank your lucky stars you did, because these Scandinavian oddballs are sending black metal’s sacred cows to the slaughterhouse and boogying home with bloody hands and big ol’ grins.

Due out in the U.S. on October 15 via 20 Buck Spin and October 11 via Svart, the band's third LP Valonielu offers six tracks’ worth of mind-bending psych-black metal overdrive. “Olen Aukaissut Uuden Silmän” starts off with a flurry of chords that come piled high with distortion and a disembodied choir of keyboard swells. Vocalist/guitarist Jun-His provides his charred croak to a song that grows stranger by the second. Warped echoes of new wave and even, curiously, a splash of surf rock shimmy through a vortex of prime-time black metal and psychedelic space, answering the immortal question of what a Darkthrone/New Order mashup would sound like. Add in the tiniest bit of Hawkwind to keep it weird, and Oranssi Pazuzu have completed one hell of a bizarre love triangle.
“Olen Aukaissut Uuden Silmän” = I've opened a new eye

Obituary's logo heh... bloody blades are classic.

Enslaved's old logo was rad. And as far as their place in metal and their influence... they couldn't possibly be more influential due to the how formative metal was when Celtic Frost and Venom were in their prime.

Neat, another album to look forward to

So, do you kids like Ruins of Beverast?

I really dig Unlock the Shrine and Foulest Semen of A Sheltered Elite. I can't get into Rain Upon the Impure. He's supposed to release an album this year, I'm looking forward to it

And speaking of Black Metal, can some recommend some more modern bands? I've been listening to old Emperor, Mayhem, Darkthrone, etc.. but don't really know any modern ones. Watain is the only current one I know and I dig them.

What sort of sub style of BM are you looking for? Raw, Atmospheric, Melodic, Pagan?

A few i've enjoyed in the last year or so are Deafheaven, Deathspell Omega, Fell Voices, Mgla, Ash Borer, A Forest of Stars, Panopticon, Agrypnie, Altar of Plagues and Krallice.

Thanks for those. As for type, I'd say I enjoy both atmospheric and raw styles. I love old Dark Funeral, Satyricon, Mayhem, Emperor and early Dimmu Borgir, but I also enjoy Carpathian Forest which seems more atmospheric to me.

Try Aosoth, Abazagorath, Taake, Katechon, or Hæthen (from PA)

Some of my favourite BM bands from the last decade

Deathspell Omega released imo the best BM album of the 00s, Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice, and is still putting great material, though their output after SMRC is more experimental.
Negura Bunget: atmospheric black metal with Romanian folk elements, start with OM
Nokturnal Mortum The Voice of Steel, brilliant mix of black/folk with some atmospheric/progessive elements
Shining: IV and V are amazing pieces of depressive, yet rocking black metal
Wolves in the Throne Room: The pinnacle of black metal flirting with post-rock and shoegaze. http://youtu.be/rLfLBbSg_Cc

Just listened to Reign in Blood a few times through. I honestly think people overrate this one. I mean, the first and last tracks are solid and Jesus Saves and Postmortem have good riffs in the beginning. It seems like everything else is just forgettable. The aggression and technical chops are definitely there -- I'm just not feeling it.

Most of the album are just fillers. I'll listen to it when i need a punch to the face, but it's my least favorite album from them during the golden period. I prefer Hell Awaits for my Slayer fix.

I tried listening to Hell Awaits, but I thought it was really boring. Couldn't finish it. I just didn't think the riffs were good I guess.

I do agree that Reign In Blood has some filler tracks, but it generally has good riffs.

Personally, Seasons In The Abyss is the ultimate Slayer album IMO.

It's a great album, but I do feel it does kind of pale in comparison to the prime works of Kreator, Dark Angel, Vio-Lence, Morbid Saint, and Sodom, for one. I also think that South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss are much better Slayer albums as well.
